WELCOME FROM THE

MAYOR

As Mayor of Washington, DC, I am pleased to welcome organizers and attendees to tonight’s Legacy in Bloom: Celebrating 55 Years and to offer my congratulations to the Jack and Jill Foundation of America!

During the 1968 National Convention of Jack and Jill of America, a group of the organization’s leaders planted the seeds to establish a not-for-profit arm —the Jack and Jill Foundation. For the next five decades, board members, organizers, and participants alike nurtured the soil of these philanthropic efforts and community service initiatives across the country. Energized by college funds, mental health awareness grants, rebuilding projects, and early education programming, the foundation grew into a nationally acclaimed nonprofit and a cornerstone of the African American community. It has been a privilege to witness your organization transform the lives of generations of young people, and I thank you for your unwavering commitment to ensuring all Washingtonians have a fair shot.

Tonight, as we commemorate the foundation’s 55 years of blossoming service, we pay homage to Jack and Jill of America’s leaders who sowed the flowered potential with just a few seeds. Their dedication has paved the way for thousands of young African Americans to grow up with the mentorship, community support, and educational opportunities they deserve. It also provided a vehicle for individuals wanting to pitch in and give back. Thank you for not only remaining hopeful for a better future, but for playing a strategic role in helping that vision be realized—the epitome of what I like to call our DC values. Today, our children are closer than ever to achieving our brightest hopes for them, and I know they will proudly hold the Jack and Jill name with them closely as they grow, prosper, and climb.

I humbly and gratefully join the 700,000 residents of Washington, DC in welcoming you to this evening’s event and congratulating the Jack and Jill Foundation on 55 years of profoundly impactful service. May you continue to invest in our communities—one program and one child at a time.

WELCOME!

FROM OUR EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR

Dear Friends and Supporters,

It is with great joy and heartfelt gratitude that I welcome you to Jack and Jill Foundation’s Spring Soiree, Legacy In Bloom. An evening dedicated to celebrating over 55 years of our achievements in philanthropy, and transformative impact on African American communities. As we gather here tonight in the newly renovated National Museum of Women in the Arts, we are reminded of the power of unity, resilience, and unwavering commitment to progress. A shared commitment to nurturing and empowering the next generation of leaders. Your presence here tonight is a powerful reminder of the collective impact we can make when we come together with a common purpose. We honor tonight some powerful trailblazers – our Advocate for Women and Children, Governor of Maryland Wes & First Lady Dawn Moore, our Legislative Luminary, Congresswoman Alma Adams from the 12th District of North Carolina, our Corporate Champion Alan Lewis from Natural Grocers, our Nonprofit Visionary Kelli Richardson Lawson of the House of Joy/SonRise, and a Jack and Jill Legacy Awardee who I affectionally called Aunt Rikki – Fredericka Hill.

The Jack and Jill Foundation was born during the civil rights era, a time of profound change and challenge. From its inception, our vision has been clear to transform African American communities, one child at a time. Through the tireless efforts of Jack and Jill members, supporters, Foundation Board of Trustees, and staff, we have made significant strides in education, health and wellness and building strong families.

As we reflect on our journey, we celebrate the milestones we have achieved and the lives we have touched but it has not been without obstacles. Through the global pandemic, the Jack and Jill of America, Inc. chapters and the Foundation rose to the occasion, hosting innovative fundraisers and ensuring that our mission continued unabated. Thanks to your unwavering support, we continue to invest in programs that inspire, educate and uplift young people across this country. Each contribution you make helps us provide vital health resources, educational opportunities such as our JJ College GAP Fund and mentorship that enable our youth to thrive.

This evening promises to be a night of elegance, joy, and inspiration. We have curated a memorable experience filled with wonderful entertainment, engaging speakers and the company of like-minded individuals who share our vision for a brighter future. I would like to extend my deepest gratitude to our sponsors, stakeholders, volunteers and each of you for your generous contributions and dedication to our mission. Together, we are sowing seeds of legacy, ensuring that the dreams and aspirations of our youth continue to bloom.

Thank you for joining us and for being an integral part of the Jack and Jill Foundation’s family. Let us enjoy this beautiful evening and continue to work together to create lasting change. With warmest regards,

Jack
