A crowd of approximately 90 attended the gala with the theme, “A Night Under the

Stars.” The fun-filled event included dinner, an award ceremony and entertainment.

Talented Branson vocalist to debut her own show in 2022

By K.D. MICHAELS, Staff Writer Talented Branson vocalist Georgina Holiday is realizing a career goal this season—headlining her own show. The Georgina Holiday Show begins in April at Branson Star Theater, Home of Nashville Roadhouse Live.

Holiday is no stranger to Branson. She is an integral part of the Mickey Gilley and Johnny Lee Show, performing alongside the country legends, both in Branson and on the road. She is also a mainstay in a couple of other popular Branson shows.

Holiday credits Mickey Gilley for suggesting that she should star in her own show.

“Mickey Gilley and I, along with a group of people, were talking after a show at the Tulsa Hard Rock last year, and he said ‘If anyone deserves to be a star, it’s Georgina,’” said Holiday. “He encouraged me to step out.”

The Georgina Holiday Show will feature a variety of musical styles, offering something for every taste.

“I’ll be singing a couple of songs by Mickey Gilley and Johnny Lee for sure but also songs that were the backdrop to the music of my life” explained Holiday. “So country, country rock, pop, that ‘70s groove feel good music. I’m truly a little bit country and a little bit rock ‘n roll. The tapestry of my life is woven with songs of all genres so I may have a couple of surprises in my show.”

Holiday will be joined on stage by her band of Outlaws— Larry Holiday on guitar and

harmony vocals, Kenny Christensen playing keyboard and singing harmony, Steve Leach performing harmony vocals and playing bass, Doug Clifford on drums, and utility player and harmony vocalist Cole Lee. Holiday’s new show opens on April 25.

“We play on Monday night at 8 p.m.,” said Holiday. “There will be a couple of dark Mondays because I’ll be on the road with Mickey and Johnny, so check with the box office for specific dates.”

SUBMITTED to Branson Globe After more than three years with the City of Branson, City Attorney Chris Lebeck has announced his resignation in order to pursue an exciting opportunity to return to prosecution at the Greene County Prosecuting Attorney’s office in Springfield.

Lebeck started with the City in 2018 where he has served three different mayors, provided legal advice to the board of aldermen and City staff and has served the citizens of Branson as the Municipal Prosecutor for ordinance violations in the City.

“It has been an honor to serve the citizens of Branson as the

City Attorney and City Prosecutor. This was not an easy decision as I will miss the incredible staff that works hard every day to move the city forward for the benefit of the public,” said Lebeck.

Lebeck will be joining the Greene County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office in February as a senior prosecutor in their Special Victim’s Unit.

“I am grateful Chris is returning to Greene County as an assistant prosecuting attorney and look forward to the impact I know he and his experience will bring to the office and our community,” said Greene County

Hollister Elementary’s Henson to retire Branson City Attorney resigns for prosecution position SUBMITTED to Branson Globe Hollister Elementary School Principal, Dr. Nina Henson, has announced that she will retire from educating children at the end of the 2021-2022 school year.

Dr. Henson began her journey with Hollister seven years ago as an assistant principal and has spent the last five years serving as the lead principal of HES. Prior to joining the Hollister family, Dr. Henson taught fourth grade in the Branson School District for six years.

Under her leadership, Hollister Elementary fully implemented the Leader in Me program and kept it a strong focus throughout a pandemic as they empowered kids to set goals

The crisis of human trafficking: Staying vigilant

By CINDY THOMAS, Staff Writer After a special awareness day, month, or event for a particular issue, the average person may not think much about that issue until the next special event rolls around if the issue doesn’t affect them personally. When it comes to human trafficking, however, it’s important to remain vigilant.

