THE FUTURE For more than 75 years, Oklahoma State University Institute of Technology has been dedicated to educating Oklahoma’s workforce. The institution has undergone many changes in that time, becoming more must position ourselves for the future.

It’s an exciting time to be in higher education, and our constituents depend on OSUIT not only to remain current in our instruction but to be innovative in our methodologies. We have many distinct programs of study that are not commonly taught elsewhere. OSUIT has a unique opportunity to reimagine and reinvent how applied, hands-on learning is conducted and prepare it for the future with the next technology platform— extended reality (XR).

OSUIT is addressing the needs of today’s college students and today’s workforce—providing full educational access through virtual reality (VR) training experiences and cutting-edge instructional formats across various programs. Our institution is pioneering new breakthroughs in education by creating an immersive, virtual version of OSUIT. The OSUIT Metaversity is a “digital twin” of campus within the Metaverse. It serves as a single deployment platform for all VR learning modules, experiences and other related tasks for
OSUIT will be able to expand its inclusiveness and reach by allowing students to learn in virtual reality, empowering distance learning and adapting to ever-changing learning conditions. VR doesn’t replace handson learning – it enhances it and allows OSUIT to remain the leader in technical education. Unique to OSUIT’s curriculum is how its creation is informed by industry partners and the current workforce landscape. Much of what we do depends on the feedback, input and support of our industry and tribal partners and without them, we

Oklahoma A&M purchased the campus now known as Oklahoma State University Institute of Technology in 1946 for just one dollar. It’s quite the return on investment when you consider the economic impact the institution has had on Oklahoma over the last 75 years. While $1 can’t move the needle on capital projects these days, the education and experiences students have gained over the last 75 years remain priceless. Although many things have changed in the past 75 years, OSUIT has never wavered from its mission to provide a high-quality education that prepares students for extraordinary careers.
HERE, YOU DO GET TO LEARN THE THEORY BEHIND IT, BUT YOU REALLY GET TO PUT YOUR HANDS ON REAL-LIFE STUFF THAT YOU WILL BE DOING ONCE YOU GET OUT INTO INDUSTRY. OSUIT IS CONTINUING BY...
RE-INVENTING THE DELIVERY OF HANDS-ON TRAINING WITH THE NEXT TECHNOLOGY PLATFORM— EXTENDED REALITY (XR) The institution is creating a digitized version of reality commonly known as the “Metaverse” and plans to be a pioneer in embracing these new possibilities in education. The OSUIT Metaversity is set to launch in early 2023. The institution currently has six VR modules under development, including Culinary Place Settings, Culinary Service Steps, Engines: Basic Function and Operations & Service, Gas Compression Skids, Instrumentation Engineering and an Information Technologies Escape Room. CREATING NEW DEGREE OPTIONS FOR WORKFORCE NEEDS OSUIT added an additional degree option, Cyber Incident Response, for the Bachelor of Technology in Information Technologies. This option prepares individuals for the detection, mitigation, and response of cyber incidents. Topics include threat detection

CREATING AND DELIVERING HIGH-QUALITY CUSTOMIZED TRAINING PROGRAMS OSUIT’s Workforce & Economic Development programs and has a long history of working with employers to develop customized training solutions for the incumbent workforce and new hires ranging in basic entry-level skill sets to advanced training for experienced personnel in various disciplines.
TRIBAL PARTNERSHIPS Hosted the 1st annual Sovereign Nations Workforce Convening Partnered with Cherokee Nation to create High Voltage Lineman and Fiber Cabling programs Partnered with Muscogee Nation to create a Fiber Cabling program
DEPARTMENT OF COMMERCE AWARD Awarded $754,970 from the Department of Commerce’s National Telecommunications and Information Administration (NTIA) to develop and implement the Student Success and Increasing Minority Workforce Participation Program which will address two critical issues being faced by Oklahoma’s rural communities: (1) The availability of broadband services in Oklahoma’s low-income communities, and 2) A lack of skilled workers and high-quality training programs available for Fiber Technicians in Oklahoma’s low-income, rural communities.

WEDA Technician Like many of you, I grew up on a farm and have been driving tractors my whole life but did not have any clue on how they functioned mechanically. I did not know what a sparkplug or turbocharger was, and I was not familiar with engine components when I came to OSUIT. Because of the internships with P&K Equipment and the curriculum at OSUIT, I am now splitting tractors, removing engines from skid steers and repairing machines every day. Do not let failure ruin your confidence at your job. Instead, focus on your achievements to help you when a challenging job arises. Just because we graduate today does not mean that we stop learning tomorrow.

Reinventing the Delivery of Hands-On Technical Education OSU Institute of Technology is using virtual reality (VR) to transform technical education through its virtual campus, the OSUIT Metaversity. Debra and Willis C. Worley, Jr. S C H O L A R S H I P E N D OW M E N T On May 25, 2021, OSUIT lost a dear friend and advocate, Mrs. Debra Worley of Waurika, OK. Debra’s connection to OSUIT began many years ago when her future husband, Willis, and his brother Joe Tom attended Oklahoma A&M College School of Technical Training, now OSUIT. In 2008, Debra and Willis established an endowed scholarship in honor of Curby and Aline Brown. Mr. Brown was Willis’s instructor who inspired him to teach the first away in 2011, Debra ensured that a part of his estate funded the scholarship he was passionate about. Debra avidly looked forward to learning about the new students who would benefit from the scholarship. Several years later, Debra created the Joe Thomas Worley Memorial Endowed Scholarship in honor of her late brotherin-law. After her own passing, Debra’s estate funded the scholarship she set up with a monumental gift of $300,000. The Worley’s legacy will live on through countless generations of students at OSUIT and we are profoundly grateful for their loyalty and generosity.

2022 REGENTS BUSINESS PARTNERS EXCELLENCE AWARD The partnership between Public Service Company of Oklahoma (PSO) and Oklahoma State University Institute of Technology stretches back several decades. PSO was one of the primary forces behind the creation of the High Voltage Technician program at OSUIT, and now provides numerous paid internships to OSUIT students every year, donates equipment and supplies to support academic programs, and features PSO employees on various program advisory committees. A model for collaboration between industry and education, the impact of this partnership can be seen throughout the OSUIT campus.
“Receiving the GPA Midstream scholarship has impacted my life in many ways,” said Shaw. “Coming from a family of four children, my parents couldn’t just pick one kid who gets money to get an education; this scholarship has helped my parents and leaves me with little to no debt upon graduation.” The importance of education was instilled in him from a young age. As a child, his mother would pack up him and his siblings and take them to class with her so she could attend college. “My parents set an example that no obstacle will stop you from obtaining a degree,” said Shaw. Hired before graduation, Trenton now works with Mesa Products, following his father’s footsteps in the same industry.
