Sara and Tin started their love story back in high school, and their fairy-tale wedding at the Esplanade Hotel, which they arrived at – by tram, was the icing on the cake

Here is how their love story, crowned by a wedding at the Esplanade Hotel, started. “At the beginning, we didn’t like each other much or hang out, although we were in the same generation. Only towards the end of high school did we become closer, and we started our relationship when we were in our first year at university. Eight years later, I asked her to marry me with rose petals, champagne, and cake. We had planned to have our wedding last year, but the pandemic thwarted our plans. In the end, we organized it this fall, and it was beautiful”, Tin recounts their love story. Evo kako je počela njihova ljubavna priča koja je okrunjena vjenčanjem u hotelu Esplanade: „U početku se i nismo baš simpatizirali ni družili, iako smo bili ista generacija. Tek pred kraj srednje škole smo se zbližili, a ljubavnu vezu smo započeli na prvoj godini fakulteta. Nakon osam godina sam je zaprosio, uz ružine latice, šampanjac i kolače. Svadbu smo planirali prošle godine, ali nas je pandemija spriječila. Na kraju smo je organizirali ove jeseni i bilo je prekrasno“, priča njihovu ljubavnu priču Tin.

Tin i Sara imali su dnevnu svadbu. Vjenčali su se u crkvi sv. Blaža, a nakon ceremonije uputili su se tramvajem, u kojem je bio i bend, prema hotelu Esplanade.

They chose the Esplanade Hotel as the location for their wedding, and Sara believes that Tin had always known that his wedding would take place there. “Tin had planned his wedding at the Esplanade even before he knew who the bride would be. He knew what the wedding would look like, which hall it would take place in, how many people would attend. And the bride was subsequently incorporated into his vision”, jokes Sara. Tin had a clear idea of what kind of a wedding he wanted, and the Esplanade made all of his dreams come true. Sara and Tin have celebrated many occasions, from their prom to business events, at the Esplanade, so they were both well acquainted with the offer, as well as the advantages offered by this Zagreb hotel with a long tradition and history. “The Esplanade will always be there, even in 50 years, so we’re planning to celebrate our anniversaries there, too”, Sara and Tin agreed. “I know that the staff at the Esplanade would do anything to help us create special memories of this day. I would like to commend Mr Josip Friščić and Ms Dora Vukičević, who really made a big effort when it comes to organization, and the chef, Ana Grgić. All of our guests later remarked that they’d never eaten better at a wedding”, Tin is full of praise.

Tin and Sara had a daytime wedding. They got married in St Blaise’s Church, and after the ceremony, they boarded a tram, accompanied by the band, to take them to the Esplanade Hotel. That was a really special experience. “After we arrived at the Esplanade, it was time for welcome drinks on the Oleander Terrace and photographs. We stayed outside for three hours, it was beautiful. Food was served outside, barbecue, prosciutto was cut, different cheeses, fruit served. We also had a cocktail bar with refreshing cocktails, a sweet table, a photo corner, a DJ. We organized gift-giving for our guests on the Oleander Terrace, too. After that, we continued the celebration indoors, more precisely in the Emerald Hall which was beautifully decorated. There were about 120 guests in the hall, we had enough space without the hall looking empty. We had soup and Esplanade’s famous štrukli, followed by the first dance to Elvis’s song “Can’t stop falling in love”. The best man persuaded all of the other guests to join us on the dance floor, too. It was beautiful, with sparklers and smoke. After that, the guests enjoyed the main dish, served buffet-style. The cake was also made by Esplanade’s confectioners, and it was delicious”, says Tin.

The surprise of the evening was the arrival of the band Soul Fingers, who played for an hour. They performed together with a dancer and put on a real show. “They persuaded me to sing to Sara, and, in the end, I didn’t want to let go of the microphone”, laughs Tin. After that, it was time to throw the bouquet, and, as Tin plays football and there were many of his footballer friends among the guests, Tin threw a ball instead of the bride’s garter. Za mjesto vjenčanja odabrali su hotel Esplanade, a Sara smatra kako je Tin oduvijek znao da će svadba biti upravo ovdje. „Tin je isplanirao svadbu u Esplanadi čak i prije nego što je znao tko će biti mladenka. Znao je kako će svadba izgledati, u kojoj će se dvorani održati, koliko će ljudi prisustvovati. A mladenka je naknadno ukomponirana u njegovu viziju“, šali se Sara. Tin je imao jasnu predodžbu o tome kakvu svadbu želi, a Esplanada mu je ispunila sve snove. Brojna događanja – od maturalne večeri do poslovnih događanja obilježili su u Esplanadi, pa su oboje bili dobro upoznati s ponudom, kao i prednostima koje nudi taj zagrebački hotel duge tradicije i povijesti. „Esplanada će uvijek postojati, i za 50 godina, pa planiramo i godišnjice braka slaviti ovdje“, slažu se Sara i Tin. „Znao sam da će Esplanadino osoblje napraviti sve, kako bi nam naš dan ostao u posebnom sjećanju. Pohvalio bih gospodina Josipa Friščića i gospođu Doru Vukičević, koji su se zaista potrudili oko organizacije te šeficu kuhinje Anu Grgić. Svi uzvanici su kasnije komentirali kako nikad nisu bolje jeli na svadbi“, pun je pohvala Tin.

