Please note that full-day kindergarten has been selected for all current preschool students. If, after consultation with your preschool teac her, a different selection is made, the Lower School will advise the Business Office and tuition will be adjusted accordingly.

Dear Breck Parents:
I want to provide you with some important fina ncial information for the 2018-2019 school year.
Enrollment Deposit
A non-refundable deposit of $1,000 is required to enroll your student in Breck School for the 2018-2019 school year. The enrollment deposit is reduced to $100 for students who qualify for Financial Assistance. The deposit will be applied as a credit against the final tuition billing.
Tuition Payment Options
Breck offers payment flexibility by providing three different payment plan option s. Carefully consider the three different options before making your irrevocable payment election on the Enrollment and Tuition Contract.
• Annual payment — The full tuition is billed on May 31, 2018, and payment is due on June 30, 2018.
• Semi-annual payments — 60% of tuition is billed on May 31, 2018, and payment is due on June 30, 2018; 40% of tuition is billed on Novemb er 30, 2018, and is due on December 31, 2018.
• 10-month payment plan — The annual tuition cost is billed in ten equal monthly installments beginning in May 2018 and ending in February 2019. Payments are due on the last day of the month beginning in June 2018 and ending in March 2019. A one-time administrative fee of $175 per student will be billed in May 2018.
In addition to the above payment options, a brochure with information on an outside educationfinancing program is posted online (https://yourtuitionsolution.com/family#about-the-program). Your Tuition SolutionSM offers fixed rate private school education loans with terms up to 84 months. This plan is offered as an alternative to accommodate your individual financing needs. Breck School has no financial interest in and derives no financial benefit from this offering. It is also recommended to review with your tax advisor the provisions of the recent tax reform le gislation related to 529 college savings plans — those plans might now be available to help pay for an independent school education from elementary school onward. Once again, please check with your tax advisor.
It is the policy of Breck School that tuition must be paid in full, as billed. Student enrollment may be suspended or withdrawn for past due accounts.
Tuition Protection Program
Participation in the Breck Tuition Protection Program is required. The cost of the program is included in the annual tuition. Information about this program can be found on page 9 of this document.
Separately Billed Fees
● Parents Association Fee. Each family will be billed $ 50 in May 2018 fo r membership in the Breck Parents Association.
● Technology Fee. Breck School provides a school-owned laptop computer to all students in grades 4-12. The mandatory Technology Fee for 2018-2019 is $300 and will be billed in May 2018. The policies governing acceptable use and additional charges for lost, stolen or damaged laptops are explained in Breck’s Acceptable Use Policy and Financial Obligation Agreement. Parents and students will be required to sign both policies prior to receiving their laptop at the beginning of the school year.
● Transportation. Transportation costs/fees will be communicated in August 2018 following the enrollment process when the number of students utilizing the service is known. Families will have the option of a one-time annual fee that is billed in September 2018, or monthly billing that will begin in September 2018 and end in May 2019.
Other Charges
Please consider additional charges for such items as Extended Day, transportation, athletic supplies and equipment, books and supplies, tutors, weekend class trips, etc., when estimating your budget for the school year.
Annual Support
We ask every family to participate in the tradition of making a tax-deductible gift each year. Donations to the Annual Fund cover the di fference between tuition and expenses and enhance the educational experience for all Breck students. The Annual Fund, together with our Blue & Gold Bash, and income from the endowment and auxiliary services, closes the gap. Every gift is appreciated!

Dear Breck Families:
As we begin planning for the 2018-2019, I want to remind you that immunization and physical examination forms are due to the Health Center by August 1, 2018, or earlier for some fall sport participants. By Minnesota state law, students ca nnot attend school until all documentation is complete and submitted.
An immunization form is enclos ed for each student new to Breck School. Current students whose vaccinations are not up-to-date will receive an immunization form in a separate mailing. There are vaccine requirements for students entering kindergarten and grade 7.
If receiving immunizations is contrary to your conscientiously held beliefs, please return your signed, notarized statement (with specific vaccines listed) on the form to the Health Center by the August 1 deadline.
A physical examination form is enclosed if your child is new to Breck School or if a current form is not on file in the Health Center. Please be certain that it is completed, signed and dated by the healthcare provider and returned by August 1 or sooner if your student is participating in fall sports. School policy requires a physical examination for ALL students every three years. In addition, Minnesota State High School League regulations require that either the Breck School form or the MSHSL’s Sports Qualifying Physical Examination form be on file in the Health Center before a student in grades 7-12 can practice or participate in any sport. Check with the athletic department for deadline information.
If your child has had a physical examination within the last three years, your physician can simply fill out the form. If not, please make an appoi ntment for an exam as soon as possible.
Forms can be mailed, faxed (763-381-8199) or put in the confidential drop box outside the Breck Health Center.