In a recent article for the Assemblies of God “AG News,” Dr. Sandra Morgan addressed the importance of January 11, designated by the U.S. Senate in 2007 as National Human Trafficking Awareness Day, and the monthlong focus on prevention encompassed by Anti-Human Trafficking Month in January. She challenged citizens to use information learned during that time to continue proactive steps in their own communities. Dr. Morgan compared the special days to orange traffic cones warning of a hazard ahead, with continued community involvement needed to fix the “pothole” of risk factors instead of allowing them to worsen.

Dr. Morgan spent many years as a nurse with Assemblies of God World Missions, where she became keenly aware of the horrors of trafficking. She now directs the Global Center for Women and Justice at Vanguard University in Costa Mesa, California. The Center works to increase awareness and provide resources, including hosting an annual Ensure Justice Conference.

In the “AG News” article, Dr. Morgan listed some ways communities, individuals, churches and organizations can continue with awareness and prevention: 1. Obtain a Faith-Based and Community Tool Kit from the U.S. Department of Homeland Security’s Blue Campaign (referenced in a previous Globe article about Homeland Security Investigations). The kit materials

recognize church and community leaders as trusted local stakeholders who need to be equipped with resources. Find the kit at https:// www.dhs.gov/sites/default/ files/publications/18_0926_ bc_faith-based-community-toolkit.pdf.

2. Download the Sweat and Toil App. Produced by the U.S. Department of Labor and available on the app store for your mobile phone, this is an excellent way to start learning how everyday habits connect to human trafficking and start discussing the topic with children.

For example, one parent shared that while shopping, she and her daughter looked up the produce they were buying and learned it had been harvested by child labor in Argentina, so they decided to choose locally available produce instead.

3. Listen to survivor stories.

Illegal aliens: Our government treats illegal aliens, over 11 million-plus, as other than lawbreakers, even giving them the benefits of a system that American taxpayers are paying for, such as medical care, education, and even voting in some cases. For what it’s worth, an Ole Seagull believes that the only benefits an illegal alien should receive are those necessary and directly connected with providing the health care, sustenance and travel assistance essential to sending them back where they came from as quickly as possible.

3. On the other hand, legal

4. Unsecure borders: Two above serves in solemn testimony to that fact, but in addition, how many illegal drugs come across the Mexican border each day? Now ten years later, at age 80, he recognizes it even less, and an Ole Seagull wonders if Lincoln’s warning is coming to fruition. For what it matters, here are some of the reasons for his concern: 1. Lack of honesty in leadership: Most of today’s politicians just flat lie and say and do whatever they have to do to get reelected. They are “Poly,” many, and “ticks,” blood-sucking insects. In an Ole Seagull’s mind, they represent just three things taking money from those who have fairly

This being his first experience with a noise of that amplitude, Leo seemed to want to run away from it.

But instead of taking off and hiding

somewhere, he came back toward Jonah—back toward the frightening roar of my Ninja—jumping and whining to be held in the only place he had known real safety—his master’s arms. Jonah quickly scooped up his frightened puppy and held him close; Leo nestled his little head into Jonah’s neck until the blaring noise ended.

I have often found myself in new and terrifying situations that made

me want to run and hide from their deafening roar. But sometimes, fleeing from what threatens your comfort also means fleeing from your purpose. To remove yourself from God’s will is to remove yourself from his arms. Run back—back toward the sound of the rushing waters—back toward Him. Sometimes the safest place you can be is right in the middle of the storm.

Reflections: All kings will die, except one

ecently, faith-based as well as secular news sources have reported our current U.S. President is setting records in popularity polls, and not in a good way. Discussion of whether this is justifiable isn’t the point here, but the news has reminded me that throughout U.S. history, Presidents have been more and less popular. Other nations—same story. With zero exceptions, though,

they’ve had one thing in common: They all died, or they will.

The Old Testament books of Kings and Chronicles describe leadership in Israel. Some kings were good ones; they tried to follow God’s laws, or resurrect them if it had been a while, leading to military victory, peace, and blessing on crops and families. If they made mistakes, they accepted correction from the prophets. Other kings, though, ignored God’s laws and led Israel to worship false gods of surrounding nations, eventually resulting in conquest and exile.

