The Ravenwswood School Board last night held its first meeting to discuss removing Cesar Chavez from its middle school, and debated the merits of naming the school after a person again.
From middle school’s name
The East Palo Alto school district is one of many agencies in the state grappling with renaming something meant to honor the late labor leader after it was reported that Chavez had raped and sexually abused girls and women during his days building a major farmworker labor rights movement in the 1960s in California’s agricultural heartland. Among those who accused him was Dolores Huerta, who co-led the movement that eventually became the United Farm Workers.
Ravenswood board member Laura Nunez said yesterday that there is a risk in renaming the school after a person because everyone is flawed. The best name that represents all the students the school serves is Ravenswood Middle School, she said.

Board vice president Mele Latu said this is a tough time for the community, and renaming the school is a chance to revamp it to represent who they are now. No vote was taken last night, as the

Commission OKs downtown bars
BY BRADEN CARTWRIGHT Daily Post Staff Writer
The Planning and Transportation Commission has endorsed the idea of allowing bars in Palo Alto but is unsure about medical offices that have retail, like an optometrist who sells glasses.
“There’s a desire to increase the vibrancy and make things less sleepy,” Commissioner Bryna Chang said on Wednesday.
Commissioner Bart Hechtman said Palo Alto already has wine bars, but they’re technically classified as restau-
rants. These establishments must have at least half of their sales come from food, but the city doesn’t check their receipts unless there’s a complaint, Assistant Planning Director Jennifer Armer said. The city is working to relax its

