Pierce • Publisher County Music Legend Alabama is set to host their annual Fan Appreciation this weekend and fans are in for a special treat as the band will perform a free concert on Sunday, June 15, 2014. Organizers are expecting a larger than usual crowd for the concert and said that it could bring thousands of people to the area. Some folks have even billed the event as a “Mini June Jam.” The concert is set to begin at 2 p.m and will be held at the Alabama Fan Club in Fort Payne. The Concert is free and open to the public and folks are encouraged to bring their own lawn chairs. Donations will be accepted to benefit the Perez Family of Valley Head and local charities in Fort Payne. Current members of the Alabama Fan Club will receive a wristband the day of the show for the concert’s VIP viewing area. Anyone that is not a member of the Fan Club, can sign up at the show for $35 (not required for entry to concert) Band members are also planning several other events this week for their fans. On Thursday June 12, Teddy Gentry and Rockit City’s Singing with the Stars will be held at Northeast Alabama Community College. There will be a Songwriters Session at 5:00 p.m., a Talent Contest at 6:00 p.m. and the Rockit City Concert at 8:00 p.m. Tickets are $10 in advance and $15 day of show. Advance tickets may be purchased at Alabama Headquarters 101 Glenn Boulevard SW in Fort Payne. On Friday, June 13 there will be a Fan Daze Concert Featuring Jeff Cook & The Allstar Goodtime Band and Special Guests at the DeKalb Theatre in Fort Payne. Doors Open at 5:00 p.m. and show time is set for 6:30 p.m. Tickets are $20 and can be purchased at the DeKalb Theatre box office in Fort Payne and picked up day of show. Also, during the day on Friday, fans will have the opportunity to tour Cook Castle at 1:00 p.m. The cost is $20 if you do not have a ticket to Jeff's fan concert or $10 if you do have a ticket. If you have not picked up tickets, please show paypal receipt. The 1st 100 people can have a tour and the castle is located at 1315 Scenic Rd in Fort Payne On Saturday, June 14 Randy Owen will be hosting Fandemonium On The Farm. Gates Open at noon and he will have a concert at 5:00 p.m. An autograph session is set to follow the concert. The cost is $20 and Randy Owen Fan Club Membership is required for entry. Construction is continuing on the Guntersville home for wounded warrior Corey Garmon. In July 2012, Garmon lost both of his legs below the knee while serving in Afghanistan. Anyone that would like to help with finishing the project or make a donation can call Mike Fitzpatrick at (502) 803-5499.
According to DeKalb County Sheriff Jimmy Harris, his office recently made several drug related arrests, including a 31-yearold man from the Ider area. Authorities arrested Timothy Brandon Richards, after Drug Task Force agents went to a residence on County Road 768 near Ider to serve a warrant.
Agents discovered Richards in the residence with a meth lab ready to start. A subsequent search of the residence turned up meth and drug paraphernalia. A small child was removed from the residence and placed with family members by Department of Human Resource workers.
According to Harris, Richards was charged with Unlawful Manufacture of Controlled Substance 1st, Unlawful Possession of Controlled Substance, and Unlawful Possession of Drug Paraphernalia. As of press, time Richards was in the DeKalb County Detention Center awaiting bond.
