SHOWS Since the Baldknobbers Jamboree opened the first show in Branson, and Shepherd of the Hills followed with its outdoor drama, live shows in Branson have been a staple of a vacation to Branson. With more than 100 shows, Branson is truly the Live Music Show Capital of America! Morning, afternoon and night, live shows offer a variety of entertainment options for all. The wide range gives everyone something to sing about, and every one of the shows is appropriate and fun for all members of the family. There is music from nearly every era and style performed daily both by rising young entertainers and legendary stars. The many choices of music include pop, country, rock ‘n’ roll, gospel, patriotic, Broadway, western, Big Band, swing, bluegrass, jazz, classical and more. Music made famous by classical composers, cowboy poets, cinematic blockbusters, ’50s heartthrobs, ’60s pop bands, and today’s Top 40 artists can be enjoyed from early morning until late at night in Branson. Several internationally famous performers call Branson home, as do scores of ensemble production shows featuring large casts of singers, dancers and musicians. State-of-the-art productions, world-class tribute shows, and famous impersonators add to an eclectic mix of entertainment. We like to say that we have “more stars per square foot than anywhere else in the universe!” Entire families of entertainers headline shows in Branson and continue a time-honored tradition pioneered by the Mabe family of the Baldknobbers and the Presley family of Presleys’ Country Jubilee. Comedians are a Branson mainstay, both as headliners and as specialty acts during zany variety shows. Peals of laughter can be heard throughout Branson as hilarious comedy that the whole family can enjoy together tickles the funnybone at Jim Stafford, Paul Harris and the Hamner Barber shows.

18

International shows broaden the scope of entertainment diversity. These shows inject cultural flavor through their music, dance, acrobatics, costuming and sets. Each April, Silver Dollar City presents World-Fest, bringing in hundreds of performers from around the world. Branson is truly a melting pot of international entertainment with Acrobats of China to Yakov and more. Morning shows such as Buck Trent and Amazing Pets are as popular as ever in Branson, as are dinner shows, so check with the theater. Multi-million dollar Sight & Sound Theatres, with “Joseph,” and Dolly Parton’s Dixie Stampede are presented in unique venues that add to your vacation experience. Student performance groups have a unique opportunity to perform onstage at any one of a number of theaters in Branson. Student group travel planners can make arrangements for their band, choir, show choir or other performance groups to appear in front of a live audience in a pre-show performance. It’s easy to meet the stars in Branson because many of them welcome the opportunity to sign autographs and pose for pictures wherever they are, whether in the lobby after the show or out on the golf course. Most performers live in the area full-time and can often be seen enjoying the same shows and attractions that you do. If you run into a Branson celebrity, feel free to go up and say hello. They’ll be happy to make your acquaintance! Many of the performers will greet groups before or after the show and will make personal visits to the motorcoach, van or bus after the show. Groups are often recognized from the stage at intermission or before the show. All the theaters listed in this guide offer designated motorcoach parking. For a complete list of shows, please visit ExploreBranson.com.

TEN HELPFUL REUNION TIPS The Branson/Lakes Area Convention & Visitors Bureau is your ticket to planning a successful reunion in Branson. These 10 tips have been developed to help you in your planning process. Planning your reunion well in advance will give you enough time to take care of all the details involved. An activities-timeline can be a helpful tool, ensuring all your plans are in place. the Purpose. Talk to those within the reunion group 01 toDetermine determine exactly what you would like to accomplish through the reunion. If the reunion is to bring together people who have not seen each other for 25 years, the activities you plan may be quite different than those for a family whose members see each other yearly. Set the Date or Range of Dates, and Determine 02 Attendance. If you have a relatively small number of people involved, this can be done over the phone. If you have a large group to coordinate, it might be a good idea to send out a survey to get input on these considerations: • Time of year • Type of accommodations • Kinds of activities • Budget • Dietary considerations • Other elements important to your group. Dates for the reunion should be confirmed at least a year in advance to allow members time to plan for vacation and save money for the trip. If people are traveling a considerable distance to attend, it’s a good idea to take several days for the reunion or at least a long weekend. And remember, no date is going to be perfect for everyone.