Harry Benjamin Bremond
Harry Bremond passed away on December 8, 2025 at the age of 91. Harry was born in Austin, Texas, on September 19, 1934, the son of Velma White Bremond & Walter Bremond, Sr. As a child, he moved with his mother and older brother to San Francisco where he grew up in public housing projects. Harry graduated from Commerce High School in 1951 and earned a B.A. in business with San Francisco State University in 1955 before enlisting in the US Army from 1955 to 1957.
Following his military service, he returned to San Francisco State for graduate school, receiving a master’s degree in business in 1958. He then worked at PG&E as an accountant and started law school at night at the University of San Francisco School of Law, earning an LL.B in 1962 as the second ever black USF graduate.
After initially relocating to San Jose, Harry moved to East Palo Alto, where he ended up hanging his own shingle, handling estate, criminal, and domestic law matters. He met Congressman Pete McCloskey through the Palo Alto Bar Association and Pete introduced him to John Wilson and Roger Mosher. Harry ultimately joined McCloskey Wilson and Mosher on Welch Road — which would eventually evolve into Wilson Sonsini Goodrich & Rosati — and the rest is history.
As one of the very first Black lawyers practicing in the San Francisco Bay Area, Harry helped shape the growth of Silicon Valley. In 1967, he joined what is now Wilson Sonsini — then a small local outfit with only a handful of attorneys — in Palo Alto. His practice focused on general commercial litigation with an emphasis on real estate, employment, insurance coverage and other business contract issues for a wide variety of clients.
During Harry’s 44 years at Wilson Sonsini, perhaps his most significant achievement was his participation in the founding and leadership of the firm’s pro bono practice — and the pro bono movement within law firms generally. He demonstrated a bold commitment to helping the underserved gain access to justice. Harry was a founding member of the firm’s Pro Bono Committee and a steadfast advocate for civil rights, recognized by the Lawyers’ Committee for Civil Rights Under Law, the Law Foundation of Silicon Valley, the Equal Justice Society, and the Charles Houston Bar Association, among numerous others. Beyond these efforts, Harry also mentored generations of young lawyers even after his retirement. For example, Harry would annually host dinners for young Wilson Sonsini associates. Harry’s actions throughout his life demonstrated his spirit of service and passion for both giving back and paying forward. He freely shared his time, wisdom, and signature kindness and candor with many regardless of background. Harry was widely known, respected, and regarded throughout the legal community and beyond.
As senior and founding partner Larry Sonsini shared, “Harry was a key advisor and a very good friend. His spirit and energy captured our imagination back in 1967, and as we were starting to formalize the firm, I asked that he’d be part of our team and everyone agreed. He was someone I often went to for a sanity check — in fact, we went to lunch several times a week to talk about the culture of the firm we wanted to build. I will always be grateful for Harry’s council, and especially for his friendship, candor, and commitment to being the best we could be.”
In late 2024, the Stanford center for racial justice launched the Harry Bremond – Wilson Sonsini foundation student fellowship, which offers Stanford law students the opportunity to immerse themselves in civil rights work through a wide range of impactful opportunities.
In November 2024, over 200 individuals attended a celebration of Harry and the fellowship at the Stanford law school. In addition, in 2020 Wilson Sonsini created the Harry Bremond Award to honor our attorneys who have consistently upheld Harry ‘s excellence in character, leadership, and service to the community.
Harry is survived by his beloved wife of 34 years, Peggy Woodford Forbes, his daughter, Candace Bremond and his grandchildren from his predeceased daughter, Stephanie Bremond (Gascoigne). Also, he is survived by his stepdaughters Maya Forbes (Wally Wolodarsky), China Forbes and their children. He was predeceased by his ex-wife, Faye Crawford Bremond and his brother, Walter Bremond Jr.
Harry’s laugh was infectious. Yet, he was a bottom line kind of guy. He was devoted to his family and friends. Harry loved jazz and chamber music. He was quite an athlete and enjoyed tennis and skiing. In his younger days, both he and his brother Walter played football at San Francisco State, where he was a halfback nicknamed “Harry the Horse.” He was a big fan of the Warriors and the 49ers.
Harry spent most of his adult life on the Peninsula; he lived in Atherton and Menlo Park, settling with Peggy for 30+ years in Los Altos Hills, California. In 2023, they moved to Palo Alto where he passed away.
Harry’s life was rich in love, family, purpose, joy, and he will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
A celebration of life was held in February at the Museum of The African Diaspora (MoAD) in San Francisco. September 19, 1934 – December 8, 2025
Agency clears up backlog of audits
BY BRADEN CARTWRIGHT Daily Post Staff Writer
An agency that’s trying to stop flooding from the San Francisquito Creek caught up on five years of audits yesterday.
Auditors said Finance and Administration Manager Miyko Harris-Parker is overworked, and the agency needs more IT support, according to Valley Water board member Nai Hsueh.
“It’s probably not a sustainable longterm situation,” Hsueh said at yesterday’s meeting.
Technical troubles
Executive Director Margaret Bruce wasn’t available for an interview this week to talk about why the agency fell behind on audits, which were approved yesterday going back to 2019.
“We have been beset by technical and IT difficulties that would blow your mind,” Bruce said at a meeting in December 2024.
The agency brought in IT support in 2020, started updating its laptops regularly in 2021, hired part-time administrative help in 2023, moved its accounts to more secure banks in 2024 and updated its accounting software in 2025, Bruce told the board yesterday.
“Going forward, audits will be on schedule,” she said.
Accrual error
Accountant Nancy Flynn said she found an error in the agency’s records related to accrued vacation. Fixing the error resulted in a $22,000 increase in expenses across the five audits, but the audits were clean overall, Flynn said.
Harris-Parker and Bruce are two of four employees at the San Francisquito Creek Joint Powers Authority, along with two project managers.
The creek authority formed after a flood in 1998 damaged hundreds of homes in Palo Alto, East Palo Alto and Menlo Park.

