Pierce • Publisher County Music Legend Alabama is set to host their annual Fan Appreciation this weekend and fans are in for a special treat as the band will perform a free concert on Sunday, June 15, 2014. Organizers are expecting a larger than usual crowd for the concert and said that it could bring thousands of people to the area. Some folks have even billed the event as a “Mini June Jam.” The concert is set to begin at 2 p.m and will be held at the Alabama Fan Club in Fort Payne. The Concert is free and open to the public and folks are encouraged to bring their own lawn chairs. Donations will be accepted to benefit the Perez Family of Valley Head and local charities in Fort Payne. Current members of the Alabama Fan Club will receive a wristband the day of the show for the concert’s VIP viewing area. Anyone that is not a member of the Fan Club, can sign up at the show for $35 (not required for entry to concert) Band members are also planning several other events this week for their fans.

On Thursday June 12, Teddy Gentry and Rockit City’s Singing with the Stars will be held at Northeast Alabama Community College. There will be a Songwriters Session at 5:00 p.m., a Talent Contest at 6:00 p.m. and the Rockit City Concert at 8:00 p.m. Tickets are $10 in advance and $15 day of show. Advance tickets may be purchased at Alabama Headquarters 101 Glenn Boulevard SW in Fort Payne.

On Friday, June 13 there will be a Fan Daze Concert Featuring Jeff Cook & The Allstar Goodtime Band and Special Guests at the DeKalb Theatre in Fort Payne. Doors Open at 5:00 p.m. and show time is set for 6:30 p.m. Tickets are $20 and can be purchased at the DeKalb Theatre box office in Fort Payne and picked up day of show. Also, during the day on Friday, fans will have the opportunity to tour Cook Castle at 1:00 p.m. The cost is $20 if you do not have a ticket to Jeff's fan concert or $10 if you do have a ticket. If you have not picked up tickets, please show paypal receipt. The 1st 100 people can have a tour and the castle is located at 1315 Scenic Rd in Fort Payne On Saturday, June 14 Randy Owen will be hosting Fandemonium On The Farm.

Construction is continuing on the Guntersville home for wounded warrior Corey Garmon. In July 2012, Garmon lost both of his legs below the knee while serving in Afghanistan. Anyone that would like to help with finishing the project or make a donation can call Mike Fitzpatrick at (502) 803-5499.

According to DeKalb County Sheriff Jimmy Harris, his office recently made several drug related arrests, including a 31-yearold man from the Ider area.

Authorities arrested Timothy Brandon Richards, after Drug Task Force agents went to a residence on County Road 768 near Ider to serve a warrant.

Agents discovered Richards in the residence with a meth lab ready to start. A subsequent search of the residence turned up meth and drug paraphernalia.

A small child was removed from the residence and placed with family members by Department of Human Resource workers.

According to Harris, Richards was charged with Unlawful Manufacture of Controlled Substance 1st, Unlawful Possession of Controlled Substance, and Unlawful Possession of Drug Paraphernalia.

As of press, time Richards was in the DeKalb County Detention Center awaiting bond.

Forever Wild set to meet in Guntersville The Board of Trustees of the Alabama Forever Wild Land Trust will hold its second quarterly meeting on June 19, 2014, at Lake Guntersville State Park, 1155 Lodge Drive, Guntersville, Ala. The meeting will begin at 10 a.m., and will be held in the Lodge’s Goldenrod Room.

At this meeting, Forever Wild program activities and tract assessments will be updated. This meeting will also serve as a public hearing for any individual who would like to make comments concerning the program.

By Tim Eberhart, executive director Rainsville Chamber of Commerce Back in 1985, I had a co-worker who would greet me every single day with the same piercing question. As I walked into the small warehouse in downtown Trussville, Alabama each weekday morning, the slender man about 40 years my elder would emphatically inquire, “Mr. Eberhart, is anyone directly or indirectly after us?”

“No,” I would answer. “Not that I’m aware of.”

“Then,” he would proclaim with glee, “it’s going to be a good day!”

In tribute to that old fellow, I would like to ask all the local readers of this column a similar question. Does your shopping and dining habits directly or indirectly benefit the local economy?

It’s an easy question to answer. But, it’s a question we too easily forget to ask ourselves before making our daily or weekly shopping and dining decisions.

There are many layers of direct and indirect benefits for the local economy when your shopping dollars are spent locally. In sharp contrast, it’s hard to find even one benefit for our local economy when your shopping dollars are spent in say Alpharetta, Georgia or Murfreesboro, Tennessee. I have nothing against Alpharetta or Murfreesboro. They have outstanding schools, infrastructure, and recreational and cultural opportunities thanks partly to shoppers from northeast Alabama. But, if you totally stopped supporting their local economies in favor of your own, they wouldn’t even miss you.

