BRECKENRIDGE CREATIVE ARTS | BRECKCREATE

Through art, Breckenridge expresses itself as a town like no other, where the simple charms of our surroundings connect the most unlikely of neighbors: hunters to hippies, liberals to libertarians, beer drinkers to cosmic thinkers. Here, everyone has a voice they are encouraged to express. And the melody they create is anything but monotone. BreckCreate drives home the importance of the arts in establishing Breckenridge’s identity. It motivates the sharing of fresh perspectives; it entices those from outside the local community to engage Breckenridge as a creative destination. It promises an evolving experience that reinvigorates the soul with every return visit.

BRECKENRIDGE ARTS DISTRICT The Breckenridge Arts District is the region’s newest epicenter of creativity, bringing together studios, galleries, performance spaces, historic landmarks, public art, restaurants, cafés and other creative businesses that animate and populate a vibrant cultural corridor in downtown Breckenridge. The Arts District’s core attraction is a multi-facility arts campus that hosts workshops, exhibits, artists-in-residence and a variety of other activities for locals and visitors alike. With a focus on educational and experiential enrichment, programs include classes in several media such as textiles, ceramics, metalwork, painting and more. Complete with decorative plazas and sculpture gardens, the Arts District campus serves as a community gathering place and a catalyst for creative expression in Breckenridge. The Breckenridge Arts District is a Colorado-Certified Creative District. Visit breckcreate.org for more information. 24-hour pre-registration required for workshops. All materials included unless otherwise noted. * Space is limited for FREE events; first-come, first-served.

FALL 2017 HAPPENINGS

FALL ISSUE OF /krē’āt/ /krē’āt/ : to make or produce : to cause to exist : to bring into being /krē’āt/ is an online magazine published quarterly by Breckenridge Creative Arts. Each issue profiles a creative individual or business, cultural organization, event and object of art in a thoughtfully curated visual journey that aims to highlight and promote the greater creative community of Breckenridge. Available September 1, our fall issue explores our links to those who came before us—from the ancestors of Día de los Muertos and our local cemetery, to the founders of SPRTV, who connected us to the outside world. It looks at the Lake Dillon Theatre Company, and our place in today’s arts landscape. To read this and previous issues of /krē’āt/, please visit breckcreate.org/publications

BREW: IDEAS + CREATION LAB BRECKENRIDGE THEATER | THU, OCT 19, 5:30-9PM

WITH THE FAMILY & INTERCULTURAL RESOURCE CENTER, MEXICAN CULTURAL CENTER AND TELEMUNDO DENVER FREE | Presented by Breckenridge Creative Arts | breckcreate.org

Topic: Art Within Reach Join us for a film screening from Season 8 of Art21, followed by a moderated discussion on two contemporary Mexican artists. Damián Ortega uses objects from his everyday life— Volkswagen Beetle cars, Day of the Dead posters, locally sourced corn tortillas—to make spectacular sculptures. Pedro Reyes turns guns into musical instruments and transforms existing problems into ideas for a better world. How can art provide community solutions and spark social change? How can specific materials convey meaning? How do these artists engage their communities and how can we do this at home? BREW is a salon series that provides thought-provoking discussion for and among creative professionals with varied topics designed to engage and inspire. Part party, part conversation, the series features local craft beverages. Join us for the entire evening, or drop-in for part of the discussion.