A management analyst for the San Mateo County Assessor’s Office is suing the county, including a candidate for the elected head of the office, alleging a hostile work environment.
Alicia Garcia, 41, of Redwood City, said Assessor-Clerk-Recorder Mark Church and Jim Irizarry, who is running to replace his boss in the June election, allowed her manager to ignore and marginalize her for being Hispanic.
She was forced to work long hours without being paid to meet department deadlines, Garcia said in her lawsuit, filed by attorney George Camerlengo in San Mateo County Superior Court. Garcia was excluded from work meetings, lunches and other work activities, according to the suit.
Church and Irizarry never challenged Julieta Fernandez, who was an assistant, when she would “maliciously and publicly demean Garcia, the suit said. Fernandez is Filipino, according to the lawsuit.
Church dismisses claims Garcia’s allegations are completely false and without any basis, Church said. Her allegations were previously heard by the county’s civil service commission and dismissed, according to Church.
“I look forward to our day in court, where these groundless claims will once again be disproved,” Church said.
Garcia said her complaints were ignored by Church and Irizarry, allowing Fernandez to continue to bully and humiliate her for being Hispanic.
In June 2023, Fernandez made Garcia sit in front of a TV screen during a meeting, preventing her from seeing it because the screen was very bright, the suit said. During the meeting, Church asked her questions about the presenta-
tion, but she couldn’t focus or read the data.
“At one point, the glare on my glasses from the screen gave me double vision,” Garcia said.
Alleged ‘exclusion’
That same month, Irizarry told Garcia to sit next to him during a Board of Supervisors meeting to help answer any questions. But Fernandez told Gracia that Church didn’t want her sitting inside the board chambers and that she should sit outside, the suit said. Garcia then received messages that Irizarry was questioning where she was.
“This embarrassing, disruptive exclusion was just one of dozens of similar, arbitrary, and demeaning actions and comments by Mr. Fernandez, supposedly at the direction of Mr. Church, all of which interfered with my ability to perform my job duties,” Garcia wrote.
A co-worker told Garcia that Fernandez wanted to “annihilate” her because she wasn’t Filipino. Fernandez was disruptive, abusive and loud around Garcia’s workstation, according to the suit.
Irizarry ordered Garcia’s workstation to be moved from the first to the third floor of the office at 555 County Center in Redwood City in March 2024. The next month she asked IT Manager Bo Hammil why her computer did not have the programs she needed to do her job. Hammil allegedly told Garcia he was told not to upgrade her computer, according to the suit.
When Garcia complained to supervisors and the HR Department about working long hours without pay, she was retaliated against by being denied promotions, the suit said.
Next steps
The lawsuit was filed in May 2025, but not much has happened in the case, It’s set for a case management conference on June 1.

Tips to deal with allergies
Allergy season can be miserable for tens of millions of Americans when trees, grass and other pollens cause runny noses, itchy eyes, coughing and sneezing.
Where you live, what you’re allergic to and your lifestyle can make a big difference when it comes to the severity of your allergies. Experts say climate change is leading to longer and more intense allergy seasons, but also point out that treatments for seasonal allergies have become more effective over the last decade.
Here are some tips from experts to keep allergy symptoms at bay — maybe even enough to allow you to enjoy the outdoors.
Allergy capitals
The Asthma and Allergy Foundation of America issues an annual ranking of the most challenging cities to live in if you have allergies, based on over-the-counter medicine use, pollen counts and the number of available allergy specialists.
This year, the top five cities are:
Avoiding pollen is key
Pollen is the powdery substance made by seed-producing plants and trees that is part of their reproductive process. Earlier in the spring, tree pollen is the main culprit. After that grasses pollinate, followed by weeds in the late summer and early fall.
The best and first step to controlling allergies is avoiding expo-

sure. Keep the windows in your car and your home closed, even when it’s nice outside.
If you go outside, wearing long sleeves can keep pollen off your skin to help ward off allergic reactions, said Dr. James Baker, an allergist at the University of Michigan.
When you get home, change your clothes and shower daily to ensure all the pollen is off of you — including your hair. If you can’t wash your hair every day, try covering it when you go outside with a hat or scarf. Don’t get in the bed with your outside clothes on, because the pollen will follow.
It’s also useful to rinse your eyes and
nose with saline to remove any pollen, experts said.
How to relieve symptoms
Over-the-counter nasal sprays are among the most effective treatments for seasonal allergies, experts said.
But patients often use them incorrectly, irritating parts of the nose, said Dr. Kathleen May, an allergist at Augusta University in Georgia. She suggested angling the nozzle outward toward your ear rather than up your nose.
Over-the-counter pills like Claritin, Allegra and Zyrtec are helpful, but may not be as effective as quickly since they’re taken by mouth, experts said.