Which brings me to my point. Our member merchants– and everyone who has a stake in the local economy–do miss you when you go elsewhere. That’s why we must try to convince you to shop and dine locally at every opportunity.

With this in mind, allow me to remind you to shop local for last-minute Father's Day gifts, and for all your summer wedding and shower gifts. A surprising number of businesses in Rainsville can fulfill your needs in those areas.

In business news, Danali’s Deli and Yo-Moe Yogurt have been combined into one. Watch for some big news later this summer over there at 124 McCurdy Avenue South.

The Marshall County Manufacturers Association Golf Tournament will be held on June 20 at 11:00 a.m. at Gunter’s Landing. The proceeds from the event are used to support workforce development in Marshall County, Junior Achievement of Marshall County, the Jon Szucs Scholarship program, and Marshall Technical School/ Snead State skills training program. Column by Matt Silvestro • Ledger Correspondent There is one sport that isn't huge in the south. That’s right folks, it’s Hockey!

Hockey is such an amazing sport and is so much fun to watch. This game is fast paced and is just exciting overall.

The New York Rangers are currently competing for the cup and I have really gotten into the excitement. Even if they don't win it all, I have definitely become a hockey fan.

It seems like all games are back and forth and the momentum can shift so quickly, which really keeps you interested at all times. It's hard to even get up for a second because you might miss a score or maybe even two.

One thing that really keeps me interested is the power play. A power play occurs when the opposing team commits a penalty and they end up having to put one of their players in the penalty box for two minutes. This is when the other team can potentially score since they have the advantage.

There is so much that goes into this game, but I encourage everyone to turn the TV on and watch at least one game, you might find a new sport that you will love.

Sports Hall of Fame inducts Class of 2014 Crossville High School head boys basketball coach Tracy Hulgan will be leaving the Lions the program after guiding his alma mater for the past 23 years. Hulgan, who led the Lions to 407 wins during his time as coach, has reportedly taken over as the new head basketball coach at Arab High School. Hulgan will be replacing Knights coach Faron Key, who left Arab for a coaching job at Hartselle.

I think most people have a hard time comprehending anything about eternity, including myself. It is so easy to relate everything to time, thus we sing about heaven and say, “When we’ve been there ten thousand years….” No, I am not against the song “Amazing Grace” that contains these words, in fact, I love the song. My point is that we will not be counting years in eternity, for there are none! If the New Jerusalem has no night, as Revelation 22:5 says, then how would anyone count days?

Genesis chapter one speaks of the evening and morning of the six days of creation, but nobody will speak such language in heaven.

Men write according to their experience on earth, where time marks everything we do.

The Seiko watch is a good timepiece; I own a couple of them, but they will not be needed in heaven! When it comes to thinking like God thinks, we all have trouble! The Bible, however, will help us to think somewhat like God; the Spirit of God will help us even more, because believers are said to have the mind of Christ in I Corinthians 2:16.

Now let’s take a look at our eternal God from Ecclesiastes 3:14-15: “I know that, whatsoever God doeth, it shall be for ever: nothing can be put to it, nor any thing taken

from it: and God doeth it, that men should fear before Him. That which hath been is now; and that which is to be hath already been; and God requireth that which is past.”

The words “past, present and future” are useful to us, but God does not need them, for He inhabits eternity. God has no past, present or future, since He forever inhabits all eternity. No, we cannot comprehend that, but we do not have to; we only need to believe it as truth. Our verses show us that God does things on the eternal scale, thus nothing can be added to or taken from what God has determined to do.

Yes, human decisions are included in God’s plan, but He “prefigured” all of our decisions before we were ever created, for He has forever known all things! God does not make us do what we do, but He did know beforehand what we would do. God does His works to produce the fear of God in men. This fear is a holy reverence for God, so that we want to obey Him. Whatever has been is still present with God, and what is yet to come, as we see it, has already happened in God’s way of seeing all things at one time. God requires an accounting for what is past to us, for it is still present with Him, except for what He has forgiven!

Three arrested for drugs On Thursday, June 5 the Fort Payne Police Department received a Loud Noise Complaint and possibly Underage Drinking at North Pointe Apartment Complex B Building.

When officer’s investigated the complaint they found a substantial amount of Controlled Sammy Edward Simpson Substances in plain sight.

Occupants of the apartment were later identified as Sammy Edward Simpson, age 35 of Fort Payne, Chrystal Dawn Cook, age 39 of Fort Payne, and Brandy Nicole Rothell, age 30 of Fort Payne. All three were Chrystal Cook charged with Possession of Controlled Substance and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia.

These arrests were made possible due to the thorough observation of Lt. Nick Brown assisted by Officer Adam Facteau.

Also assisting with the arrest was Dekalb County Drug Task Force.

According to the State Fire Marshall Ed Paulk, 54 of the 61 deaths were preventable.