But they all died. Each king’s story is summed up by whether or not he obeyed God. How does this principle inform our reaction to current leaders and events in our country and others?

There’s talk of a “Great Reset.”

There’s justifiable concern about U.S. citizens, Christians, and cooperative nationals impacted by the Afghanistan withdrawal and the current Ukraine situation. Our country seems so divided.

The Bible speaks to this situation. Consider Psalm 2:2, “The kings of the earth set themselves, and rulers take counsel together, against the Lord and against His Anointed, saying ‘Let us break Their bonds in pieces and cast away Their cords from us.’” (In my study Bible, capital letters indicate references to God; the words translated “Anointed One” describe the promised Messiah.)

Verse 4 continues, “He who sits in the heavens shall laugh; the Lord shall hold them in derision.” To summarize, evil kings conspire, but God just laughs at them.

I find this comforting, actually.

Regardless of what earthly leaders plan, they’ll die. And if they think they can outsmart God or thwart his purposes, he laughs at them.

The question might arise: How does this laughter line up with a loving God? History shows clearly that unity and peace won’t be achieved through human power and control.

Racism, genocide, violence and evil dictators have been around for centuries, and they’re around now.

Even though the Psalmist pictured God laughing at the futility of evil leaders’ actions, God in his love has also provided a way to peace with Him and with each other, accomplished by Jesus on the Cross.

into the Apostle Paul. Richard Wurmbrand and Corrie Ten Boom have written of Nazi prison guards turning to Christ because of Christian prisoners.

Radical Islamists have professed faith in Jesus after he appeared to them in dreams. Every unwise or evil leader would be welcomed if they turned to God, but they’ll all die, and they will spend eternity either with God or in hell.

Ephesians 2 describes the provision God has made for all of us, unpopular leaders included, if we accept it. God’s purpose for us is to serve him, not rebel against him. Unity with others and peace with God is possible through Jesus. Every earthly leader, good or bad, will pass, but Jesus is the Anointed One, the ultimate King.

Been Thinkin’ About...The faith of the broken I

was down in the snoot this week and thus finally had the chance to watch the 1976 film, “The Shootist,” with John Wayne, Lauren Bacall, Jimmy Stewart and a freshly hatched Ron Howard.

It was watching the cold winter’s end of an era with more somber emotion than movies of this sort are supposed to have: Hollow modernity set against the heartbreaking elegance of a life lived too long.

“The Shootist” was Wayne’s last of 69 films.

Though Wayne would die when I was less than a year old, I grew up with The Duke. And though he may have been a legend, to me he was nearly as familiar as my own farmer-cowboy-and-carpenter grandpa.

Both grew up in southern Iowa.

Both knew what they wanted when they wanted it. Both could turn a phrase (though Grandpa Jim never

had writers on hand to make sure his statements turned out right).

Both were good on a horse. Both could cuss and drink whiskey. I think, in my young mind, there was a conflation between the two men that never quite unsorted itself.

To this, the aging Wayne playing an aging gunfighter comes in like a stiff shot of whiskey: “I’m a dying man afraid of the dark.”

And, sitting on the couch as winter crouched outside the windows, I cried.

Capitol Report: House bills continue to be referred to committee

By State Representative BRIAN SEITZ ne of the main topics for debate last week was redistricting. After much consideration, I decided to vote against the so-called 6-2 map. The map divided Taney County. I believe the people of Taney County deserve to be represented by the same person who shares the same values. I also believe that Missouri elected a Republican Legislature because they expected us to draw a map which would elect more Republicans to Congress, which the current map did not achieve.

Wednesday, January 19, was extremely busy for me. I presented three bills to three different committees. The bills were heard in the following committees: House Bill 2097 was heard in the House Committee on downsizing state government This bill creates provisions relating to visitation rights in hospitals and long-term care facilities. When I presented this legislation, I stressed the most important point that “isolation kills. Human beings were created by God to participate in interactive activity, to love one another.”