A NEW, NONINVASIVE APPROACH IS transforming women’s sexual health: shockwave therapy. This innovative treatment uses lowintensity sound waves to stimulate blood flow, repair tissue, and restore natural function. These devices are applied to the tissue surface; however, the sound waves travel deep to provide game changing treatment and information about the root cause of symptoms. This helps achieve better outcomes and speed by improving sensitivity, lubrication, and comfort while reducing pain. Unlike medications or invasive procedures, sessions are quick, require no downtime, and support long-term healing. For women experiencing changes at any life stage, this therapy offers a safe, effective path to renewed confidence and intimacy. Call (650) 360-9373 to learn more. Shown in the photo is Exec. Dir. Oscars winners team for ‘The AI Doc’
The idea to make the “definitive” AI documentary was, admittedly, ambitious. But the timeline was downright absurd.
The filmmaking teams behind “Everything Everywhere All At Once” and “Navalny” started talking about a collaboration on the Oscars circuit, thinking perhaps they could finish something in a year. In reality, it would take “The AI Doc: Or How I Became an Apocaloptimist” almost three years for it to reach audiences. The film, co-directed by Daniel Roher and Charlie Tyrell, and co-produced by Daniel Kwan, attempts to zoom out from the daily headlines to give audiences a more evergreen glimpse of what is at stake for humanity as artificial intelligence rapidly evolves.
“The film is a journey of understanding that casts me as sort of a proxy for everyone, as a pea-brain regular person who’s trying to understand what the (expletive) is going on in the world,” Roher told The Associated Press earlier this year in an interview alongside Tyrell.
Their questions were straightforward: What is it? Why is it good? Why is it bad? And what do we need to know?
“And that simple task,” Roher said, “was (expletive) impossible. ”
A Sisyphean task
“Impossible” was a sentiment shared by many who worked on the film, which opens in theaters today. Producer
Diane Becker said it was the most challenging movie she’s ever made, a Sisyphean task where, “literally the minute we started making it, it was out of date.”
But they were emboldened by the urgency of the subject and the idea that what they were making might be not just a primer about an elusive subject, but a necessary, nonpartisan call to action. “The AI Doc” is about something bigger than AI Val Kilmer movies. For Center for Humane Technology co-founder Tristan Harris, it’s about fighting against an “antihuman future.”
“The only thing that would give humanity a shot for not ending in a dystopian or antihuman future would be for us to have collective clarity that we are heading towards that future,” Harris

said. “My hope is that this film is kind of like ‘An Inconvenient Truth’ or ‘The Social Dilemma’ for AI.”
It takes a lot of humans Harris is just one of many voices in the film alongside the likes of OpenAI’s Sam Altman, Anthropic’s Daniela and Dario Amodei and Google DeepMind’s Demis Hassabis. In the end, more than 40 people encompassing a wide range of views and levels of expertise were interviewed on camera, resulting in some 3,300 pages of transcripts. And it was a long journey to get those voices. Three weeks after the 2023 Oscar wins, Ted Tremper, a veteran producer who has worked on “The Daily Show,” sent over 80 emails ask-
ing leaders in the industry to talk. He got six responses. But through time, trust and many off-the-record conversations, those six people helped create a foundation that would eventually lead them to the CEOs. Tremper said the process was not unlike John Nash’s paper-and-red-string-covered office in “A Beautiful Mind.”
“It turns out, it takes a lot of humans to talk about AI,” Becker added.
And those are just the experts in front of the camera. Behind the scenes, there was also a big operation of people synthesizing the information they were receiving and figuring out a way to translate it cinematically. Tyrell said they decided on an anti-digital visual approach, using handmade things — from Roher’s notebook, where he is always drawing — to stop-motion animation.
A catalyst for conversation
The film, Tremper said, assumes “zero knowledge of the subject matter” from audiences going into it. His 78-year-old dad, “who’s never owned a laptop in his life, watched it and understood it,” he said.
And the producers hope that people will make the choice to see it in a theater, or, at least with other people.
“It is entertaining in a theater. It’s cinematic in its own way. It’s not just 40 talking heads. You have an emotional ride with it,” Becker said. “And the best part about it is, the lights go up and you want to have conversation.”

Bill Maher to get Mark Twain Prize
Bill Maher will win the prestigious Mark Twain Prize for American Humor, the Kennedy Center said yesterday, less than a week after the White House forcefully denied that the comedian, who has had a hot-andcold relationship with President Trump, would win it.
“For nearly three decades, the Mark Twain Prize has celebrated some of the greatest minds in comedy,” Roma Daravi, the Kennedy Center’s vice president of public relations, said in a statement. “For even longer, Bill has been influencing American discourse — one politically incorrect joke at a time.”
Maher said in a statement that he “just had the award explained to me, and apparently it’s like an Emmy, except I win.”
White House denial
After The Atlantic reported last week that Maher would win the award, the White House pushed back hard. White House communications director Steven Cheung said on social media that the story was “literally FAKE NEWS.” White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt also called the initial report “fake news.”
An administration official who refused to speak on the record about the award yesterday said the situation changed after further conversations between the Kennedy Center and event organizers.
Prior
winners
The Kennedy Center has presented the award since 1998 as a way to recognize those who have made significant contributions to humor and commentary in the United States. Previous winners include Conan O’Brien, Dave Chappelle, Julia Louis-Dreyfus, David Letterman, Carol Burnett and Tina Fey.
The award will be presented on June 28, just before Trump plans to close the Kennedy Center for renovations expected to last about two years.
Rocky relationship
Maher and the president have long had a fraught relationship.
Before he entered politics, Trump filed a $5 million lawsuit against Maher in 2013 after Maher asked Trump to prove he was not “the spawn of his mother having sex with an orangutan.”
The Trump-Maher relationship exploded again earlier this year, when the president claimed on social media that he wasted time sitting down for a meal with the comedian last year.

