FLEXIBLE HIRE PERIODS

One Day: This is the rate for the First Day of hire between the hours of 00:01 - 24:00.

+ Day: This is the rate for an additional day of hire between the hours of 00:01 - 00:00 or thereafter the first day or week.

Weekend: Reduced rate from late Friday afternoon to early Monday morning.

Weekly: The maximum rate for each 7 day period.

We have developed a fully online order facility from product selection to secure payment. Available 24/7 at brandonhirestation.com

PAYMENT CHOICE

Monthly Credit Account: If you wish to hire frequently and would like the convenience of a monthly credit account, just complete the appropriate application form online. Your account will be up and running within 24 hours (subject to status).

Purchase Cards: We accept company purchase cards from all major banks.

Debit or Credit Cards: For advance payment we ask for a 2-week deposit and 2 forms of personal identification. Your deposit is refunded on return of equipment. All major cards accepted. For longterm hires, charges are made at 2-week intervals.

Should you require tools and equipment outside these hours we can open or deliver your hire 24/7 under formal agreement We can take orders 24/7 online.

DELIVERY

For extra convenience, you can have your equipment delivered and/or collected. A delivery charge may apply and will vary according to distance from our nearest branch. Should you decide to collect the equipment, we can advise on suitable vehicle types. Our vehicles are CrossRail compliant and accredited to FORS Gold and CLOCS. Please note that deliveries to the Highlands, Islands and cities with congestion charges may have additional costs applied.

ON SITE ‘BRANCH’

Our onsite branch can be tailored to meet customer specific requirements. All equipment is checked and inspected regularly in accordance with particular site requirements and, where relevant, lifting regulations including LOLER and PUWER. The onsite branch will be managed by our personnel and is equip with products to suit your individual requirements. This service is ideal for shutdowns and other short term, large products on site.

OUR VEHICLES

Our vehicle fleet is specified to highways Chapter 8 standards as a minimum. Further safety improvements include vigi strobe lights, shoring poles for long loads, reversing sensors and of course are finished in our new eye catching Brandon Hire Station livery.

LYTX

Lytx is a dash cam with a difference. It has an internal and external camera designed so that it only records data you need to see. The event recorder will record harsh vehicle manoeuvres, meaning we can use it to coach and develop our drivers to improve their driving skills and correct poor driving before an accident ever occurs.

FORS

Brandon Hire Station are Gold FORS accredited, demonstrating the importance we place on FORS and the improvements it brings to our fleet and other road users. Through our FORS Gold members we also meet with the requirements set by CLOC’s.

All our HGV’s are built to meet FORS Gold standard which means the equipment listed below is added to the vehicles. This enhances the level of safety to pedestrians and other road users but also gives our driver’s confidence in being legal and compliant on the road and in their ability to see and avoid objects that otherwise may not have been able to.

As the UK’s Tool and Equipment Specialist, the customer is at the heart of our operation and providing great customer service is our top priority.

We cannot supply all of the equipment that our customers might require –they may have a requirement for equipment that is outside the scope of Brandon Hire Station and the rest of Vp group.

After many years of informal rehire arrangements, in 2017 we conducted a formal review of our rehire arrangements to be able to maximise opportunities with our customers.

This led us to consolidate our rehire partner supply chain and develop formal relationships across a number of product categories.

These product categories are growing year on year. We now work with selected rehire partners, to supply world class brands across a range of specialisms.

All Brandon Hire Station approved partners are formally assessed through a rigorous tender process to ensure they align with our values.

Partners are awarded Tier 1, 2 or 3 status based on who are the most technically and SHEQ compliant, offer a high quality service, provide geographical coverage and offer the most competitive, commercial terms.

Protection against high noise levels. Earplugs are suitable for short-term work. A Specific noise assessment (dB) will be required.

Breathing Masks

General purpose masks to COSHH standard, grades P1, P2 & P3, for low to moderate dust risk and water-based airborne sprays. Respiratory disposable masks with nuisance level odour relief. A Specific air contamination assessment will be required.

Power Breaker RCD

Residual current devices protect from electrical shock. Strongly recommended for electrical equipment used outdoors or in damp conditions. This symbol reminds you to use an RCD power breaker at all times. RCDs are also available to hire.

Transport Symbols

If you are collecting equipment, weights are shown in kilograms and are supported by the symbols indicating the type of vehicle needed. Some products will require delivery and cannot be collected from the store.

Anti-Vibration Technology

This equipment is fitted with antivibration technology.

VVibration Caution

This equipment could cause vibration injury even when used for a short period. Specific assessment will be required.

Protective Clothing

Semi-durable polypropylene material protects clothing from accidental splashing and dirt. High visibility clothing to be used at night, dry/wet suits and chainsaw suits.

Welding Mask

Welding masks or goggles are recommended and with certain products, included with the equipment.