House Bill 2096 was heard in

the House Committee Professional Registration and Licensing. This bill modifies provisions relating to physical therapists. The legislation would make it easier for prospective patients to access physical therapists.

While testifying on this bill, I stated that “House Bill 2096 is designed to help relieve the burden of an already strained healthcare system, allow for self-determination regarding patient treatment, and provide cost savings to Missourians during a time of economic upheaval.”

House Bill 1669 was heard in the House Committee on elementary and secondary education.

This bill prohibits discrimination in education. It would prohibit requiring students from participating in certain race or gender based instruction that violates their conscience or seeks to make people like them feel negatively about themselves.

In my testimony for this legislation, I explained “As a general rule of law, each person is responsible for the consequences of his or her own actions. Our children should not be made to feel responsible for the actions of individuals before they were even born. They should not be made to think of themselves as ‘oppressor’ or ‘oppressed’ due to past evils com-

mitted throughout history.”

As a State Representative, it is my duty to listen to different bills in committees. This week I had the opportunity to sit as a member of the House Tourism Committee and Crime Prevention Committees.

Throughout the deliberation process, I put much consideration into how these bills might affect constituents back in the 156th.

Branson High School Air Force JROTC (Special to Branson Globe) Submitted to Branson Globe The Air Force JROTC instructors and cadets of Branson High School earned an overall unit assessment score of “Exceeds Standards” - the highest rating attainable. The evaluation was con-

ducted on January 10, 2022.

Instructors MSgt. Quezon D. Atwood and Lt. Col. Crismon A. Brayman have created a dynamic and supportive learning environment coupled with excellent community outreach. The sponsors

provided outstanding leadership in administering the cadet-centered citizenship program.

Cadets were evaluated on academic objectives, cadet corps focus, uniform requirements, and event development and performance.

“Branson High School has also developed what may be the most active Honor Guard in the nation, as well as a well-equipped and well-led Marksmanship Team and Cyber Patriot (cyber security) Team,” says Lt Col Brayman.

The Lt. Col. states these programs bring “focus, discipline, and camaraderie to the corps.”

Pilot Training is another notable program offering, including Aviation Honors Ground School

(AHGS), cadet-built flight simulators, and flight scholarship opportunities. “Units across the nation contact BHS instructors for assistance in building their Aviation/ STEM programs,” says Lt Col Brayman. BHS AFJROTC have attained awards including Distinguished Unit, Distinguished Unit

with Merit, and Outstanding Organization Awards.

Following the National Anthem, the Pledge of Allegiance led by Hollister Mayor Lamar Patton, and the invocation by Pastor Jeramie Henson of Church 3:16, attendees enjoyed a delicious dinner.

Elmquist presided over the 50/50 raffle drawing, including plenty of laughter as the winner donated some of his proceeds back to the Chamber in exchange for chocolate cake, and the live auction of several items donated by local businesses. Proceeds from the raffle and auctions fund the Chamber’s office expenses and help with the regular community events that serve those in need, provide fun and entertainment, and celebrate Hollister history.

John Hagey wrapped up his term as Chamber Board Chairman by thanking the many sponsors, board members, and others who make those events possible. Special mention was made of the ingenuity involved in structuring events around COVID-19 limitations, particularly the Santa Train in December where children and families themselves became the train, making their way around Chad A. Fuqua Park to enjoy treats, activities and the 70-degree day.

Hagey introduced the incoming Chairman, Julie Bolton with TriLakes Board of Realtors. Community ambassadors and board members were also thanked for their hours of behind-the-scenes work and service, with special recognition to Marietta Hagan, Lisa Marshall and Melissa Box, who completed their terms this year.

Branson radio personality debuts recording by former Branson entertainer

By K.D. MICHAELS, Staff Writer A local radio station has debuted a remake of a classic song recorded by a former Branson entertainer.

Vocalist James Marvell, formerly of the pop group Mercy, recently teamed up with country legend Bobby G. Rice to record the Otis Redding classic “Sitting on the Dock of the Bay.” Mercy is best known for their hit “Love Can Make You Happy,” which topped both Billboard’s Top 100 Singles and the adult contemporary charts.

