Several areas near downtown Albertville, as well as in some other locations around North Alabama, were damaged last week in what some weather officials have dubbed as a possible microburst. The winds toppled trees, power lines and traffic lights. It also damaged local businesses and forced Albertville’s Bee Gees Restaurant to close last Friday, August 8.

Single game tickets for five Jacksonville State University home football games are now on sale. Season tickets are also still available for purchase, including tickets in the Stadium Club Level. All previous season ticket holders are encouraged to

renew their 2013 season tickets before all tickets will be released by Friday, August 15, at 5 p.m. Football tickets can be purchased online via JSUGamecockSports.com or by calling the JSU Athletic Ticket Office at 256-782-8499.

JSU advanced to the NCAA Quarterfinals and posted an 11-4 overall record and was ranked No. 10 in the final The Sports Network football poll. JSU also set 49 school records, 13 OVC records and three NCAA records during the 2013 season.

The Gamecocks first home game will rekindle an old rivalry when former Gulf South Conference rival West Alabama comes to Burgess Snow Field for JSU's home opener on Sept. 20. It will be the 44th meeting between the two schools.

The 2014 football season will kick off in a couple of weeks and players are already getting excited about the new season. Collinsville Senior Tanner Nelson is ready to help lead the Panthers when they kick off the season on August 29 in a home match-up against Cedar Bluff. The Panthers will be competing in Class 2A this season.