Safety Hooks

Ensure safety catches are engaged and load chains/cables are untangled and hang freely.

Vertical Lifting

Use only for vertical lifts. Position or suspend equipment from a safe point to take weight of load and equipment.

Angle Lifting

Use at any angle for lifting, pulling or dragging. Anchor to a secure point able to take load force applied. Allow for contact friction if dragging.

Stable Load

Ensure load is balanced and personnel stand clear. Attach “tag” lines to control rotation. Never leave equipment unattended. Ensure unobstructed landing site accepts equipment plus load in size and weight.

Height Safety

WORKING AT HEIGHT REGULATIONS

The implementation of The Work at Height Regulations 2005 drew together existing legislation into a single set of regulations, designed to improve the safety of those who work at height.

THE BASIC ELEMENTS OF THE REGULATIONS ARE:

Work at height is eliminated where possible.

Where elimination is not possible, fall prevention measures are in place such as guard rails, scaffolding and safe working platforms.

Where fixed measures are not possible, fall arrest systems are in place such as safety harnesses as well as other Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).

The appropriate equipment has been selected and provided, and that it is well maintained, regularly inspected and properly used.

Companies know how to choose suitable contractors and monitor their work while they are on site.

Tower Assembly Methods

A safe assembly method should always be followed when erecting towers. There are two main methods - the 3T (Through the Trap) or Advanced Guardrail Method. These have been recommended by PASMA (Prefabricated Access Suppliers’ and Manufacturers’ Association), and also been approved with the HSE (Health and Safety Executive). Brandon Hire Station has instructions and guides on each of these methods.

3T METHOD (THROUGH THE TRAP)

This method is the most common form. It is designed so the individual does not stand on an unguarded platform, as the tower is built. The individual is positioned within the trap door of the platform, whilst guardrails are removed or added. The individual is fully protected from risk of fall.

PAS 250:2012, THE FIRST SPECIFICATION FOR ONEPERSON LOW-LEVEL WORK PLATFORMS IS TRANSITIONING TO BS 8620:2016

Q: Are my PAS 250 podiums now obsolete?

No, you can keep using PAS 250 podiums, there is no need to change product immediately.

Q: What is the difference between PAS 250 specification and BS 8620 standard? BS 8620 builds on the work started with PAS 250; the transition to BS 8620 includes a dimensional change to side protection and a change to two tests.

Q: My current podium fleet does not contain PAS 250 approved product, shall I wait for BS 8620?

PASMA’s advice is if your current fleet includes non-compliant stock you should consider upgrading these to PAS 250 compliant product immediately. PAS 250 approved podiums meet benchmark standards set for strength, access, stability and rigidity and provide an acceptable level of protection for product users. BS 8620 product should start to be available by April 2017, and we would expect users to update their procurement policies once BS 8620 product is available – PAS 250 product is not obsolete and is preferential to any non-compliant product.

Q: Should I replace my PAS 250 podiums once BS 8620 product is available?

ADVANCED GUARDRAIL METHOD

This method ensures the individual is always guarded from the risk of fall. Special guardrail units are positioned ahead of the individual erecting the tower, within the build.

PASMA’s advice for users is that they do not need to stop using PAS 250 compliant products immediately, but when these products are replaced, they should be replaced with BS 8620 type approved products.

Compact dimensions allow easy transportation and storage (the DELTADECK® can be transported in the boot of most cars). Lightweight and simple to assemble and dismantle, the DELTADECK® can be accessed from either end of the platform. Full and correct height guardrails are automatically erected at all platform height settings.

Universally known for their reliability and durability, our Ground Protection Mats help prevent any damage that may be incurred by the rubber excavator tracks.

MINI EXCAVATORS

Our Mini Excavators have less than a 1 metre width which allows them to squeeze through the tightest space and are the perfect partner for the narrow dumper. These machines are only available to hire on account or with JCB short term plant insurance.

NARROW DUMPER / SKIP LOADER

The 4 wheel drive Narrow Dumper / Skip Loader has a high discharge skip enabling you to tip straight into skips, containers and lorries.

The narrow 1 metre width allows it to squeeze through the tightest space and is the perfect partner for the mini excavator. The dumper also has high ground clearance to help the machine deal with harsh working environments. This coupled with an easy, low maintenance design helps make our dumper incredibly easy to use.

Brandon Hire Station recommends JCB and works only with JCB for the provision of insurance to our customers. If you do not have insurance we can not hire these items to non account holders.

SHORT-TERM PLANT INSURANCE

Developed by JCB Insurance, get immediate cover when it’s needed. Short-term hired-in plant insurance is underwritten by Royal & Sun Alliance and provides on-line cover for up to 30 days. The policy has been specifically designed to meet the needs of the occasional hirer with features including payment direct to the plant owner in the event of a loss to streamline the claims process and minimise possible friction.

