Prior to 1907, Rotary continued well on the conceptualized theme of Business Reciprocity and Fellowship. Members realized that fellowship and business networking alone would not sustain the organization for a long time. They felt the need to reach higher, altruistic goals. Largely because the members wanted to give something back to the community and make it a better place and partly due to the scattered reports from the press criticizing Rotarians for their selfish motives came the third object of Rotary. Drafted by Rtn Donald M. Carter who came to be known as the father of community service, the third objective was the advancement of the best interest of Chicago and the spreading of the spirit of civic pride and loyalty among its citizens. This was a pivotal moment in Rotary’s history. Men who ran banks, law firms and insurance companies were soon building comfort stations, helping disadvantaged children and providing packaged food to poor tenement dwellers. In 1907, Rotarian Dr Clark W Hawley spoke at a club meeting about a preacher who lived near Joliet, Illinois, 30 miles from Chicago. The man’s horse had died, and because he was too poor to buy another one, he was unable to make the rounds of his country churches and parishioners. The club responded quickly and within two weeks bought the preacher a new horse. This simple, spontaneous act of generosity was Rotary’s first community service. Club leaders took note of how motivated the members were to help and began looking for other such opportunities. The Rotary’s major first community service project was building Public lavatory also known as comfort station in downtown Chicago. The Rotary club was now registered as non-profit organization with more than 140 members.

One fine day in 1999, I received a call from a batch mate of Jamnalal Bajaj Institute, Ralph Menon introducing me to world of Rotary. He gave a small brief and invited us to attend a weekly meeting. After a couple of such meetings, I was tempted to join the newly-being-formed Rotary Club and thus became a Charter member of Rotary Club of Mumbai Juhu. After attending a few meetings, we were not able to gel with the members as they were majorly from a particular lingual community and would informally converse in their language. My Rotary journey again came on the family drawing board for a review. Both of us being originally nonMumbaikars and not having many non-Air India friends, we thought this as an opportunity to make new and diverse friends – so we decided to continue with RCMJ. In RY 2000-01, I was appointed as a Club Director with not much Rotary knowledge – so obviously no contribution. Albeit, year was invested in learning ropes while gaining the knowledge and confidence. Year 2001-02 saw me as a Club Treasurer under the Presidentship of Rtn. Suresh Advani and my learning of finances was aided by Rtn. Mukesh Trivedi who was our CA-member. Year 2002-03 gave me a higher responsibility of being the Club Secretary with Rtn. Dr Shubhangi Dhage as President. We had a great working relation and saw me gaining the all-round knowledge and intricacies of the Rotary world.
In December 2002, the then Nominating Committee selected me to be the President for the RY 2004-05. I utilized the RY 2003-04 as President-elect to get the required training and feel to take over as President in RY 200405.
As President during the Centennial Year of Rotary International, club achieved following major milestones and laid the foundation for a betterknown Rotary Club of Dist 3140:
Chartered Interact Club of Maneckji Cooper with 328 members –largest in Asia. Charter presentation at Rotary Service Centre, Juhu;
Created the first Endowment Fund of Dist 3140 with contribution of $25,000 by Rtns. Guru & Deepshikha Srivastava; and Created Neo-Natal ICU at VN Desai Municipal Hospital as Centennial Project with entire funding of Rs 18 lakhs provided by Rtn. Guru Srivastava.
In appreciation of the work done during the year, club received 4 trophies and 2 certificates at the hands of the DG. The year had two hiccups. One –I developed dengue in August and was out of action for almost 3 months. Charter presentation of Interact Club of Maneckji Cooper had me on the dais with 104 temp. My better-half filled-in my presence wherever I needed to be as President at the District level projects. Entire Rotary Service Week, club participating in some activity or the other every day, was handled completely by Rtn. Damanjit Kaur. Second – Club Secretary Ashish had some business exigencies and was not available for almost six months. But as they say – show must go on and we overcame all the challenges. During the year as President, I observed that the Trust was opaque to the President and the Club. Board during the year decided to suggest changes to the Trust governance to have IPP, President and PE as rotating Trustees. The then trustees resisted the same and in 2005-06, while Rtn. Deepshikha Srivastava was the President, our persistence led to mass resignation of members aligned to the then Trustees and our club membership came down to 22 from 56.
Taking the challenge, we decided to rebuild our club. Since 2005-06 was spent in struggle, club decided to give Rtn. Deepshikha another year as President for 2006-07 and to provide support, I took charge as Club Secretary.
In RY 2008-09, I was appointed as Asst. Gnovernor under the leadership of DG Bansi Dhurandhar with 8 clubs assigned to me. This tenure gave me a great opportunity to widen my horizon of Rotary knowledge at the higher level as well as the functioning at club level in other clubs. During the year, I ventured into elections to the Nominating Committee for the selection of DG 2012-13 but was unsuccessful.
In RY 2009-10, under the leadership of DG Raju Subramanian, I was appointed as GSE Chair and oversaw the exchange of two GSE teams, the only time for our Dist. Again I tried at the elections to the Nominating Committee and was overwhelmingly declared winner with more that 80% vot
While Asst. Trainer during 2010-11 under Dr Jayant Kulkarni, also represented our Dist. as GSE Team Leader to Dist. 1910 (Austria, Slovenia and Czech Republic), a competitive selection.
Rising in the Dist. leadership, I was appointed as Dist. Secretary in 2013-14 under the leadership of DG Lata Subraidu. I was responsible in overseeing the functioning of 22 clubs including Rotary Club of Bombay. Besides, I was responsible for the Dist. Publications during the year and worked diligently in timely publication of Dist. Directory and all the 12 issues of GML. A unique responsibility came my way when DG gave me the administrative responsibility of ensuring the bifurcation of our Dist. 3140 into D3141 and D3142.
Continued to hold senior Dist. positions from 2008-09 till date and have satisfactorily assisted all DGs in whatever responsibility was assigned to and never forgetting to ably contribute at the club level always.