56

Budget. Decide what expenses will be paid directly 03 Determine by your attending reunion members (for example, travel, hotel, or perhaps a couple of meals) and what costs will be incurred by the group (catering or meals, facilities rental, postage). These costs should be divided among the participants or covered by a fund-raising effort. Some reunions charge a “registration fee” to cover incidentals. Make sure that you specify exactly what is and what isn’t included in the fee when you send out the invitations. You will want to set a due date in advance (a couple of months at least), for a percentage of the fee to be sent to you. This will also help solidify the guest list. Keep good records, and do your best to stay within the set budget. You can also make fund-raising part of the fun. An auction for which everyone contributes an item, a raffle or bake sale can help with raising extra money during the reunion, and be entertaining, too. Call the Branson/Lakes Area CVB. The sales staff offers a 04 wealth of services for you to make your planning easy. One of the most valuable complimentary services is the opportunity for you to gain bids for lodging, dining, ticketing and planning services and more for your reunion. The CVB will use an RFP (Request For Proposal) service that goes to all properties that can handle your particular type of reunion. All you need to do is provide the information, then sit back and wait for the bids to come to you. Many other services and helpful hints are available at www.explorebranson.com (RFP form is located on page 55 and on ExploreBranson.com). Lodging after Receiving RFP Responses. This is 05 Select best accomplished once you have a potential date and an approximate number of people, as well as an idea of how much you are willing to spend for accommodations.

Branson has many great lodging and camping facilities available from value-priced motels to lakefront resorts and luxury hotels. Many of the properties are open year-round (you may be able to save money by traveling off season). Depending on the size of your group, you may qualify for a group discount, so be sure to ask the reservationist when you call. If you qualify for a group discount, you will need to decide whether you want to spread the savings to the entire group or designate any among your group as receiving a complimentary trip. It’s important when choosing your accommodations to consider whether or not your reunion would like a hospitality room, banquet room, catered meals on-site, and/or a restaurant on-site or within walking distance. When making reservations, request a confirmation letter from the lodging property that spells out all the details to avoid surprises. The letter should include dates, number of people, price per person, cancellation terms, and any other pertinent details. Review it thoroughly before signing and discuss any questions right away. Feel free to contact the Branson/ Lakes Area CVB if you have any questions. Committees. If your reunion is large, you may want to 06 Select create committees that will handle particular tasks. Not only does this help spread the responsibilities, it also allows people to feel part of the effort. You may select committees to arrange the following: • Accommodations • Meals • Activities • Main event • Publicity within the group and invitations • Specialty items such as group t-shirts, memory books or other items. Itinerary. Remember to plan activities that groups can do 07 Plan together, but also allow some “free time” for visiting and enjoying Branson’s surroundings. Branson has many venues for group activities, many of which can be combined into an activity such as lake cruises, dinner shows and theatres that are open for group functions. Consult the listings and you’re sure to find something for everyone. Consider games for large groups like softball and volleyball, a kids table (with toys and crafts), a group dinner with presentations, contests or talent shows. You may want to plan an opening ceremony or do a casual meet and greet; it’s up to you. You’re sure to find the ideal location in the Branson/Lakes Area. Plan Meals. Meal planning can be tricky and gets more diffi08 cult as the age range of your group members expands. For your banquet, welcome reception, farewell brunch or any group meal function, make sure to find out in advance about any special dietary requirements for anyone in your group. Branson offers a wide range of dining choices from fast food to fine dining. The area’s many buffets can be a great way to accommodate a variety of tastes. You will need to determine how many meals you might like to eat together, how many meals are “on your own” and how many meals can be included in the “registration fee.” Decide if the meals will be banquet, buffet or reception style; a mixture of these options is usually a good bet. Making reservations at a restaurant for a large group, it’s good to get a letter of confirmation that spells out the details, and don’t forget to budget for gratuities.

Attendees. Once you have decided on an itinerary, it’s 09 Notify time to send out invitations. Do this well in advance (six months to a year) and also send a reminder a few weeks before the occasion. Include dates, accommodations, a preliminary itinerary, contact person with phone number, all costs, payment procedure, directions, and what clothing and equipment are appropriate. This internet link will take you to our website page with information about our year round climate: http:// www.explorebranson.com/about/weather. Assistance. Retain the committees throughout the 10 Enlist event so that you don’t have to take care of all the details. Clearly delegate tasks before the event: set-up, cooking, clean-up, picture taking, and other tasks. Depending on the complexity of your reunion, you may want to meet with the committees each morning to make sure all arrangements have been completed. Reunions can be even more memorable with group name tags, group photos (see page 15 for group photo options), a scrapbook for pictures and special memories, a special t-shirt or sweatshirt, a directory of attendees, or a display of group memorabilia and an event-specific autograph book for all the attendees that could include a few Branson entertainers! The Branson/Lakes Area Convention & Visitors Bureau can assist you in finding the appropriate area vendor for your needs. As the event approaches, remember to always be prepared. Have a contingency plan for inclement weather; provide extra sunscreen, simple first aid materials, snacks, and other needs. Most importantly, reunions are for everyone to enjoy and the Branson/Lakes Area Convention & Visitors Bureau can help you do just that.

