Welcome The Comb Family of Keiross Speckle Park extend a warm welcome to our 2nd Annual Speckle Park Sale – Speckle Park on the Plains. This year marks our 7th year of breeding Speckle Park stud cattle and we are extremely proud of the stock we are showcasing at this years sale.

What a year 2023 was for Australia and particularly the agricultural sector. While there is an absolute need for farming products across Australia and the world, it is evidence of how quickly things can get tight for farmers. The dynamic nature of this industry reiterates the importance of resilience and determination in the farming world. Despite the turbulent commodity prices in 2023 and dire 2024 weather forecast, we have experienced favourable conditions to start off the year and the market is beginning to show signs of recovering as a result.

About Us

Keiross Speckle Park is located in the Riverina, north west of Hay, “in the back country”. Our fourth-generation family farm is 57, 000 acres with a number of livestock enterprises including 6000 commercial Merino’s, a White Suffolk Stud, goats and importantly Speckle Park cattle. Our location is well known for saltbush plains and clay pans, and at times can be tough country. We want to promote how Speckle Park cattle can thrive, even in climates with diverse temperatures.

Our cattle are hardy, and will perform in broad commercial operations, as they do for us.

This year we are confident we are offering our best animals yet! We continue our commitment to search for exclusive Speckle Park genetics that have proven to perform with consistency, and we spend extensive time selecting and holding only the best which you will see on offer throughout the catalogue. We believe, if you do the homework and buy the best, you should be able to breed the best.

Last year we calved down over 140 purebred Speckle Park calves which gave us the opportunity to select from a variety of quality genetics. As a result, we have our best animals and genetics to continue to breed from and offer to you, the buyer, an opportunity to access the quality KRS is becoming known for. At KRS we continue our vision of breeding high quality and resilient Speckle Park cattle that have depth, class and are structurally superior with good temperaments.

Saturday 2nd March 2024 Hay Cattle Yards, Maude Road, Hay NSW INSPECTIONS 1st March, 2024 2pm - 5pm Keiross Speckle Park will be hosting an inspections afternoon on Friday the 1st of March (the day before sale day) from 2pm – 5pm for anyone who would like to view cattle prior to sale day.

INSPECTIONS ADDRESS Hay Cattle Yards, Maude Road, Hay NSW Alternatively, if you are interested in inspecting any cattle at an earlier date appointment can be made by contacting Dimity on 0434036506.

Cattle will be on farm at: “Keiross” Nandum-Corrong Road, Oxley NSW 2711 (80km northwest of Hay) If you are unable to get to Hay in person there will be videos and photographs of bulls and females for you to access. Please contact us for any assistance.

GUARANTEE (Physical Examinations/Veterinary Inspections) Keiross Speckle Park has taken the utmost care to ensure all sale animals are at optimum health and that all animals are sound breeders prior to, and at the time of sale.

Bull Guarantee All bulls are guaranteed breeders and come with a bull fertility certificate, supplied by Keith Petersen at Ovasem Animal Reproductive Solutions. Bulls have all had scrotal circumference measurements which are documented as raw data in the supplementary sheet and performance recorded in Breed Plan.

Stud Female Guarantee All purebred Speckle Park females in this sale have had a reproductive examination to ensure they have normal genital tracts and two ovaries present. A certificate from Dr Udo Mahne will be provided on the supplementary sheet and to female buyers. Many females in this sale are pregnant and have been pregnancy tested prior to sale by Hay Veterinarian, Wayne Gardam. Proof of pregnancy is attached to the supplementary sheet and available to buyers.

Recipient Cow Guarantee Recipient cows in this sale will also come with a pregnancy certificate from Wayne Gardam, Veterinarian, Hay. Certificates will be provided to all buyers.

Guarantee Note: Buyers must however be aware, that breeding livestock involves a certain amount of risk and can be unpredictable at times. Formal possession, risk and expenses pass to the buyer at the fall of the hammer. It is then the buyer’s responsibility to insure purchased sale animals for infertility, injury or mishappening.