GUIDELINES

Follow our G.E.T L.O.W guidelines to help reduce the risk of exposure to vibration.

GRIP: Do not exert too much grip pressure when holding the tool.

EQUIPMENT: Ensure the equipment is maintained and in good working order with a valid test record.

TASK: Make sure the tool you select is suitable for the task it is to be used in.

LOOK: Look out for specially designed low vibration tools.

OPERATE: Do not operate the tools with blunt attachments. Points, chisels and drill bits must be kept sharp.

WORKWEAR: Use protective clothing, especially on the hands to keep them warm. This will ensure good blood circulation.

EXPOSURE POINTS SYSTEM AND READY-RECKONER

The table right is a ‘ready reckoner’ for calculating daily vibration exposures. All you need is the vibration magnitude (level) and exposure time. The readyreckoner covers a range of vibration magnitudes up to 40 m/s2 and a range of exposure times up to 10 hours.

The exposures for different combinations of vibration magnitude and exposure time are given in exposure points instead of values in m/s2 A(8). You may find the exposure points easier to work with than the A(8) values:

exposure points change simply with time: twice the exposure time, twice the number of points;

exposure points can be added together, for example where a worker is exposed to two or more different sources of vibration in a day;

the exposure action value (2.5 m/s2 A(8)) is equal to 100 points;

the exposure limit value (5 m/s2 A(8)) is equal to 400 points.

Using the ready-reckoner

1. Find the vibration magnitude (level) for the tool or process (or the nearest value) on the grey scale on the left of the table.

2. Find the exposure time (or the nearest value) on the grey scale across the bottom of the table.

3. Find the value in the table that lines up with the magnitude and time. The illustration shows how it works for a magnitude of 5 m/s2 and an exposure time of 3 hours: in this case the exposure corresponds to 150 points.

The colour of the square containing the exposure points value tells you whether the exposure exceeds, or is likely to exceed, the exposure action or limit value:

IT IS THE RESPONSIBILITY OF THE EMPLOYER TO IDENTIFY THE HAZARDS OF THE APPLICATION AND TAKE THE APPROPRIATE ACTION TO PROTECT THEIR EMPLOYEES.

Dust is no longer something that can be swept under the carpet; it is a real and ever present danger within the construction industry and other working environments where airborne dust can occur.

Dust is generated by many processes on and around construction sites and workshops. These processes include drilling, cutting, sanding grinding chasing and breaking.

Think, some processes can produce over 15kg of inhalable dust per hour.

Depending on the type of dust that you are being exposed to, the concentration and exposure time, inhaling dust may lead to serious long term and life threatening diseases such as cancer. Exposure to dust may not affect the operator of the product, however it can affect those working in close proximity.

DON’T FORGET:

Could you use a different method to cut the material or use a different type of material?

Which system should I use to cut the material e.g. if using a disc cutter ensure that a water tank is used?

Is your extraction or suppression system working correctly?

Have you been issued with the correct type of respiratory protection? Is it clean? Does it fit correctly?

How will you clean the dust from the work area – vacuum system or wash down?

It is simpler, and cheaper, to stop dust and other irritants becoming airborne rather than controlling dust once it is in the air. Once dust is in the air, it’s not only the dust you can see, it’s also the dust you can’t see that’s a problem. The dust particles that can get deep into the lungs are not usually visible to the naked eye and often we don’t even know they are there.

THE FACTS

Health and Safety Executive (HSE) estimates around 38,000 individuals suffering breathing and lung problems in the UK. There are around 8,000 deaths per year as a result of occupational cancer. Protect yourself, don’t ignore dust.

Inhalable dust: This is airborne particles that are breathed into the airways and deposited in the respiratory tract. These particles are usually cleared by mucus.

Respirable dust: This refers to the finer particles that penetrate deep in to the lungs. Respirable Crystalline Silica (RCS) can cause scar tissue of the lung which in turn leads to silicosis.

Many materials used throughout the construction industry contains quartz. Exposure to these dust particles can cause serious health issues, and so EU member states have developed exposure limits for different types of dust and laws to protect the operator.

WHAT IS THE LEGAL REQUIREMENT?

Under the Control of Substances Hazardous to Health Regulations 2002 (COSHH) employers must control risks to employees’ health arising from work activities, meaning that they need to ensure exposure to dust is kept well below the Workplace Exposure Limits (WELs).

Smart and stylish this is a very effective personal heater. Fume free producing instant localised heat. Weight 14.3kg. Projects heat 6m with anti-glare halogen bulbs. Evaporative coolers reduce the temperature of the air by natural evaporation, in the process increasing relative humidity. How It Works: Water is drawn from a reservoir within the machine, that will require periodic refilling, and is pumped through a filter, air from the room is pulled in to the cooler through the filter, the evaporation process cools the air that is then blown in to the room. Evaporative coolers require a ready supply of fresh air.