Judge may pull DA off Stanford case
BY STEPHANIE LAM Daily Post Correspondent
A Santa Clara County judge said yesterday she is considering removing District Attorney Jeff Rosen from retrying a felony case against five pro-Palestinian activists who vandalized Stanford University’s president’s office on June 5, 2024.
Speaking to a San Jose courtroom, Judge Kelley Paul said she will decide on April 30 whether Rosen’s office will be recused from putting German Gonzalez, Maya Burke, Taylor McCann, Hunter Taylor-Black and Amy Zhai on trial again. The five all took part in breaking into the office to demand the university divest from companies aiding Israel’s military in Gaza.
Deadlocked jury
The trial to prosecute the five with felony vandalism and conspiracy charges began on Jan. 9 and ended on Feb. 13, with jurors divided 8-4 for guilt on the conspiracy and 9-3 for guilt on the vandalism.
3 / 31 /26
Following the verdict, Rosen said he would push for a retrial to have the five take responsibility for an estimated $300,000 in damages they had caused the university in 2024.
But in a Feb. 25 motion, Singh argued that Rosen used the prosecution to solicit campaign donations on his website, including posting the donation button on the same webpage he accused the five of “anti-Semitism.”
Singh also writes that Rosen published a YouTube video where he said he was going to “Fight for Israel” and described the five as “un-American.”
More time allowed
Judge Paul was expected to make the recusal decision yesterday, but instead ruled to allow the defense more time to obtain records and documents related to their case. Singh said the defense wants to get fundraising-related information, including Rosen’s donor list and finances from a December fundraiser.
The case will continue on Thursday, April 30 at 1:30 p.m.

