The Sports Ledger is excited to announce that effective July 1, 2014 the current print edition will be available exclusively online in our new E-Edition at www.thesportsledger.com.

The online E-Edition will feature color, search functions and advertising. The E-Edition will initially look like this issue and will be available for current and future paid subscribers.

Jacksonville State's Eli Jenkins has earned a spot on the 2014 CFPA Quarterback Award Watch List. The initial watch list includes 36 returning performers, vying for the top quarterback award in the Football Championship Subdivision. All players are eligible for awards at their respective positions; players are not preemptively eliminated from consideration. Jenkins was instrumental in leading JSU to an 11-4 record a year ago as the Gamecocks posted two FCS Playoff wins before falling in the Quarterfinals at Eastern Washington. Jax State had the most prolific offense in school history, setting a total of 49 school records, 13 Ohio Valley Conference records and three NCAA records. Jenkins earned freshman All-American honors after throwing for 887 yards and running for 953 more, while finishing second on the team with 11 touchdowns in 2013. Last season, Florida State quarterback Jameis Winston earned the CFPA National Performer of the Year Trophy.

The Sports Ledger will still be offering some free content online, but in order to access and read the EEdition users will need a password and current paid subscription.

Man arrested for Burglary Authorities have a man in custody in connection with a burglary in the Fyffe area. According to DeKalb County Sheriff Jimmy Harris, Mark Anthony Smith, 39 of Scottsboro, has been arrested for the burglary. After investigators were able to determine The Ledger, Brandon K. Pierce Smith was the suspect, warrants were obtained in DeKalb County. Smith was A new McDonald’s opened in Henagar on Thursday, June 19, 2014. The fast arrested by the Scottsboro food chain store features what management called the “latest and greatest” Police Department and was in everything. The new restaurant now gives DeKalb County a total of three charged with Burglary 3rd and Theft of Property 2nd. McDonald’s. The others are located in Rainsville and Fort Payne.