Dear Breck Families:
I hope you will seriously consider Breck transportation for the 2018-2019 school year. The availability of bus service is important to Breck’s mission, di versity and philosophy, and we are committed to providing the best service at the lowest possible cost. Bus fees are directly related to the number of families using the service — so increased ridership results in lower annual fee increases.
Within our wide coverage area (see the enclosed Transportation brochure), Breck provides:
• morning routes
• afternoon routes depa rting from school at 3:30 PM
• activity routes departing at 5:30 PM for regular student riders st aying after school for academic or extracurricular activities
Drop-offs at locations other than home (such as Lifetime Fitness or MacPhail Center) may be arranged by contacting the Transportation Office and providing written parent or guardian permission at least 24 hours in advance. We also offer infrequent rider and special event service, as explained in our policies (below).
Express pick-up and drop-off locations are available in most suburban areas, allowing more students to be “last on, first off” riders.
When feasible and safe, preschool, kindergarten and first-grade students will be picked up at their residence. Other students may have to walk one or tw o blocks to/from a pick-up/drop-off point. Routes are designed for a maximum riding time of approximately one hour, although distance, traffic and weather conditions may have an adverse effect. To minimize riding time and maximize safety, routes for 2018-2019 will continue to include many corner stops.
Because activity routes cover larger areas with fewer buses, drop-off points are often farther from home than on afternoon routes, requiring longer walks home or parent pick-ups at central locations. It is the parent’s responsibility to be at the central pick-up point at the designated time. Activity buses are available for students in grades 4-12.
Breck will adhere to the following policies:
● Sibling discounts are available for the 2018-2019 school year; first sibling 25%; second sibling 50%; third sibling 75%; four or more siblings 100%.
● Flexible payment options — Breck offers annual or monthly transportation billing. Your irrevocable selection is made on your 2018-2019 Enrollment and Tuition Contract.
● Infrequent riders — Students who do not expect to ride the bus more than 15 times a year can use bus service for $15 each way if parents have notified the Transportation Office by July 1, 2018, and had the student(s) assigned to a route. You can then use Breck bus service in the event of a transportation emergency caused by illness, business travel, etc. Infrequent riders must provide authorization from a parent or guardian to the Transportation Office at least 24 hours in advance.
• Special event service — Non-riding students who would like to ride the bus home with a registered rider for a play-date or a special occasion (such as a birthday party) may use this service for a one-way fee of $7, subject to space availa bility. Special event riders must provide an authorization from a parent or guardian to the Transportation Office at least 24 hours in advance.
• Student driver/parkers — Student driving is a privilege at Breck, and using Breck’s parking facilities implies assumption of certain responsibilities by the driving student, including registering the car with the Transportation Office and demonstrating appropriate driving conduct and behavior. The privilege of driving can be revoked at any time by the Upper School administration. The 2018-2019 parking fee of $550 will be billed on you r September 30, 2018, statement.
● Reimbursements from local school districts — In some cases, local school districts reimburse residents for a portion of Breck transportation fees for K-12 students. Procedures and policies vary greatly by district. In districts that do offer reimbursements, Breck applies for the reimbursement during the fall semester and receives funds during the summer afte r the conclusion of the school year. Breck will provide parents with any forms necessary to qualify for reimbursement. Funds received from the district are applied to the stude nt account on the September 30 statement of the following year.

The Breck Tuition Protection Program
Safeguard your tuition investment in the event of student absence or withdrawal from school. The cost of the Tuition Protection Program is included in the annual tuition fee.
Safeguard your investment in quality education
You are obligating yourself to the full payment of tuition, fees an d other charges for the entire academic year. The School’s objective is to provide quality education for all students, and it must budget its fiscal year based upon the number of students who enroll. Unfort unately, the school cannot fully release you from your obligation for the payment of tuition and other charges, even in the event of an unforeseen absence or withdrawal of your student.
The Tuition Protection Program protects your personal investment in your student’s education. The program provides for the pro-rated refund of annual tuition and other covered fees in the event of an absence or withdrawal for medical reasons or permanent withdrawal for most other personal reasons, including: (a) relocation of family; (b) change of pl an; and (c) dismissal, etc. The program benefits will provide substantial assistance in meeting your financial obligations to the school. The following pages outline the details of the program for you.
Comprehensive coverage for medical absences or withdrawals
The Breck Tuition Protection Program will cover 100% of the pro-rated annual tuition, less a waiting period of ten school days, in the event of absence or withdrawal due to disability resulting from a covered injury or sickness that is certified by and requires regular treatment by a doctor.
Coverage for non-medical withdrawal
Refunds for non-medical withdrawals (excluding in voluntary dismissals for scholastic or disciplinary reasons) will be applied against th e full tuition (regardless of the billing method selected) and any other outstanding charges on the tuition bill as follows:

The Tuition Protection Fund will cover 90% of the annual tuition. The remaining 10% is due at the time of withdrawal.