MILITARY REUNIONS Branson, Missouri, nestled in the beauty of the Ozark Mountains and surrounded by pristine lakes, is the perfect year-round destination for a sentimental journey, as Veterans of all eras and branches reunite in this special community that focuses on recognizing military service and sacrifice. Reunions of almost any size can find suitable accommodations, as Branson offers various meeting facilities for up to as many as 4,000 attendees. “Welcome Home!” and “Thank you for your service!” resound as greetings here in our live entertainment venues and attractions, lodging properties, restaurants, shops, and wherever folks gather. Several Branson veteran organizations come together to hold dozens of special events and commemorations throughout the year to welcome veterans and to honor their service and commitment to country. One of the nation’s largest Veteran Tributes, Branson’s Veterans Homecoming, recognized on FOX news annually for several years, attracts tens of thousands of veterans, active duty military, and their families for a week of special music performances, memorial tributes, military displays, era reunions, and a Veterans Village where folks who visit once become good friends and then reunite every November 5-11. To learn more about this event, call and ask to receive “The Bugle,” a bi-annual publication. Are you the one everyone counts on to plan your military reunion? Or do you know just-the-right volunteer to head it up? Those who plan should know that the Branson Convention and Visitors Bureau will host our 9th Annual Military Reunion Planners Conference in Branson on August 19-22, 2013. The Branson CVB is always “at the ready” to help Planners get squared away with their very own “Operation: Military Reunion,” and this is one way Reunion Planners can do some serious re-

58

connaissance with personal site visits of potential lodging properties and restaurants. And, through special marketplace appointments, get to know the business professionals who are devoted to nothing less than your success! Whether able to attend the Planner’s Conference or not, military reunion planners considering Branson as their reunion destination can expect to find CVB professionals who are experienced and eager to help with the RFP selection process (found on page 55) for your lodging, meeting facilities, shows and attractions, and dining and recreational activities in order to create an event that is both exciting and relaxing for all attendees. Branson invites you to be “at-ease”, enjoying “R&R” in the atmosphere of our patriotic heritage, harmony, and hospitality as we salute your service!

Branson Honors Veterans Every Day!

FAMILY REUNIONS One day, Moms and Dads everywhere who smiled at their newborn with dreams of their child’s legacy, look back on that moment and realize the importance of family connections. Hearth and home that once held us close, oftentimes finds our loved ones now spread from coast to coast. It’s time to ring that family dinner bell across the land to reunite! Let the many flavors of Branson delight the palates of your family members, young and young-at-heart, as they come together to savor all the adventures that lie within the beauty of these Ozark Mountains! Just like a family buffet, there’s something delightful for everyone’s taste! Those adventurous nieces and nephews in touch with nature can spice it up with hiking, biking, boating, fishing, water skiing, parasailing, diving, geocaching, go-karting, and even ziplining! Curious cousins can enjoy educational experiences within the walls of our many museums, cook up a culinary experience, imagine with IMAX, or even perhaps attend a behind-the-scenes- tour at a theatre! When Grandpa and grandsons get gung-ho over our great number of golf courses, Grandmother greets the girls on a glitzy shopping spree, from downtown to uptown, and all in between. Even the in-laws can take on the outlaws if they are up to the challenge of the screamingly steep, brazenly bold, and furiously fast Outlaw Run, the new wood double barrel rollercoaster at