Tin i Sara imali su dnevnu svadbu. Vjenčali su se u crkvi sv. Blaža, a nakon ceremonije uputili su se tramvajem, u kojem je bio i bend, prema hotelu Esplanade. To je bio poseban doživljaj. „Nakon što smo stigli u Esplanadu, slijedilo je piće dobrodošlice na Oleander terasi i fotografiranje. Na terasi smo se zadržali tri sata, bilo je prekrasno. Vani je poslužena hrana, roštilj, rezao se pršut, razni sirevi, voće. Imali smo i cocktail-šank s osvježavajućim koktelima, slatki stol, foto-wall, DJ-a. Na Oleander terasi smo organizirali i darivanje gostiju. Nakon toga smo nastavili slavlje u unutrašnjim prostorima, točnije u Smaragdnoj dvorani koja je bila predivno uređena. U dvorani je bilo otprilike 120 gostiju, imali smo dovoljno mjesta, a dvorana nije izgledala prazna. Pojeli smo juhu i poznate Esplanadine štrukle, nakon čega je slijedio prvi ples uz Elvisovu pjesmu „Can’t stop falling in love“. Kum je i sve ostale goste nagovorio da nam se pridruže na podiju. Bilo je prekrasno, uz prskalice i dim. Nakon plesa gosti su se okrijepili uz glavno jelo, posluženo na švedskom stolu. I tortu su radili Esplanadini slastičari i bila je izrazito ukusna“, priča Tin.

Iznenađenje večeri bio je dolazak benda Soul Fingers koji su nastupali jedan sat. Nastupili su zajedno s plesačicom i napravili pravi mali show večeri. „Natjerali su me da pjevam Sari i na kraju sam jedva pustio mikrofon iz ruke“, kroza smijeh kaže Tin. Slijedilo je bacanje buketa, a Tin je umjesto mladenkine podvezice bacio loptu, s obzirom na to da igra nogomet i među uzvanicima je bilo puno prijatelja nogometaša.

Sara je bila oduševljena uređenjem dvorane i buketima cvijeća, a posebno joj se svidjelo što je svadba bila tijekom dana, pa su i njezine male nećakinje i bake mogle prisustvovati.

Sara was thrilled with the decoration of the hall and the flower bouquets, and she especially enjoyed the fact that it was a daytime wedding, so her little nieces and grandmothers could attend. “Another special experience was our night at the Esplanade, the room was beautiful, we had breakfast on the terrace in the morning, and the staff helped us carry the gifts and pack our things into the car”, remembers Sara.

After a day and night to remember at the Esplanade Hotel, the cherry on top of this fairy-tale wedding was their honeymoon in Greece. Until some future anniversary or special occasion which they will surely celebrate in the hotel they hold dear, photographs will remind them of the magical day when they crowned their high school love. Sara je bila oduševljena uređenjem dvorane i buketima cvijeća, a posebno joj se svidjelo što je svadba bila tijekom dana, pa su i njezine male nećakinje i bake mogle prisustvovati. „Posebni doživljaj je bilo naše noćenje u Esplanadi, soba je bila prekrasna, ujutro smo pojeli doručak na terasi, a osoblje nam je kasnije pomoglo nositi darove i pakirati stvari u auto“, prisjeća se Sara.

Nakon dana i noći za pamćenje u hotelu Esplanade, bajkovito vjenčanje zaokružili su odlaskom na medeni mjesec u Grčku. Do neke sljedeće obljetnice ili godišnjice koju će zasigurno proslaviti u dragom hotelu, fotografije će ih podsjećati na njihov čaroban dan kad su okrunili svoju srednjoškolsku ljubav.

Famous & Distinguished Guests Poznati i slavni gosti

This summer, many Zagreb locations became the backdrops for the filming of well-known foreign series, attracting famous actors to the city. The Esplanade Hotel thus welcomed the Oscar-winner Rami Malek, famous for his portrayal of Freddie Mercury in the film Bohemian Rapsody, and more recently the villain in the latest James Bond instalment, and his girlfriend, the actress Lucy Boynton, as well as the actor Bill Skarsgard. The famous American actor Michael Shannon, the star of the films Groundhog Day and 8 Mile, also couldn’t resist the allure of the Esplanade Zagreb when he visited Zagreb with his family this summer. And the popular Swedish series Agent Hamilton, starring Jakob Oftebro in the main role, was filmed at the hotel last spring. The Swedish actor filmed several dangerous action scenes on the hotel balcony, to the astonishment of guests and passers-by. The famous French photographer Olivier Metzger stayed at the Esplanade while participating in the project Rendez-vous au cinéma at the French Institute, where he exhibited his portraits of celebrities.

Ovog ljeta brojne zagrebačke lokacije pretvorile su se u kulise za snimanje poznatih inozemnih serija, što je u grad privuklo i poznate glumce. Čarima zagrebačkog hotela Esplanade nije odolio ni poznati američki glumac Michael Shannon, junak filmova Beskrajan dan i 8 milja, koji je ljetos s obitelji posjetio Zagreb. A prošlog je proljeća u hotelu snimana popularna švedska serija Agent Hamilton, u kojoj glavnu ulogu tumači Jakob Oftebro. Švedski glumac snimio je na balkonu hotela nekoliko opasnih akcijskih kadrova, na zaprepaštenje gostiju i slučajnih prolaznika.