Sale Information COLOUR PATTERN Speckle Park cattle come in four distinct colours: speckled, leopard, white with black points and solid black. The leopard and speckled pattern are genetically the same but display various degrees of spotting. Some Speckle Park cattle can produce red colour patterns if both parents carry the recessive red gene. It is important to understand how the Speckle Park colour patterns are inherited in order to achieve your breeding goals.

EMBRYO LOTS All embryos sold have been collected by a qualified embryo transfer technician and are Grade 1 embryos. These embryos are stored at Apiam Genetics. It is up to the buyer to get in touch with Keiross Speckle Park after the sale to arrange movement of the embryos. Embryos are not eligible for export. These embryos are sold with no guarantee. It is the responsibility of the buyer to ensure proper advice is sought when using these embryos.

BREED PLAN An animal’s breeding value can be defined as its genetic merit for each trait. While it is not possible to determine an animals true breeding value, it is possible to make an estimation.

These estimates of an animal’s true breeding value are called EBVs. EBVs for each animal are listed in the catalogue as well as the February 2024 Breed Plan reference table for comparisons.

Keiross Queens PEDIGREES THAT PERFORM We appreciate the importance of females and the influence good cows have on herds. We have done extensive investigation and made significant financial investments to purchase strong cows that will infuse performance and consistency into our stud.

Keiross Birdie Q39

Codiak Birdie is a significant female used in our herd. Her line is one we tapped into early in our development and we have found the Birdie line to be very structurally sound, quiet in nature and highly fertile animals.

Q39 is daughter of Codiak Birdie and Codiak Monument and one we couldn’t bring ourselves to sell as a young heifer. Q39 is a key breeder at our stud and is proving to breed highly fertile offspring. We are seeing heifers that love to flush and bulls with larger scrotal circumference than the average. This cow is a keeper and she gets regular compliments.

Keiross Gracelands Q53

Keiross Gracelands Q53 has become a favourite donor of ours and is daughter of Three Way Gracelands M27 one of the first stud females we purchased and highest priced Speckle Park female when purchased at Scone in 2018. The Gracelands line is so consistent and as you can see this cow has many attributes key for a broad range of cattle operations. If you’re looking for maternal power with a little extra frame this is your cow line calling!

Mt Eccles Sahara SOS M61 Sahara was one of our first purchases from Dr Udo Mahne and she has certainly stood the test of time.

She is a great type, highly fertile and her offspring have fast weight gain. Sahara has thrown consistent calves since 2019. Her pedigree includes, Mt Eccles Yassi, JSF Trade Secret Lacerta, Melisa and Yogi goes Redneck.

Keiross Attitudenous P19 A home bred daughter of Codiak Acres Attitudenous and Calamasue 9Y that we will not part with. She is stylish, eye catching and loves flushing. She has been a favourite since we bred her in 2018!

Keiross Katie P9 When initially building our stud a cow that took our eye was White Acres Katie. What a pedigree - Wattle Grove Sparkle E31 by Codiak Putnam.

We adore this cow. She is a daughter of White Acres Katie and HS Untapped 3A and like her mother she is quiet as a church mouse. Katie will be a keeper at our stud as we love her line and as a bonus she loves flushing more than us. At one given flush she produced 20 embryos.

Ewyn Sassafras WYN R12 An absolute treasure we purchased in 2021 for $26 000 to infuse the Sassafras line into our herd. When we saw this heifer in the flesh, we weren’t leaving the sale without her. She is loaded with maternal attributes and has bred consistently structurally sound cattle that will perform across a broad market. If you’re looking for appeal and a great temperament here is your line.

Keiross Ulysses T3 is a very smooth moving bull that has been a standout since weaning. He is a well-balanced sire in the flesh and on paper that will satisfy whatever role is required of him. T3 has a lot of qualities to offer including having the largest scrotal circumference of our T bulls. He is a lower birthweight bull, and his paternal line of Oakey Creek Ulysses combines the powerhouses of Upto Specs Ulysses and a favourite of ours, Codiak Amanda. Keiross Ulysses T3 is a non-carrier of myostatin.

Pedigree, depth and structural correctness is the hallmark of our program at KRS and that is illustrated here.
