We bow down to them with gratitude– We have a splendid Group of teachers – right from RotariansDamanjit, Sumana, Ananthalakshmi, Mehek, Yogeeta, Shubhra and more .who have put for the cause of their vocation and gave an abundance and plenty to our Club to rejoice and work wonders with our themes at Interactors and Rotractors and the mega District Projects like Udaan . Thanks for being teachers always. RCMJ and family always wishes a Very Happy and Proud “ Teachers Month” to all teachers in our RCMJ family.. That says it all. Our installations for our key Interact and Rotaract Clubs continued this month. Our Youth team , led by Teachers of present and yesteryears have shown a pathway just sublime… kept a busy month as always.. .Our Ganpati festival at some of our club members homes made the divine bliss to come forward. We are blessed with all humility from the family of RCMJ, who make the Ganpati ethos at home for the blessings of all.And then came our most prestigious Project” Udaan” the “Interact District Conference” , we are humbled by the dedication , work and planning of the youth team led by Rtn Sumana and team consisting of Rtn- Ananthalakshmi, Varsha , Indu and mentors Rtn Piyush and Rtn Amarjit…

We never saw a complete RCMJ family coming to the best of the meetings often….. but here they came, they mingled , they felt blessed , they felt the fellowship……. We have no words of Thanks .. but only our humility and gratitude to the family of Rtn. Sunil and Rtn. Sumana Menon , who hosted this on their own. The Onam Sadhya is become a part and feature of our Club and always has been managed or hosted by this benevolent family.Three Cheers to them and all who participated.. What is “ Rotary” , we often ponder!… This is the spirit of service , dedication and fellowships by Rotarians, for Rotarian’s ; and of Rotarians - “par excellence” in our Club… and every Rotarian member and family here enjoys the warm blanket of this Club.. We are blessed surely..All of us must have realised , we did not even had to take an “ official meeting “ at “ The Club “ till now.. but the month was already filled with a great bonhomie and bliss!!and RCMJ just made waves across. That’s all about Rotary! I believe!

Before we could end this month – a mega opportunity to host RI President Elect of2025-26- Rtn. Mario Cesar Martins, with RI Director , our own Rtn. We as the only Host Club did a splendid work to have this Internationally acknowledged event a super cracking success. We were bestowed with this responsibility with faith and confidence of the District Governor. Many thinks to Convenor Rtn. Piyush, Co Convenor Rtn. THE STORY OF THE ROTARY

EMBLEM

The Rotary gearwheel is one of the most familiar symbols in the world today. A Wagon Wheel was used as suggested by Paul Harris, who reasoned that it symbolized civilization and movement. The appearance changed from time to time, depending on the engravings the club printer had in stock. Motague Bear, an engraver suggested plain buggy wheel but members rejected for it to be a “lifeless and meaningless.” Monty added clouds and dust ahead and behind the wheel and added “Rotary club”, but the clouds were objected to and were removed and for few years the design remained the Emblem for Chicago club. It was in the Portland convention in 1911, Secretary of National Association Ches Perry had first mooted the idea of having a standard emblem.

It was in the 1912 convention the committee was setup, which quickly came out with an emblem that was a copy of Philadelphia Rotary Club’s Emblem. The eagle and “Trade Follows the Flag” was removed from the design and the name of the club was replaced with “Rotary International” as the name “International Association of Rotary Clubs”Was too big to fit in a small lapel pin. In spite of official acceptance, the clubs still followed their own versions some having 8 spokes while others having 10 or 20 spokes. The Gearwheel remained an object of some contention. Some people did not like the idea of having 19 cogs to cogwheel and the disproportionate size of teeth, which they thought to be an insult to engineering. The disgruntled engineer Oscar Bjorge who was recovering in the hospital, sketched out wheels with six spokes (some say emblematic of six Rotary objects that time) and 24 teeth. He then added a Keyway which locks the wheel to hub thus making it a “worker and not idler.” In 1928 Bjorge’s exact specifications were written in manual of procedures and approved by 1929 Dallas convention. Rotary’s emblem has remained unchanged ever since.

SPIT Rotract Installation

Event Overview On the 19th of September, the Rotaract Club of Sardar Patel Institute of Technology hosted its 13th installation ceremony from 6:00 PM onwards in Room No. 008 at the SPIT campus. The event celebrated the installation of the incoming committee, led by President RTR Jai Shah, and acknowledged the outgoing committee under RTR Sujal Chordia. Distinguished officials from Rotary of Mumbai Juhu were invited to grace the occasion, alongside the presence of the Zonal Rotaract Representative (ZRR) and District Rotaract Representative (DRR).

Aim The primary objective of the installation ceremony was to formally induct the new committee members and thank the outgoing committee for their dedicated service. The event aimed to facilitate a smooth transition of responsibilities, celebrate the achievements of the past year, and set new goals for the future of the club. It also provided an opportunity to connect with senior Rotaract officials and reinforce the club’s alignment with the larger Rotary mission. Process and Execution The event began with a formal welcome to the esteemed guests and officials, followed by a speech by the outgoing President, RTR Sujal Chordia, who highlighted the achievements of the past year and expressed gratitude to his team for their hard work. Each member of the outgoing committee was felicitated with certificates in recognition of their contribution. Next, the incoming President, RTR Jai Shah, and his committee were introduced. The ceremonial handing over of the office from the outgoing to the incoming committee took place, symbolising the official transition of leadership.