The interacts of HMPS conducted Tree Plantation in the school campus on Thursday 25th July 2024. The office bearers and other . active participants planted saplings of various varieties under the able leadership of mentor - Ms. Kajal Tiwari, senior staff members Mrs. Mitali Mehta, Mrs. Arti Sharma and Principal Mr. S. Govindharajan. The students pledged their dedication to continue this campaign in future too.

Nai Disha
Caring for a Better World
Mission Statement
A step towards humanity
At Nai Disha, our mission is to extend a helping hand to those in need, fostering a sense of humanity and compassion in every step we take. We believe in making a tangible difference in the lives of the less privileged through dedicated efforts and community support.

Vision Statement
Uplifting the less privileged
Our vision is to create a world where everyone has the opportunity to live with dignity and hope. We strive to uplift the less privileged by providing essential resources and support, enabling them to lead better lives.
Nai Disha was born out of compassion in 2005, following the catastrophic floods on July 26, 2005. Our journey began with the distribution of clothes and grain to flood victims. Over the years, we have expanded our scope, continuously finding new ways to assist those in need.
Designing a tour itinerary is a lot like completing a puzzle. But it’s fun. In fact, we find this part most exciting; and excitement starts from planning. The vicarious joy of self-planning is the beauty of the travel journey in advance and it might take a little longer than you thought when you initially set out, and there’s no one way to design a tour. It gives you liberty to plan according to your interests and also gives you a lot of freedom and flexibility.
Planning a tour itinerary involves many steps to ensure a smooth and enjoyable trip. A well-crafted tour itinerary provides you with clear expectations, ensuring that you make the most of your time during the tour. Here's how we plan our trips. We do extensive research at all steps.

