After splitting the city into seven voting districts to avoid getting sued, Redwood City council is now considering opposing a bill in the state legislature that would again raise the specter of voting-rights lawsuits.

The Redwood City council tonight will consider taking a position on Senate Bill 1164 by Sen. Sabrina Cervantes, D-Riverside.

Supporters say the bill is needed to protect California voter rights as federal voting protections have been whittled away.

But opponents say that if the bill passes, even cities that have moved to district elections could face constant legal threats over their district maps and other election issues.

Henigin said she would help campaign by giving the public a clear explanation as to why the schools need the funds.

“We need to build trust with our community and be really clear about what it would be spent on, and why it’s necessary,” Henigin said.

The tax would have raised $14.5 million, and be used to help fund teacher’s paychecks and local programs.

Her bio Henigin received a master’s degree from Bank Street College of Education in New York and taught elementary school in New Jersey from 2003 to 2007, according to her social media.

Henigin has pushed the city to allow denser housing. She is involved with Indivisible Palo Alto Plus, a group that has marched for immigrant rights and against President Trump.

Battalion Chief Glendon Chan of Redwood City Fire said workers inside the restaurant reported the fire at 5:25 a.m. Chan said there were reports of smoke.

Everyone inside got out and there were no injuries.

Congressman Ro Khanna, who is eyeing a run for president, is the South Bay’s most outspoken critic of the rich.

In fact, he co-sponsored the Make Billionaires Pay Their Fair Share Act with Sen. Bernie Sanders, that calls for a 5% annual wealth tax on billionaires.

The Washington Free Beacon, a right-of-center news site, says the Khannas are ditching the mansion and moving to an even larger and more expensive property KHANNA nearby.

The Free Beacon reports that Khanna’s wife drives a $190,000 Range Rover she was so displeased with that she sued the dealer.

The Khannas “live a life of staggering luxury, fueled by dynastic wealth they did not earn and protected by the same thicket of trusts, anonymous corporations, and foundations that Khanna condemns,” wrote Free Beacon reporter Andrew Kerr.

Khanna didn’t earn his fortune.

In 2015, he married Ritu Ahuja, whose father, Monte Ahuja, is the founder of Transtar Industries in Cleveland, a distributor of auto

parts. Khanna’s millions come from his wife’s family.

Despite his opulent wealth, the San Jose congressman bashes the rich and supports Democratic Socialist candidates such as New York Mayor Zohran Mamdani.

When Khanna speaks, you’d never know about his wealth. Legacy media reporters never question him about it in interviews. The Mercury News and Chronicle aren’t going to write about it. But now you know.

Poor permit system

Dear Editor: Has anyone else been having trouble with the new parking permit system that the city of Palo Alto is using to dole out residential parking permits? I have had my documents rejected several times by the new system.

I am now on my third round of attempts to be verified. Each time I re-upload, they say it failed and when I tried to query the issue, it — the system — just repeats that I should do it again.

Besides the massive waste of my time, what really burns me up about the new system is that it is all AI driven.

There is not a human anywhere in place to answer my questions or deal with the situation. This is frustrating. Also when I complained to a city employee, he too responded with a ChatGPT-written email.

I realize there is nothing I can do about it now other than write this letter, but I thought it was important to note

in public what an extremely poor and frustrating situation it has created.

Dear Editor: The city of Menlo Park wants to spend $62 million for a pedestrian and bike tunnel under the Caltrain tracks at the end of Middle Avenue?

Here’s a little history. I grew up on Middle Avenue in the home my family built in 1946. In grade school, the children in our neighborhood used to bike to Burgess Park to swim. We would bike down Middle, cross El Camino Real, walk through the used car lot and carry our bikes over the train tracks and end up at the park. There was no Caltrain fence.

I am flabbergasted that the city of Menlo Park would consider spending money of such magnitude when the addition of a bike lanes on El Camino and

on Alma Street could solve the safety issue.

I think in the age of electric bikes, the money would be better spent teaching bike riders to ride safely and lawfully, such as stopping at stop signs.

Man on El Camino attacked

A man in his 70s was hit in the head from behind on El Camino Real in Palo Alto in a possible case of elder abuse, police said.

The assault occurred about 6:20 p.m. Friday as the man walked to his car, police said. The location is not far from Stanford University’s Escondido Village graduate student housing.

While vaping remains the biggest concern when it comes to nicotine use among young people, doctors at the University of Virginia say they’re seeing a troubling shift: cigarettes are beginning to regain appeal with some people in their 20s.

Health experts stress that teen cigarette smoking rates remain low. But they say the way smoking is portrayed in pop culture — from celebrities and influencers to movies, television shows and music videos — could be changing how some members of Generation Z view cigarettes.

2 men parachute from Space Needle The Seattle Police Department is searching for two men who climbed over the glass wall of the city’s iconic Space Needle, flipped over the edge and parachuted down from the 605foot structure.

The jumpers face trespassing charges, according to a report provided by Public Affairs Officer Brian Pritchard.

The BASE jumpers purchased tickets and entered the Space Needle at about 8:50 p.m. Friday, according to the Seattle Police Department.

The popular attraction has a round observation deck surrounded by high

glass windows that are open to the sky above.

They were seen on camera at the top level of the Needle then went into a restroom, coming out with helmets on, according to police.

They ran to the glass window, climbed over to the other side, and jumped off, according to police.

Security at the Space Needle were unsure where the men landed, and police could not locate the individuals. They have not been identified by authorities and were described only as white men in their late 20s.

Fight at big party, 1 dead, 6 injured A shooting at a large party near Morgan Hill killed one person and injured six others, the Santa Clara County Sheriff’s Office said.

The gathering Saturday night was at Hale Avenue, near Miramonte Avenue, in an unincorporated area of the county just northwest of the city of Morgan Hill. A Sheriff’s Office spokesman said it was advertised on social media and drew 300 people.

Sheriff’s deputies were responding to a call about drunk people in the street and a person throwing bottles at cars at about 10:15 p.m.