Said Marvell, “There is a Vietnam Veterans group called ‘Welcome Home 2020,’ which I promote. It became the Veterans Event of the Decade in 2021. Bill Akins, who heads it up, wanted some of the folks in the event to record

some songs, so Bobby G. Rice and I recorded the old classic, “Sitting on the Dock of the Bay.” The song was originally recorded back in 1967 and became a Vietnam favorite in 1968, which places it in the time era when I was recording with Mercy.”

The Board of Education will begin discussions in seeking the future leadership of Hollister Elementary. Dr. Henson will continue to serve as principal through the end of the 2021-2022 school year.

Upon her retirement in May, Dr. Henson will begin a new journey serving as Director of Education/Relations at Church 3:16, where her husband, Jeramie Henson, serves as lead pastor.

In Southwest Missouri there are homes of many different ages, ranging from newly constructed residences to lake cabins and vintage homes that were built in the first days of electricity. This means that there are two kinds of power distribution systems in this area: circuit breaker panels and fuse boxes. Although many people still use the term “fuse box” when talking about their modern circuit breaker panel, they are not interchangeable terms or devices.

Here are some of the differences:

Fuse boxes are becoming more obsolete, which often makes obtaining replacement fuses difficult.

The circuit breaker is a rectangular device with a handle.

When the electricity exceeds the amperage rating for the breaker, it will trip itself off as a warning. The handle is then used to reset it rather than replace it. Of course, if a breaker continues to trip, there is a problem that needs solving, as a balanced electrical system does not continually trip the breakers.

So, does that mean that a fuse box isn’t safe? Not necessarily; but a fuse box is a major indication that the home’s electrical system has not been upgraded to manage the higher electrical demands of this decade. It could be the first clue that there are other outdated components like the wire in the walls, ungrounded outlets, or many other age-related hazards.

might seem a little “off the beaten path,” although Rogers jokes that you can easily see the beaten path, since the ridge location offers a great view of the Highway 76 strip from the front and Table Rock Lake from the rear porch and balcony. Once tourists have found it, many put it on their list of places to return. Antiques took a downturn in popularity after the 2008 housing market crash, but Rogers notes they are cycling back. His regulars include young couples who enjoy browsing antique or vintage items for a sense of renewed connection with their heritage, as well as college students who stop by while on spring break.

Hands-only CPR: Take time to be prepared

By CINDY THOMAS, Staff Writer Several area residents gathered at the education center of the Taney County Ambulance District office in Hollister on Thursday, January 20, to take advantage of free hands-only CPR training. Two more classes are scheduled for this season: Thursday, February 17, and Thursday, March 17. The one-hour classes begin at 9 a.m.

The ambulance district, with support from the Hollister Rotary Club, has set a goal of training at least 2,000 area residents through classes. Anyone who feels hesitant about attending should be aware of two things: First, it could save a life; and second, you can do this!

The technique is not difficult to remember or perform.

However, statistics improve dramatically in patients for whom chest compressions are started immediately and continued until trained personnel can take over.

Of approximately 350,000 cardiac arrest events annually, over 90% actually have a heart problem. Sadly, those numbers have risen post-World War II, as Amer-

icans adopted more sedentary lifestyles, more processed foods, and increased social use of alcohol. A very small percentage of cardiac events are secondary to traumatic events such as drowning or choking, particularly in children; or involve oxygen deprivation due to enclosed spaces or opioid overdose. Those people need the traditional CPR approach of clearing the airway and incorporating rescue breathing. However, a few years ago a group of doctors began promoting a different approach in most cases because if the heart just suddenly stops, there is still oxygen present in the blood.

Stock Market Insights: First quarter growth expectations lowered

Economic analysts have low-

ered growth expectations for the first quarter of 2022. Facing a headwind as buyers struggle with high inflation and higher COVID-19 infections, and companies contend with rising labor costs and supply train problems.