Silver Dollar City opening in 2013! Added to this recipe of fun are the family values that are honored and celebrated in the live entertainment shows, and it’s easy to see at the end of the day why Branson has earned the distinction as the #1 Family Destination in the Midwest, no matter what the season! Creating family fun is the specialty of the many families in Branson’s show business venues. Autograph hounds, whether teenagers or keen-agers, will be warmly welcomed by many of the shows’ stars as they pose for post-performance pictures. So don’t stew about your next reunion, simply let the professionals at the Branson/Lakes Area Convention & Visitors Bureau help you with the RFP selection process (found on page 55) for your lodging, shows and attractions, and dining and recreational activities in order to create an event that is both exciting and relaxing for all attendees. WINERIES Newcomers to Branson may be surprised to find Missouri’s oldest and most awarded winery as one of the town’s most popular attractions. With 12,000 square feet of space, Stone Hill Winery’s Branson location has been receiving and entertaining visitors since 1986. The winery, located at the junction of Highway 165 and Green Mountain Drive (just two blocks south of Hwy. 76), delights thousands of tourists daily with a free, fun-filled hour of touring. Tasting Stone Hill’s many award-winning wines completes the experience. Mount Pleasant Winery, with their award-wining wines, offers another reason to learn more about oenology, the science and study of all aspects of wine and winemaking. Located on Green Mountain Drive, just east of Stone Hill in Branson, Mount Pleasant is more than just a terrific place to enjoy great wines. It has a wine shop, an art gallery and hands-on bottling experiences all rolled into one. Visitors to Mount Pleasant have the unique opportunity to bottle their own dessert wine from a specially designed 600-gallon French oak barrel. Be sure to visit the tasting galleries, where more than wine is on display. The tasting galleries feature the works of renowned Missouri artists — from glass artisans to folk artisans to painters and sculptors. Enjoy the art while sipping your wine. Lindwedel Wine Garden features wines produced in the state of Missouri. The Lindwedel family wants to provide “a relaxed atmosphere in which to enjoy some of God’s most precious gifts, for any occasion, or none at all.” With outdoor decks and picnic areas overlooking a scenic Ozark panorama, indoor sitting rooms, and an event hall for larger groups, the wine garden offers a beautiful location for weddings, parties, reunions and other social gatherings. The views are absolutely spectacular, and

the family and staff understand true Ozark hospitality and take great pleasure in making people feel comfortable and warmly welcomed. Branson’s newest winery experience, Branson Ridge Winery & Marketplace, is conveniently located on the scenic promenade in the vibrant Town Square of Branson Landing. It is the perfect location for enjoying Branson Landing’s Concert Series and the spectacular fountain show on the lakefront. After you taste some of the wonderful Missouri wine, plan on relaxing for a while on the outdoor sheltered patio and enjoy fabulous fare in a casual, European-style setting at Cafe diVine. During unseasonable weather, you may choose to dine in the comfortable indoor seating with views of the barrel room. The Marketplace offers a variety of specialty foods and gifts from Europe and many other corners of the globe. You can even create your own wine label while at the winery – brand your own wine or personalize a gift for someone special! Copper Run Distillery is a small artisan distillery dedicated to making handcrafted whiskeys using a traditional copper pot still. Production methods are a blend of both Ozark tradition and progressive techniques developed over time. The unique limestone water, the local corn and white oak barrels from the Ozarks, contribute to our award-winning spirits that are gaining national attention and recognition. Our facility can accomodate up to 50 people for special events.

A proud tradition of Missouri winemaking

GOLF When you explore Branson golf, you’ll discover a new world of awardwinning courses connected with the greatest names in golf: Fazio. Nicklaus. Palmer. Even Payne Stewart. There are now more than a dozen courses for golfers of every caliber, and there’s not a better way to enjoy the magnificent scenery of the Ozark Mountains. Most of these courses can accommodate tournaments and corporate special events, and offer private instructions by appointment.

of the Rock and LedgeStone, to Pointe Royale and Murder Rock. Or take a lovely walk in the park at Holiday Hills. It’s just the beginning. Ladies love golfing in Branson, too. Several of the courses are shorter and many are designed for all skill levels, including forward tees, greens with open fronts, few forced carries and multiple tee boxes.

Test your skill on Branson Creek, the powerful Fazio design ranked Best Public Golf Course in Missouri. Named in “Top 100 in America” by Golf Digest, this 18-hole championship course has been described as “playing two different courses” because of the elevation difference; the front nine plays the valley, the back nine plays the ridge.

With an outstanding list of honors and awards to their credit by Golf Digest, Golf Week, and Travel and Leisure Golf magazine among others, the Branson area’s thirteen courses are among the Midwest’s finest. Players can expect to find lush Bermuda and Zoysia fairways and tees, bent grass greens, plenty of waterfalls, lakes, creeks and bunker features and a variety of open and tree-lined fairways.

Stroll through time when you visit Payne Stewart Golf Club, with its museum of championship trophies and memorabilia. One of the newest courses, designed by Bobby Clampett, named for the lake, great golf pro Payne Stewart. He was from Springfield, Missouri and the course honors his character with plaques at every hole.

Many of our golf resorts host meetings and conventions, and feature meeting space, food & beverage menus and unique lodging options for your attendees. Golf outings and events are very popular in our destination – and many groups take advantage of all the opportunities to get out on our greens while in town.

Enjoy a round at the centrally located Thousand Hills, and you might find a few stars on the first tee. Take a golf trail tour that leads from Top