Choosing the Destination(s) is the first step and requires some brain storming by both of us. We usually research, look into potential destinations that align with our interests based on the time of vacation and number of days available. We also check the best time to visit that destination, considering mainly the weather. And last but not the least, we decide how long we can spend on the trip, how many cities and locations we can cover. Next step is to finalise the places – cities/ countries we want to visit during that particular trip I research, we argue and usually I win (anything new? )
We create a detailed Itinerary Document, which is usually a Google Sheet with all the information The best part is with technology enabled Google sheet, once it is shared, then we both can go on updating and if there is a debate not to change anything in a particular sheet, additional worksheet in same Google sheet is added then lots of research and inputs on various aspects of the tour – right from travel schedule, l
ocations, day wise /hour wise plans, mode of transports, tickets booked and to be booked and the costing and budgeting – all is there handy . Use Excel formulae to capture continuous changes in various costings!!
Most of the research is done by me and the bookings by Subhashish, be it Flight bookings/ hotel booking/ local travel/ entry for local attractions.
Then we start looking for accommodations, which essentially have to be places close to the attractions we plan to visit (even if it’s more expensive is a very good idea) or near the closest public central transport system. Having some grocery stores and cafes/ restaurants is also a point to keep in mind.
Through various websites and reading a lot of reviews helps zero in on accommodation. Then we create a Day-by-Day Schedule of our trip, which includes travel time, check- in/check-out times, Time Management to do justice to the itinerary and ensure that it is followed as far as possible We book tickets for popular attractions, tours, and well in activities in advance to avoid disappointments and save time later. Visa for countries like Europe, Australia, USA should be done well in advance with a calculation of getting the Visa may be a month or two ahead! International Travelling is globally increasing and many Visas are becoming online. It’s important that we manage our visa ourselves, instead of any agency, especially for tourism. That saves time and also we found no errors and no delays ever
We have two permanent check lists, one of Essentials which are not based on place of visit and another we make based on the destination. The other is of medicines. (If travelling in India, the list of medicines is not as exhaustive.) The element of mode of transport becomes very important , depending on the fitness , passion and energy. We plan precisely, where we will take private Taxis and where we will manage with good public transport (especially in Europe), which helps to optimise time frames and day wise plans. Few days before the trip, Insurance is bought which covers travel insurance, medical emergencies, trip cancellations and lost baggage. We always carry a hard and soft copy of Travel documents (Passport/ Aadhaar card/ Tickets/ Entry Tickets All this planning is done on most days, after dinner over a cup of hot coffee, courtesy Subhashish and believe me, this gives so much of kick and satisfaction, of having done the entire travel itinerary on “our own” without any external help.

Through misted glass, a fragile sprout, Emerging green, so pure and stout. In droplets clung, a story told, Of life and light, of new and old.
Each leaf a promise, fresh and bright, Against the grey, a burst of light. Nature’s tender, whispered plea, To pause, to look, and simply see.
In fleeting moments, beauty grows, Through rain and fog, it softly shows.
A tender leaf, a gentle sign, Of life’s enduring, quiet design.

A Memorable Day at the 1st Vibrant Rainy Picnic

Our first Vibrant Rainy Picnic of the Silver Jubilee year of Rotary...kickstarted at U RiverGate in Karjat and was a weekend getaway to remember.
The day was meticulously planned, with everyone contributing to the choice of games, activities, and the picnic spread. Despite some colleagues arriving at different times due to work commitments, the spirit of the day remained high.
The scenic location and the camaraderie among the team set the perfect tone for the event.
The games we played were not just fun and competitive; they also had meaningful lessons. Through a thoughtful debrief, we learned about the importance of collaboration, bonding and appreciation like two sides of the same coin. This understanding brought us closer, as did our diverse backgrounds, which added richness to our interactions and helped us bond in new ways.

The highlight of the day was discovering hidden talents among our friends. We were delighted by impromptu performances from the singers in our group, making the atmosphere even more vibrant. The day concluded with a lively game of housie, where everyone walked away with gifts, adding a festive touch to the evening. Though it was just one night, it felt like we had spent days together, building friendships and creating lasting memories. As we wrapped up, the unanimous sentiment was clear: we look forward to more such memorable experiences. #TeamSpirit #FriendshipGoals #WeekendGetaway #CollaborationAndAppreciation #UnforgettableMemories #RotaryJuhu
