Several local high schools will have new coaches next season. Below are a few of the recent coaching changes. CROSSVILLE - Kirk Jonus has been hired as the Lions head basketball coach. Donny Stevens will be an assistant football coach. Audra Noogin will help with the volleyball program. SYLVANIA - Mark Dobbs is the girls basketball coach for the Lady Rams. DOUGLAS - Brett Self will coach boys basketball.

By Brandon K. Pierce Publisher A father and his son have been arrested on robbery and kidnapping charges. According to DeKalb County Sheriff Jimmy Harris, Bobby Lynn Dowdy Sr, 55 and Bobby Lynn Dowdy Jr., 35, both of Crossville, were arrested by investigators and Drug Task Force agents without incident at a home on County Road 9 near Crossville. Both men are accused of taking another man at gunpoint, and taking his cash and other valuables while they drove around. The victim stated he thought he was going to be
killed until the suspects told him what he could do to redeem himself to them. The victim was released later and continually threatened by the suspects. As of press time, both Dowdy and his son are in the DeKalb County Detention Center awaiting bond on charges of Robbery 1st and Kidnapping 2nd.
“I’m glad this didn’t turn into a homicide because after looking at the information we have now it looks like it got pretty close,” commented Sheriff Harris. “I expect additional charges when this goes to the grand jury. I’m glad this young man is safe after this ordeal.”
