A MESSAGE FROM YOUR PRESIDENT

MembersoftheChamber,

November has been a whirlwind of activity, which began with attending the 26 Field Regiment’s Military Ball at the Brandon Armoury. This evening celebrated Chamber Past President Lori Dangerfield astheirguestofhonour.Loriactedastheregiment’s Honorary Colonel for 13 years and was instrumental inensuringthefutureofCFBShilobyhelpingwiththe transition of 2PPCLI from Winnipeg. It was an absolutely wonderful evening and highlights Brandon’s continued connection to our military partners. th

The Executive Committee hosted several meetings with government officials and have been working hard to ensure they are in the “room where it happens”. Throughout the month of November, meetingsandconversationswereheldwithMinisters Sala, Naylor, Simard, Moses, and Goodon as well as MPGrantJackson Wehavebeguninitialdiscussions withCityofBrandonmanagementtoallowustogain insight on this year’s municipal budget and are in regular contact with Mayor Fawcett regarding issues affecting our membership – most recently hosting a forumonretailtheft

A highlight for me was being in attendance for the Manitoba Government’s Speech from the Throne on November 18 This was a day filled with pomp and circumstanceandreallymademereflectonmyrole as Chamber President The Brandon Chamber has been in existence since 1883 and has been advocating on behalf of the business community eversinceitsinception Wecontinuetoputourselves in the right rooms to drive change Not every organization has that ability, and it’s something I respectanddonottakelightly th

On November 20th, the Brandon Chamber of Commerce welcomed more than 250 members andcommunityleaderstotheKeystoneCentrefor anengagingandthought-provokingconversation onmentalhealthintoday’sworkplaces Theevent marked another strong gathering in our 2025–26 Luncheon Series, bringing together professionals from across Westman to learn, reflect, and engage

Our keynote speaker, Rebecca Gray, a Certified Mental Health First Aid Trainer with the Mental Health Commission of Canada, led attendees through an interactive, game-based session designed to build awareness and reduce stigma Through real-time questions and insights, she highlightedthescopeofmentalhealthchallenges facing Canadians today from the startling 600to-1ratioofpeoplepermentalhealthprofessional, to the 12% of individuals who have experienced suicidalthoughts,afigurelikelyunderreported.

These moments offered a powerful reminder of the importance of understanding, empathy, and workplace cultures that recognize the reality of mentalhealthneeds.