permitting rules in an attempt to fill first-floor vacancies around downtown and California Avenue.
The vacancy rate was 5.5% on California Avenue and 13.5% on University Avenue at the end of 2025, Economic Development Manager Alex Andrade said.
Harder to fill large spaces
“With University Avenue, there are some spaces on the ground floor that tend to be difficult to occupy because they’re larger,” Andrade said. “Flexibility is definitely the key moving forward.”
Council’s Economic Development Committee supported allowing bars at a Jan. 22 meeting.
“We have to try to balance having evening vitality, including for younger people, without having it be an over-the-top scene in our downtown,” Councilman Pat Burt said at the time.
Bars still wouldn’t be allowed in neighborhood shopping centers like Midtown, Armer said.
Commissioners were unsure on Wednesday about allowing medical offices with retail or personal services, such as spas that offer Botox.
“Is a blood draw a personal service? If I go into the dermatologist and he removes a skin tag, is that a personal service?” Chang asked.
Chang said she is worried that businesses like Quest Diagnostics would fill University Avenue, but they would bring in a lot of foot traffic.
What landlords want
Peter Giovannotto, owner of a long-vacant building at 451 University Ave., said an AI company called Neko Health is interested in filling the space with its body-scanning machines.
The company expects well over 100 daily visitors, and only body scans, not treatment, would be offered on site, Giovannotto told commissioners.
But the city’s current rules don’t allow businesses on University Avenue if they employ medical professionals. “That seems a shame to me as this business
perfectly aligns with Palo Alto’s reputation for showcasing technological innovation and championing health,” Giovannotto told commissioners.
Commissioner Kevin Ji said he would be open to allowing medical offices if they don’t require an appointment.
“I want a vibrant street such that each of the places I go to can be somewhere that I can partake in,” Ji said. “And it feels very alive, and there’s significant movement.”
Council will ultimately decide what’s allowed.
overrun by liberal influence. His administration previously has targeted undergraduate admissions at selective colleges, demanding they collect data to show they are in line with a 2023 Supreme Court decision forbidding affirmative action in college admissions.
The investigations were reported first by The New York Times.
In a letter to Ohio State, Dhillon wrote that the Justice Department was seeking any documents related to “the use or lack of use of race” in evaluating applicants. She said they were also seeking all applicant-level admissions data and any reviews by the school of admissions trends or outcomes by race.
“UC San Diego is committed to fair processes in all of our programs and activities, including admissions, consistent with federal and state anti-discrimination laws,” the university said in a written statement.
Stanford School of Medicine spokesperson Cecilia Arradaza said it was reviewing the letter.
“Stanford School of Medicine prohibits unlawful discrimination on the basis of race, color, national or ethnic origin, or any other characteristic protected by applicable law,” Arradaza said in a written statement. It was not immediately clear why the three medical schools were targeted.
STANFORD ––––CHAVEZ
A separate, five-page document details the records the government is seeking. It includes data on standardized test scores, information collected or inferred on race and ethnicity, and admissions decisions for each applicant going back to the incoming class that started in 2019.
Schools respond
Ohio State spokesman Benjamin Johnson said the school is compliant with state and federal regulations and legal rulings regarding admissions. “We’ve received the attached letter and will respond appropriately,” he said.
UC San Diego said in a written statement that it was reviewing the notice from the Justice Department.
Affirmative action banned
The Supreme Court ruling that banned the use of affirmative action in admissions said colleges could still consider how race has shaped students’ lives if applicants share that information in their admissions essays. Trump has raised concerns that colleges and universities were using personal statements and other proxies to consider race, which he views as illegal discrimination.
Earlier this month, a coalition of 17 Democratic state attorneys general filed a lawsuit challenging a Trump administration policy that requires higher education institutions to collect data showing they aren’t considering race in admissions. A federal judge in Massachusetts is weighing their request to block the demand.
board needs to update its policy over school names first before any renaming happens.
Meanwhile, Gov. Gavin Newsom signed a bill yesterday to rename Cesar Chavez Day as Farmworkers Day in an effort to reconcile the Latino labor icon’s legacy with explosive sexual abuse allegations before the state holiday on March 31.
Wave of renaming
The state’s effort to rename the holiday is part of a
Police: Two men shot
Two men were shot in a Redwood City home by someone they knew, police said yesterday.
Police received a call on Wednesday reporting a gunshot at 9:15 a.m. at McGarvery Avenue and Farm Hill Boulevard, near the Peninsula Covenant Church.
While first responders were on their way, a second call reported another person injured from a gunshot wound near by on the 3000 block of Hastings Avenue, police said.
wave of other moves to alter memorials honoring the man who, in the 1960s and 1970s, helped secure better wages and working conditions for farmworkers and had been admired by many Democratic leaders. The swift and sweeping effort to erase Chavez's name from public life was previously unthinkable, as his status had only grown more iconic since his death in 1993.
Republican Sen. Suzette Valladares said yesterday that her family built a life in California by working the fields and that the movement brought together workers from different backgrounds.
“This is not about one person. This is not about one narrative,” she said. “It’s about honoring generations of sacrifice, of resilience and hope.”
Senate President Pro Tempore Monique Limon said honoring farmworkers is especially important in the face of a series of federal raids across the state.
Police determined the shooing happened in a home on the 3000 block of Hastings Avenue and the shooter and two men know one another, said Lt. Jeff Clements.
Clements wouldn’t say how the men knew each other. Both gunshot victims were taken to the hospital with critical injuries but are expected to survive, police said.
Anyone with information is asked to call the Redwood City Police Department at (650) 780-7100.
First both times
California was the first state to designate Chavez's birthday, March 31, as a holiday to honor the civil rights leader nearly 30 years ago. The Legislature then, in 2000, passed a bill to make it an official paid day off for state employees and require that students learn about his legacy and his role in the labor movement in California. The legislation passed yesterday didn't address the curriculum requirement. State leaders said they're in conversation with school officials to adjust lesson plans.
Since the allegations came to light, California State University, Fresno, has covered up Chavez’s statue on campus, while cities like San Jose, San Francisco, Los Angeles and Sacramento have taken steps to erase his name from public landmarks.
Some advocated for Huerta’s name to replace Chavez’s.