Th e Tuition Protection Fund will cover 70% of the annual tuition. The remaining 30% is due at the time of withdrawal.
The Tuition Protection fund will cover 60% of the prorated annual tuition. The remaining balance is due at the time of withdrawal.
* Academic student records (including transcripts) will not be releas ed if there is an outstanding balance on the student account.
Approved refunds will be paid within 30 days of a refund request.
Coverage for involuntary dismissals
The Breck Tuition Protection Program will provide a refund of 75% of the pro-rated annual covered fees in the event of an involuntary acad emic or disciplinary dismissal.
Example of pro-rated medical withdrawal refund calculation:
Academic Year: Number of school days = 175
Period of Separation: 11/1 to 6/1
Consecutive days lost: 130
Annual Fees Covered: $28,000
Formula:
(% of benefit) x ([days lost – deductible period]* x Annual fees covered) = Refund Number of school days
Calculation:
(100%) x ([130 – 10 days] x $28,000) = $19,200 175 days
* There is a 10-day waiting period for a medical absence or withdrawal. There is no waiting period for non-medical or involuntary dismissals.
The Breck Tuition Protection Program
Definitions
1. “Sickness” means sickness, disease or treatment that occurs on or after the effective date of a student’s participation in the tuition protection program and from which loss results directly and independently of another cause.
2. “Injury” means bodily injury resulting from an accident that occurs on or after the effective date of a student’s participation in the tuition prog ram and from which loss results directly and independently of any other cause.
3. “Doctor” means a legally qualified physician, acting within the scope of his/her license to provide medical services.
4. “Academic Year” means the actual number of consecutive calendar days, beginning with the first day of classes, excluding orientation, registration and graduation days, but not more than 252. Prorated refunds of covered fees are based on the academic year.
5. “Absence” means while under the care and treatm ent of a doctor and, after satisfaction of the waiting period, being continuously prevented from attending all scheduled classes for a period of time which is less than the balance of the school year.
6. “Withdrawal, medical” means while under th e care and treatment of a doctor and, after satisfaction of the waiting period, being continuously prevented from attending all classes scheduled for the balance of the school year.
7. “Withdrawal, non-medical” means a severance from all classes for the balance of the academic year which is undertaken voluntarily. A non-medical absence that is temporary is not considered to be a withdrawal.
8. “Dismissal” means a severance from all classes for the balance of the academic year, which is at the direction of school authorities due to: (a) scholastic or (b) disciplinary reasons. A temporary suspension is not consider ed to be a dismissal.
9. “Covered fees” — Tuition, Parking Fee and Technology Fee are the only items covered by the Tuition Protection Program. The Tuition Protection Program does not cover other fees.
Exclusions and limitations
Medical absence or withdrawal is not covered if caused by:
1. Declared or undeclared war or any act thereof or service in the armed forces of any country.
2. Participating in a riot.
3. The voluntary use of any drug or narcotic, or an agent that is similarly classed or has similar effects, except those prescribed by a doctor.
Coverage terminates upon the student’s resumption of classes at the school.
Non-Medical Withdrawal or Dismissal is not covered if it is caused by:
1. Unapproved transfer to any school that is located within 40 miles of Breck School.
2 Rebellion, riot, civil commotion, terrorism or declared or undeclared war.
3. Being inducted or drafted in the Armed Forces of any country.
4. Destruction of any school facility due to any cause whatsoever, or the inability of the school to operate and provide formal academic instruction including closure for any reason.
5. Boycotting of classes.
6. Any nuclear reaction, nuclear radiation or radioactive contamination.
Terms of coverage
• Medical Absences or Withdrawals: From the first day through the last day of the academic year.
• Non-Medical Withdrawals or Dismissals: Coverage begins on June 1 and ends on the last day of the academic year.
• Coverage can be affected for the student entering school late by the payment of the premium within the billing guidelines of the school. Medical coverage is then effective with the first day of attendance.
Refunds
It is your responsibility to request a refund. Ref und requests must be submitted in writing to the Business Office no later than 30 days from the date of the student’s separation unless it is not reasonably possible to do so. Refunds are made to the school for application to the student’s account, and any remaining amounts are refunded to the individual who is financially responsible for payment of the student account to the extent payments have been made.
Cost
The cost of the Tuition Protection Program is included in the annual tuition fee.
