The NACC Fishing Team has a duo headed to the upcoming 2014 Carhartt Bassmaster College Series National Championship. Hayden Tilley, of Ider, and Alex Clayton, of Dutton, are going to be facing off against 83 other college teams from across the nation. Northeast will be the only community college represented. Tilley and Clayton will be competing to finish inside the top four teams at the National Championship. If they make the top four, they will be held over after the tournament to compete in the Classic Bracket beginning immediately the next day. The Classic Bracket will be Aug. 3-5 The duo will fish the National Championship on July 31 to Aug 2 at the Chatuge Reservoir in Hiawassee, Ga.
Champions Headed to World Series The Xtreme 03 10U Girls Softball Travel Team won the USSSA Championship on June 29 in Cullman. The girls were undefeated during the 3 day tournament of 26 teams, allowing only 9 runs and scoring 62 in 8 games. Coaches: Kevin Johnson, Brandon Stewart and Joel Murdock with team members: Alivia Hatch #23, Gracey Johnson #12, McKinley Johnson #3, Kayley Kirk #4, Haley Lisenbee #14, Chloe Murdock #8, Hayden Petus #1, Alexis Powell #10, Elaine Puckett #31, Lilly Rowell #2, Abby Stewart #24, Emma Terrel #1. Xtreme 03 will be headed to the USSSA World Series in Gulf Shores to compete later in July.
By Brandon K. Pierce Publisher On the evening of July 5, 2014 authorities responded to a call that an intoxicated female was stealing items from a store at Hammonds Crossroads. According to DeKalb County Sheriff Jimmy Harris, officers found Christine Saunders, 45 of Fyffe, intoxicated with items from the store on her person. “Saunders had a horse tied up outside of the store that we believe she was riding,” said Harris. “We recovered 3 cans of Keystone light in a Walmart bag tied on the saddle horn. The horse was later returned to the owner who did not want to press charges.” The DeKalb County Sheriff’s Office is working
Christine Saunders with the store owner on other charges. Saunders was arrested and charged with Public Intoxication, Illegal Possession of a Prohibited Beverage and was transported to the DeKalb County Detention center.
