where hands are busy and minds are free

A Collection by McKayla Hagen — Beyond Pine
Minnow Days was born from early spring on the northern plains — that moment when boots hit the mud, water begins to stir, and everything feels possible again. Inspired by my husband’s deep love for fishing — passed down from his father and now shared with our daughters — this collection reflects simple joys and a slower pace of life — the kind where patience is practiced, not taught.
Here, fishing becomes more than sport. It’s where hands are busy and minds are free. A time to teach, to wonder, and to just be. These patterns honor that kind of living — filled with patience, play, and the freedom to explore.
About McKayla Hagen Founder of Beyond Pine
I’m McKayla Hagen — an artist, designer, and founder of Beyond Pine. I was raised on the northern plains and now live on a small farm where stillness and open space offer the clarity I need to create. I’ve always felt like an old soul — shaped by the raw honesty of the women before me and the quiet, wordless strength of my father. When I once asked if he’d ever had a dream, he said: “I’m living my dream. I live it every day.” That moment became a blueprint for how I choose to live and create.
For over a decade, I’ve helped others tell their stories through photography, branding, and design. I also live the lifestyle that shows up in my work — our family ranch keeps me connected to the land, the seasons, and the kind of hard-earned beauty that doesn’t need to announce itself.
Beyond Pine is where I honor the people who’ve shaped me — not by telling their stories, but by translating how their presence made me feel. Each collection is rooted in purpose, not perfection — shaped by love, grit, and the subtle moments that stay with you.
I create through instinct. Through feeling. Every pattern begins with a mood, a memory, or a quiet detail most might miss. I don’t design to impress — I design to honor.
I believe creativity is a form of reverence. Beauty and purpose often show up in the same place — and when we create from what’s real, it lasts.
Steady. Rooted in what matters. That’s the kind of work I believe in. The kind that carries purpose. The kind that moves me.
— Eleven designs. Two colorways.
Minnow Days is a surface pattern collection inspired by early spring and evenings spent outside with our daughters. Fishing poles, birds overhead, ducks in the reeds, rippling water — these are the details that stayed. It’s a collection about freedom, focus, and the joy that comes from getting your hands a little dirty.

These designs honor the rhythm of life outdoors: the early casts, the patient teaching, and the peace found in motion. It’s a tribute to strength passed down and the freedom of being exactly where you belong.
These tones come from quiet moments near the water — steady light, calm movement, and the absence of urgency. The colors reflect stillness, focus, and the kind of peace that comes from teaching your kids something that lasts.
A time to teach, to wonder, and to just be.
From the rippling water near our farm to the pine tree edges and hidden forts, the landscape in Minnow Days echoes the terrain that first inspired Rocky Run — a collection rooted in childhood memory and the honest beauty of land we’ve called home for generations.
This collection carries a creative thread that runs through all of my work: meaningful, grounded design shaped by real places, real people, and the simple wonder of rural life.
This collection is ready for its next chapter — on fabrics, in kids’ spaces, and through meaningful product partnerships.
Built from memory and rooted in rhythm, Minnow Days captures the quiet joy of childhood spent outdoors — where patience meets play, and nature becomes the classroom. These designs offer a fresh take on heritage — grounded, gentle, and full of purpose.
