THE CRUSHING REALITY OF POVERTY IN NEW BRUNSWICK New Brunswick has among the highest levels of child poverty in Canada. More alarming, our best plans, efforts and investments have produced little change in child poverty levels over the past three decades. When children are left out, it has devastating consequences. Children in poverty almost always become adults in poverty. We simply can’t let that continue, generation after generation.

As they continued, we saw the benefit was profound - higher levels of focus and discipline, improved behaviour and academic performance, greater confidence and self-esteem. Children learn the connection between hard work and achievement. They begin to understand their capacity as a human being.

EVERY CHILD DESERVES OPPORTUNITY Growing Sistema NB is important only because of the need among children and their families. Without intervention, thousands of children are consigned to the cycle of multi-generational poverty, with terrible human and social costs. Making Sistema NB more widely available to more children, on the other hand, provides significant economic, social and cultural return on investment to the community. Just as compelling, including more children is a compassionate, humane and just response to the deprivation of New Brunswick children who, without an intervention, will be left out today and marginalized throughout their lives.

MASTER INVESTMENTS TO SUPPORT THE WORK OF SISTEMA NB Is it possible that a few socially-minded investors – individuals who are deeply committed to the advancement of the next generation of New Brunswick children aged 6-16 – can help to ensure Sistema NB impacts far more children, in more New Brunswick communities, over the next 15 years?

THE CAMPAIGN FOR 10,000 CHILDREN A target of $12 million, with principal and income expended over a 15-year period to maximize impact. A funding model built to power the next generation of change among children in New Brunswick. To achieve the same annual benefit from a traditional endowment we would need to seek an initial investment more than twice as large, or $30 million, as the one proposed for The ‘10,000 Children’ Campaign. Battling the effects of child poverty will be crucial for at least another generation in New Brunswick. Sistema NB makes a significant difference in that battle. That’s why we are asking investors to decide now to power the next generation of change.

THE NEXT GENERATION OF CHANGE 10,000 NEW BRUNSWICK CHILDREN OVER 15 YEARS: A time horizon for which we can reasonably project the ongoing need; A period over which we can envision the evolution of Sistema NB as an effective response; and, A sufficient season from which to impact a significant portion of an entire generation of young people in NB.

PLAN DETAILS The 15-year plan annual budget will grow to $5.5 million by 2035. The ‘10,000 Children’ Campaign, $12 million of which will be contributed during the first 5 years of the plan, with interest, will result in $17.2 million in revenue to Sistema NB over 15 years. This will provide a firm financial base for the next generation of service. Sistema NB will raise $1.25 million annually from communities where it operates Sistema NB will receive Province of NB support of $2.05 million annually – not increasing from the current level of support and capped over the life of the 15-year plan. With this plan, the province’s share drops from two-thirds to one-third of the total budget, a more sustainable option for the government.

THE ‘10,000 CHILDREN’ CAMPAIGN This project, to dramatically transform the lives of 10,000 New Brunswick children, is not for everyone. It rests with those who have that very special combination of values, generosity and love those who have the heart and the vision to serve society by lifting others in the most meaningful of ways. Without intervention, thousands of children are consigned to the cycle of multi-generational poverty, with terrible human, social and economic cost. Sistema NB makes a difference.
