Through our new Future new projects have been rural communities

We are committed to putting our residents and businesses at the heart of everything we do. We want to ensure the delivery of services, make better use of space and resources, and future-proof the organisation - enabling us to operate as a modern council. Ultimately, this will make the organisation more efficient and effective while continuing to operate within our established budget.

In 2022 we were in the top 10 UK councils, both district and county, for online accessibility. Not resting on that amazing achievement, we are currently reviewing our website to make it even more user friendly.

As Artificial Intelligence (AI) develops, we are embracing new technology and using Amazon’s Alexa to support resident needing quick information updates, which will work alongside our virtual online assistant Bobbie.

Our Commercial Properties investments continue to bring in excellent revenue streams, ensuring our front-line services are protected and our district council tax is one of the lowest in the UK.

Our Inspiring Communities programme started in 2020 with a £1 million investment over three years to have a positive impact on those affected by Domestic Abuse, County Lines, Mental Health, Social Isolation and Loneliness.

The programme has helped deliver life changing support to thousands of residents, and prevented them requiring crisis support, saving an estimated £1.8m to public services. The programme has seen 250 mental health first aiders trained across Breckland, over £200,000 distributed in community grant funding, funded the Daisy programme to support over 1000 survivors of domestic abuse and helped families with young children needing mental health support.

Future Breckland programme over 50 been identified to help our towns and communities bounce back from the pandemic. project has secured over £250,000 on these projects, with more announcements expected in 2023! We are working with a number of new keen to open up in Breckland, supporting existing businesses looking to grow and thrive. Read more on page 12-13

We have created our 'Breckland 2035' Sustainability Strategy to establish the direction of how we play an active role in mitigating the impact of climate change.

In 2022 we have funded the installation on new EV charging points in Watton and Swaffham, whilst helped reduce our carbon footprint by over 500 tonnes. We have also distributed over £100,000 in green grants across our district to help support local green initiatives and leverage national funding to support local projects. Find out more on page 15.