The Wall Street Journal surveyed 69 business, academic and

financial analysts between January 7-11. They cut their growth expectation for the first quarter by almost a third, to an annual rate of 3% instead of their forecasted 4.2% from their October survey.

This just shows how difficult the balance is for the U.S. economy. It could go either way this winter.

At the same time, Chairman Powell and the Federal Reserve is under pressure from companies and buyers to get inflation under control. Even President Biden pointed a finger at the Federal Reserve when he was asked about inflation.

With inflation rising at the fastest rate in almost forty years the Fed might be forced to be more aggressive on raising short-term interest rates than they want to, which risks a recession. They are caught between not raising interest rates fast enough to contain inflation or raising them too quickly which would shake up the markets as well.

It’s the first time in decades that the Federal Reserve has had to chase down inflation. There’s a chance everyone who worked on it last time has retired so let’s hope the new ‘kids’ are up to the test.

Most analysts I’m reading expect

the Fed to raise rates at its policy meeting on March 15-16 and do it two more times over the year.

I’m still a gun guy through and through. It’s that country layer under all those degrees. But these days shotguns are my weapon of choice. I don’t have to worry about lowering my aim as much.

Hopefully, the rest of the years outlook won’t have to lower much either.

Southern Missouri Arts Connection to feature solo exhibit by Robert Langford

Artist Robert Langford (Special to Branson Globe) Submitted to Branson Globe Make plans to stop by for artist and retired educator Robert Langford with his solo exhibit “Weather, Texture and the Process of Time” during the opening reception held from 6-9 p.m. on Friday, February 4, in the Southern Missouri Arts Connection (SMAC) gallery on 7 Downing Street. As Langford describes, one will find a “Blend of the past with the present.” The exhibit will be on display February 4-26 in historic downtown Hollister, which includes locally owned restaurants and shops.

A variety of elements find their home in Langford’s art. One item in the exhibit will be the sculpture “Preening Crow” created from sheet metal, wire and wood. Another to view is the portrait on newsprint “Larry” from “The Three Stooges.”

“I’m drawn to things that are fading out,” says Langford as he uses resources that “have outlived their usefulness.” Each art piece encourages viewer participants to reflect and experience each piece of art, such as his work created about an orchard that has been surrounded by development in Northwest Arkansas. When examining the sawed off branches, the overgrown field and transposed items, Langford encourages each person to “find meaning that is only your own.” As Langford reflects, “Searching for the meaning (in art) is like looking at the clouds.”

Other work of Langford’s includes the mural wall at Fritz’s Adventure on Highway 76 that is 124 feet of space painted like old pipes named “Pipe Wall” to capture the industrial design of the building. The Springfield Art Museum includes one of Langford’s works in their permanent collection, and his work has been included in other exhibits,

including in St. Louis and Tennessee. While he has received many accolades from Watercolor USA and others, Langford’s demeanor is more about the experience and meaning in art.

Langford earned his B.A. in Art in 1981 and his K-12 Art Education Certification in 1982 from the University of Arkansas. His public school teaching of art spanned from 1983-2018, including 11 years near Ft. Smith, Arkansas, followed by 24 years for Branson High School here in the Ozarks. No doubt the art of teaching influenced Langford’s work as a professional artist. From years of teaching the fundamentals and art history, he studied a broader base of art.

After retirement from teaching art education, Robert Langford has become a full-time artist, taking commissions for murals, portraits, artistic dining tables and other projects. His work includes a variety

of mediums: oil paint, watercolor, film photography, ink, hardwood and other elements. He appreciates the art of Franz Kline, Van Gogh, Andrew Wyeth, Wayne Thiebaud, 19th Century American artists, and a collection of artists he follows on Instagram. Langford’s artistic style is mirrored in his personal recognition of the qualities in everyday moments: rich dark roast coffee, home and family, good humor, contact sports, and anything rustic. His work that mingles the past with the

present can be found @artlangford on Instagram.

sions is vital. And since over 70% of non-hospitalized cardiac arrest events happen at or near home, the life you save might be your spouse, child, parent or friend.