Impact Analysis The installation ceremony was a great success, strengthening the bond among Rotaractors and inspiring both the new and existing members. The presence of officials from the Rotary of Mumbai Juhu, ZRR, and DRR lent prestige to the event and reinforced the club’s connection to the broader Rotary International network. Udaan -The District Interact Conference of RID3141, A Flagship event of Rotary Club of Mumbai Juhu, was held at Deenanath MangeshkarHall Vile Parle East on 20 September 2024.

President Subhashish Mazumdar and Youth Director Sumana Menon led from the front, ably supported by all other members of the club including the youth team. Two decades is a huge milestone! That, combined with the club’s turning 25 -it was time to change. After a series of brain storming, it was decided that Udaan should now evolve to include many more activities in different forms to involve the Interact clubs.

District Governor Chetan Desai, the chief guest, delivered an inspiring address. The Keynote speaker Dr Anjana Vinod mesmerized the audience with her talk ‘Dare to Dream and Achieve It’ . The District Co -ordinator Youth Rtn Piyush Shah and his team members Rtn Hima Dalal and Rtn Anand Ramnani made an impression presenting the inbound RYE students-kindling many a young mind.Avenue ChairRtn Pankaj Phatharphod also graced the occassion

This prestigious event saw enthusiastic participation from 23 schools of District 3141 around 550 students, along with the dedicated support of 44 volunteers from Valia College Rotaract club.

Approximately 15 Rotarians from various clubs and 23 members of RCMJ were present, lending their support and guidance to the event. Pictures speak louder than words! The fellowship and bonhomie was an experience unparalleled by anything but the warmth of our hosts Sumana & Sunil Menon.

Special lucky draw prize to Pres Subhashish, Best dressed Female to Ruchi Sehgal, Best dressed male to Piyush Shah, the Sadhya itself on your palate-the childlike excitement surrounding all this-words can’t do justice to describe. The day began with making of the ‘Pookalam’-the floral design outside and inside the house. Combined with the traditional decor of the house-it set the correct vibe for a traditional Kerala Onam Celebration. Modern photo booths cant compete!! Onam ,though a Hindu Festival-it belongs to everyone, across religions-for it only celebrates the return of a mighty benevelont leader to visit his people. This today has become a Pan India celebration-especially at RCMJ where everyone indulges in a little bit of ‘dressing up’ and savour the delicacies of Kerala food!

A Magical Evening

An opportunity to play host to the Rotary International President Elect-an opportunity not to be missed. With less than a fortnights notice is when Rtn Piyush got this call. Taking the President into confidence, despite the Presidents unavailability ,the challenge was taken up. The excitement, enthusiasm and effort culminated in what was truly ‘A Magical Evening’

Rtn Piyush Shah was the convener of the event, Rtn Sunil Menon was the co -convener.

Rtn Amarjit Singh Sabherwal was the overseer and Vice-president Rtn John Joseph stood in place of the President, who was present over video and through messages-heart and soul at function while transitting through Singapore.

Rotary Club of Mumbai Juhu added a special touch to the ambience with some little additions to the decor with flower rangoli, welcoming diyas at the entrance and a traditional ‘Lighting Of the Lamp’,recognising veteran Rotarians with roses- to give our Chief Guest Rtn Mario Cesar Martin de Camargo a warm Indian welcome.

District Governor Chetan Desai presented RID3141 s performance of 85 days.He spoke of the challenges and plans for the future

RI Director Rtn T N Subramanian spoke on the need to focus on membership and the committment desired in a Rotarian.

The Chief Guest Rtn Mario Cesar had a very light hearted talk, full of humour-supported by data(for he is a great lover of numbers)..

He minced no words when he emphasised on the need to increase qualitative membership, the need to shun stagnancy under the garb of stability. He advocated for change and questioned ‘continuity’ in the Rotary context where change is the constant

The underlying emphasis to shed ego trips and collaborate with all rotarians across years, clubs and countries was his clarion call. The Magic was in his style, wher he effortlessly connected with the audience, leaving people surprised at how quickly the evening came to a close.

RIPE Mario Cesar was felicitated by DG Chetan Desai.RI director Rtn T N Subramnaian and DG Chetan Desai aand

DGE Dr Manish Motwani were felicitated by RC Mumbai Juhu.RC Mumbai Juhus efforts were highly appreciated and the DG presented a boquet to the Vice President and all the members.

As the floor opened for cocktails and dinner, the menu specially curated to suit the palate of the chief guest as well as all other guests, was enjoyed along with fervent fellowship

The evening was studded with the presence of 14 PDGs from the COG , 2 AKS,several District leaders from RID3141 and 3142 and many PEs from 3141,for whom this was a golden opportunity. A special mention has to be made of the chief guest’s spirit as he charmingly posed for the endless requests of photos.TEam RCMJ-Together we can and together we shall.Congratulations on a wonderfully hosted District Event.
