On May 7, 2026, the Brandon Chamber of Commerce hosted the 143rd Annual Business Achievement Awards Gala, an evening dedicated to celebrating the achievements, leadership, and resilience of Brandon and Western Manitoba’s business community. Held at the Keystone Centre, the sold-out event brought together business leaders, entrepreneurs, community partners, and residents to recognize the individuals and organizationshelpingdrivegrowth,innovation,and economic development across the region This year’stheme,“It’saJungleoutThere,”reflectedthe determination and leadership it takes to succeed intoday’sbusinesslandscape
Award recipients included the Outstanding New Business Award presented to Jennifer and David Anning of Compass Coach Lines, the Young Entrepreneur Award to Cassandra Jamieson of McPhail Travel & Moonlit Canopy, and the Westman’s Top 4 Under 40 Awards presented to Courtney Matienzo, Kyle Neufeld, Lindsey Raupers, and Chris Hunt The Small Business Excellence Award was awarded to Reesor’s Jewellery, while Canadian Tire received the Large Business ExcellenceAward

Community Impact Individual Award: Tamra Rapsky
Tamra brings more than 45 years of leadership experience in roles including Controller, College Instructor, Director, CFOO, and Finance Operations Manager. She is deeply committed to strengthening community through leadership, volunteerism, and mentorship. Tamra actively supports community engagement by serving on boards and committees and mentoring women in their careers and governance roles. She currently serves with the Assiniboine College Foundation, Westman Immigrant Services, Westman Communications Group, and several local initiatives in Minnedosa and the Valley Life community As an educator, she co-founded the Business Project, an experiential learning program for students, and as Director of Continuing Studies, expanded access to community-based training across Manitoba Tamra has also supported numerous initiatives including CIBC Run for the Cure and Habitat for Humanity Women Build
Community Impact Business Award: Sobeys West End
Sobeys West End is committed to making a meaningful impact in the Brandon and Westman community through ongoing support, partnerships, and charitable initiatives. Through fundraising campaigns, community BBQs, and in store efforts, the team supports a wide range of local organizations and causes. Sobeys West End actively engages staff and volunteers in initiatives like Fill the Bus campaigns and holiday food drives, while also supporting local events and bursaries. The team has supported organizations such as Samaritan House, Dream Factory, Special Olympics, and local school programs, contributing to food security, youth initiatives, and community events. With a strong focus on giving back, their efforts continue to make a meaningful impact by strengthening the community and enhancing quality of life across the region.
Outstanding New Business Award: Compass Coach Lines
David and Jen are the founders of Compass Coach Lines, a locally owned business built on reliability, respect, and people first values. Starting with just two units and a small team, they have grown the company to a fleet of eight and a dedicated team of 20 employees. Through hands on leadership, continuous learning, and a strong commitment to their vision, they have steadily expanded while maintaining a focus on high quality service and strong relationships with staff, clients, and the community. Their intentional approach to growth, combined with a supportive and positive workplace culture, continues to drive the ongoing success of Compass Coach Lines

Lifetime Business Builder Award Recipient: Bob Mazer
Bob Mazer was a visionary business leader and respected figure in Canada’s agricultural industry Beginning his career at 17, he joined the family dealership in 1969 and helped grow it into Mazergroup, now the largest privately owned New Holland dealer network in North America, with 18 locations across Manitoba and Saskatchewan. Guided by a commitment to customer service, people, and community, Bob built a lasting legacy recognized with honors including Brandon’s Businessperson of the Year and induction into the Farm Equipment Dealership Hall of Fame. In 2024, Mazergroup was named Dealership of the Year, reflecting his enduring impact. Bob and his wife Patti were also dedicated community supporters, contributing to initiatives that enhance quality of life across Westman and Manitoba.

Young Entrepreneur Award Recipient: Cassandra Jamieson
Cassandra is the owner of McPhail Travel, a full-service agency serving Western Manitoba since 1980, and the founder of Moonlit Canopy, a boutique glamping retreat near Pelican Lake She became a Certified Travel Consultant with honors and took ownership of McPhail Travel at just 27 Under her leadership, the business has nearly doubled sales through modernization and strategic growth, while maintaining a strong reputation for personalized service During the COVID-19 pandemic, Cassandra guided her team through industry challenges and launched Moonlit Canopy in 2021, which continues to support regional tourism She is a dedicated leader committed to building sustainable businesses and supporting economic growth in Manitoba
Business
Dale grew up on a mixed farm near Wawanesa, Manitoba, and now resides in Brandon. He has spent nearly four decades with Shur-Gro Farm Services, holding a variety of leadership roles before becoming Chief Executive Officer. Under his leadership, Shur-Gro has expanded to 13 retail locations and a fertilizer distribution terminal serving southern Manitoba, strengthening its presence across the region Dale is also actively involved in industry and community leadership He currently serves as Secretary of the Brandon Area Community Foundation and on the board of Nutrients for Life Canada, and contributes to Fertilizer Canada’s Retail Advisory Council His ongoing involvement reflects a strong commitment to advancing both the agricultural sector and the broader business community

Courtney is a Talent Acquisition Specialist with expertise in recruitment, workforce development, and employee engagement, overseeing hiring across 18 locations in Manitoba and Saskatchewan She is dedicated to supporting employees throughout their careers, including work permits and apprenticeship pathways, and also teaches at Assiniboine College Courtney is actively involved in the community, serving as a Board Director for the Brandon Career Symposium and Westman Immigrant Services, and contributing to the Brandon Chamber’s Workforce Alignment Committee. She holds a Registered Professional Recruiter designation and is working toward her CPHR and RCIC credentials to further support workforce development.

Kyle is a leader in business and community service, and Owner and Partner of Alair Homes Brandon He oversees project management, business development, and team leadership, delivering award-winning custom homes recognized for quality and innovation He is also a Journeyman Red Seal Carpenter with project management training Kyle is actively involved in community sport, serving as President of the Killarney Minor Baseball Association, coaching youth baseball, and supporting Oildome Baseball Westman He also volunteers with Habitat for Humanity and Helping Hands, helping coordinate over 65 Christmas hampers In addition, Kyle serves as a volunteer firefighter and was deployed during the 2025 Northern Manitoba wildfires, where his team received the Order of the Buffalo Hunt

Lindsey is a CPA and founder of Loft Accounting & Advisory Inc., an advisory-focused firm dedicated to helping business owners build profitable, financially sustainable companies. She is also co-founder of Engrained Flour Co., an on-farm flour milling operation she co-owns with her husband, Chris. With over 15 years of experience in accounting and business ownership, Lindsey brings a practical, strategic approach to supporting entrepreneurs at all stages of growth. She is passionate about helping business owners gain clarity in their finances, make informed decisions, and build stronger, more resilient organizations. In addition to her professional work, Lindsey is committed to entrepreneurship and mentorship within her community, supporting others as they navigate business challenges and opportunities
Top 4 Under 40: Chris Hunt
Chris is the Student Success Advisor for the Peters School of Business at Assiniboine College and serves as President of both the Brandon University Foundation and Alumni Association He is active in community leadership, contributing to the Brandon Chamber of Commerce Business Development Committee and local heritage organizations A 16-year Army Reserve veteran with the 26th Field Artillery Regiment, Chris deployed to Ukraine in 2017 and received a Canadian Joint Operations Command commendation. He also teaches international relations part-time at BU and is a defence commentator. Chris is currently pursuing a PhD in War Studies and holds graduate and honours degrees from the University of Manitoba and Brandon University.
