With those words, ConocoPhillips President and CEO James J. Mulva brought a crowd of more than 200 to their feet in a standing ovation at groundbreaking ceremonies for the new ConocoPhillips OSU Alumni Center on October 4, 2003. With an additional $1.5 million pledged for other university priorities, the $7.5 million commitment is the largest corporate gift in the history of Oklahoma State University. Dr. David Schmidly, OSU System CEO and President summarized the historic event when he said, “today truly is an orange letter day.”

Crowd as Major Gift Announced ConocoPhillips OSU Alumni Center The 52,000 square foot alumni center is located next to Old Central. It will provide a home on campus for alumni and includes facilities for upscale meeting and dining experiences.

Legacy Hall will recognize the achievements of alumni and honor the history and heritage of OSU. The staff and programs of the Alumni Association will be housed in the Alumni Center, which will also include the OSU Visitors Center and offices of the retired faculty and staff Emeriti Association. It will be a gateway to the campus and a destination place for alumni and friends for decades to come.

More Work to be Done The Alumni Association is close to achieving its dream of an Alumni Center on the OSU campus. To date nearly $11 million has been raised,

with an estimated $14 million cost for construction and professional fees.

Purchase of land for parking and finance costs are expected to add an additional $2 million to the total project cost. According to Leonard Court, Chairman of the Alumni Center project, “This is a once in a lifetime opportunity for alumni to help us accomplish what we all need – an Alumni Center to keep us all connected for life.” To complete the project on schedule, we need participation from all alumni and friends. Naming opportunities remain at all gift levels, and gifts will be memorialized in the Alumni Center.
