A large southern WELCOME to all Fleckvieh enthusiasts around the world to our TWELFTH annual “QUEST for the BEST EXCELLENCE” sale. The QUEST is an annual event designed for breeders of Fleckvieh cattle coming together with the common goal of presenting the BEST of their breeding programs to the world. The carefully selected cattle represent their dreams, dedication and commitment to improve the final product necessary to compete in the feedlot and ultimately on the dinner table. Unlike in the past, we now have a wide selection of genetics for improvement which makes the breeding decisions so important. Simply said, “You will find the BEST at the QUEST”. OUR FUTURE IS BRIGHT! As I am writing this welcome letter, the board on feeder cattle is close to $150 per hundred and fats at $125. Unfortunately, the severe drought and floods have forced the liquidation of thousands of head of cattle and yet prices are at an all time high. I believe this is due to our weaker dollar which has pushed our export market to levels never seen before. This trend will not change in the next few years and beef could become a rare commodity as the world economy becomes stronger and the contraction of our cattle numbers continue. Your commitment and dedication of breeding FLECKVIEH cattle will be rewarded more in the future as the market needs pounds of meat, not a color of a hide. I offer a very sincere thank you to our CONSIGNORS, GUESTS and FRIENDS for your attendance and if your schedule does not allow you to attend you may review the sale live at www.dvauction. Glenna, Beau, Tara, John and I appreciate each of you and your commitment for consigning only your BEST. We invite everyone to join us on Thursday to view the cattle and the Ranch, enjoy the Fleckvieh chili on Friday evening and begin your QUEST FOR EXCELLENCE on Saturday, September 24th at 12:00 noon. Come early in the week and consider your INVESTMENT CHOICES and enjoy the hospitality and fellowship of Glenna, John, Allan, Maurice and myself.
Welcome to the Twelfth Annual “Quest for Fleckvieh Excellence Sale”. Each year we start evaluating the past Quest sale just two days after the event and start selecting and laying the ground work for the next “Quest”. We are always looking for the most current and popular genetic matings that will work for basically anyone in the cattle industry. Quest XII consisted of over 5,000 miles of viewing and selecting cattle in the United States along with a flight to Canada involving our two Canadian consignors. I am extremely proud of our consignors as I can honestly say they all have honored what has always been the golden rule for the Quest which is, we only accept the best for the Quest. We have tried to provide you with various genetics and styles in our selections as we have German, Austrian, Full South African, Polled, Homozygous Polled and a blend of these genetics for your appraisal. Our consignors have the Vision and dedication to continually strive for genetics and types of cattle that improve our base herds. At Quest VI, the first polled animal to sell at the Quest was purchased by Indian Creek Cattle Company for $20,000. I remember stating at that time, the polled factor is not a fad but a necessary part of the future of Fleckvieh when utilized correctly. Study the offering and you will see that our consignors have the Vision to utilize the strengths of horned genetics with polled to create very useful animals. The semen offering is one of the largest ever offered at Quest and there are many rare proven horned bulls along with the polled and homozygous polled bulls provides you with the opportunity discussed in the previous sentence. Our embryo numbers are less than in past Quest sales, but more selective and have much more exclusivity along with proven predictability. A big THANK YOU to all of our consignors and a special THANK YOU to our host, Dollars Diamond D. Working with Kent, Glenna and John over the past seventeen years has been a honor and pleasure. Sincerely,
Roy
