The Santa Clara Valley Water District might finally get back from board member Rebecca Eisenberg thousands of pages of investigation reports, following an appellate court ruling in the case. The California Sixth District Court of Appeal on Dec. 31 upheld a lower court decision that ordered Eisenberg to hand over the documents. Palo Alto is critiquing an application from the owners of Town and Country Village to build seven-story buildings behind the shopping center, asking the developer to be more specific about the number of affordable units that will be available and where traffic will flow around the site.

Sergey Brin, the billionaire co-founder of Google, has fled California over the prospect of voters approving a wealth tax in the November election. The move comes days after Larry Page, his co-founder, left the state. Page had been a resident of Palo Alto. Brin had previously said his residence was in Los AlBRIN tos Hills. The New York Times said Brin moved more than a dozen entities out of the state in the final days of last year. The tax would apply to billionaires living in the state on Jan. 1. Brin, 52, is the world’s fourth richest

person thanks to his 6% stake in Alphabet, Google’s parent company. He is worth an estimated $259 billion. Momentum is building in California for a one-time 5% wealth tax on anyone with a net worth of more than $1 billion. This would cost Brin around $13 billion. The SEIU-United Healthcare Workers union is gathering signatures to put the tax on the ballot in November. The Times says Brin is house hunting in Miami, which has been a favorite destination for tech billionaires fleeing California. Page has bought two Miami mansions. He spent a combined $173.4 million on the properties in the exclusive beachfront Coconut Grove neighborhood.

But she said only the executive summary of each was labeled “confidential.” She said the district has the reports in a digital format and can print out more copies if it wants to. She said she offered to pay for the printing costs of the copies she took, and pointed out that she had made notes on them. Sugars hidden in EAT LOCAL! ‘all natural’ foods

Many consumers feel pride in avoiding the glazed pastries in the supermarket and instead opting for “all natural” granola that comes packed with extra protein. Same goes for low-fat yogurts “made with real fruit,” organic plantbased milks and bottled “superfood” smoothies. Buyer beware: Healthy grocery buzzwords like those often cover up an unhealthy amount of sugar. Added sugars are difficult to quickly spot because many companies use clever marketing to distract consumers, said Nicole Avena, a professor of neuroscience and psychiatry at Mount Sinai Medical School and Princeton University who has studied added sugars. Here’s how to spot hidden sugars and what to do about it.
