Firefighters have rescued a dog from the bay near Cooley Landing in East Palo Alto. A witness called 911 to report the dog running into the water and swimming far out from shore on Thursday, according to Deputy Fire Chief Dan Coyle of the Menlo Park Fire Protection District. A firefighter spotted the dog using binoculars and prepared a boat for launched while a drone pinpointed the dog’s exact location, Coyle said. The boat crew pulled the dog from the water and returned the dog to the shore, Coyle said. The dog had sustained a cut on its cheek from seagulls while in the water but was otherwise safe, Coyle said. The dog, which had been missing since July 4, was reunited with his family.