After the lesson, class focus shifted to technique and practice. Good technique can provide

about 25% of normal blood flow, enough to get some valuable oxygen to the brain. If the patient is unresponsive and you can’t see, hear, or feel them breathing, compressions should start. Pointers for good technique include getting the patient onto the floor; keeping arms straight over the center of the chest, pushing approximately two inches for adult patients;

and pushing at the right speed.

(Classes are often taught using the song “Staying Alive,” for a 100–120 beat per minute pace.)

Other pointers include having 911 on speakerphone; a dispatcher can coach you while the ambulance is on the way.

Class participants quickly learned that good technique is tiring! Do your best to keep going,

but if another person is present, they can slide in from the other side and trade off. Participants were also told not to quit if they hear snapping cartilage; that will heal. Every state has Good Samaritan laws to protect people who try to help a victim.

After practice, class focus shifted to use of automated external defibrillators (AED).

Those interested in helping are urged to schedule the earliest-available blood or platelet donation appointment in their area to help ensure accident victims rushed to the emergency room, those being treated for cancer and others who count on blood product transfusions can receive lifesaving care without delay.

Since the Red Cross issued its first-ever blood crisis alert, severe winter weather has further com-

By KERRY DAWN GREEN They may not look like much, but these cookies are DELICIOUS! • 1 cup butter, softened • 1/2 cup sweetened condensed milk • 2 cups flour • 2 teaspoon baking powder • 1/2 cup powdered sugar Beat butter in mixer until light and fluffy. Add condensed milk and mix on high for 2 minutes; scrape sides if needed.

Add the flour and baking pow-

der and mix well.

Scoop by the spoonful onto a parchment lined baking sheet and bake for 12 minutes at 320 degrees. Once done allow to cool approximately 5 minutes, then sprinkle with the powdered sugar.

You can flavor these with extract or add chocolate chips or nuts, if you’d like.

Kasemets replaced Hamilton for the last stint as light rain began to fall again. The 47-year-old’s vast experience in prototypes and slick conditions shone through. He quickly climbed from sixth place on the restart and made quick work passing the newbie Koreiba for the race lead heading into the Bus Stop chicane with 22 minutes to go.

Patrick Kujala, who shared the No. 77 US RaceTronics Ligier with Brian Thienes, overtook Koreiba for second place with 17 minutes left. Kasemets won by 3.928 seconds at the checkered flag.

“Bruce did a hell of a job in his stint like we asked,” Kasemets said. “It was phenomenal. The car was hooked up, the team was unbelievable. We never gave up, we did some bold strategy, completely outside of the box this week. We

took care of our things; we didn’t care what anybody else did. It paid off.”

One element of the bold strategy was having Kasemets start the race, something Hamilton usually does.

“In that middle stint,” Hamilton said, “my job was to make sure I brought it home and gave him something to finish with.

I did and it worked. I’m still in shock, I don’t know what to say. Daytona is a fantastic place!”

Koreiba was still elated with the third-place finish in his Prototype Challenge debut.

“I was thinking it was going to be smooth sailing and we were just going to ride off

into the sunset,” the 24-yearold from Missouri said of his first stint. “But when we got that yellow and it bunched the field up, I knew it was going to be a difficult ride for us. I didn’t know it was going to be that difficult. Overall grip was definitely lacking in the second stint, especially with the mixed conditions coming. I was just hanging on to that thing at the end.”

For Gidley, nothing could dampen the joy of driving a prototype again on Daytona’s 3.56-mile road course. Not even watching a potential win slip away in slippery conditions.

“I feel great!” he said. “This

was obviously a last-minute deal and I haven’t been back to Daytona for a long time. And I haven’t driven a prototype for a long time as well. To come back out with a limited amount of practice, it was just great to get back in the car.

“I felt comfortable and to
