A record number of 36 businesses are competing in the 32nd annual Chili Cook-off, so plan your strategy to taste as many as you can from noon to 3 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 29. Vote for your favorites using the Crosslake App on your smartphone or find paper ballots at platinum sponsor Whistling Wolf Mini Golf and gold sponsors Grand Champion Meats, Holiday Station Store, Moonlite Bay Family Restaurant and Zorbaz. More than 1,600 users have downloaded the free Crosslake App on their smartphones and it’s proving to be a valuable year-around resource for locals and visitors to find businesses, services and information on events taking place in Crosslake, said Crosslake Chamber Director Cindy Myogeto. “It’s a bonus that we can use the app for events because all the activity details can be found at your fingertips,” Myogeto said.

Tour Crosslake’s new school; flea market relocates
New this year, the brand new Crosslake Community School will host an open house, complete with a ribbon cutting at 10 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 29, followed by tours of the new school, and of course chili too. The Crosslake Ideal Lions Flea Market has been relocated to Crosslake Town Square, which is also the site of the 17th annual Classic Car, Truck, Motorcycle and Tractor Show. Look to the Exchange Lot on Route 66 to find handmade crafts, original artwork, furniture, canned goods, jewelry, décor and more.
The 42nd annual Jul Kaffe Fest (Christmas Coffee Fest) will be held in conjunction with Crosslake Days from 8:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 29, in the Crosslake Lutheran Church Fellowship Hall. A wide variety of sewing, painting and knit items will be available, along with fall and Christmas decorations, gifts, handstamped greeting cards and jewelry. The bake and candy shop will feature a large variety of goodies, including Jul Bread, lefse, pies and more. A quilt titled “Santa Fe,” made by the church’s quilting group, will be raffled at 2 p.m. Raffle tickets will be available the day of the sale. Lunch will be served from 10:30 a.m. until gone. The menu includes shredded roast beef
sandwiches or chicken salad plate for $7. All proceeds from the sale stay in the community and will be used to help local charities.

Historic Log Village site of Cider and Candlelight Tour The Crosslake Historic Log Village will be the site of the annual Cider and Candlelight Tour from 7-9 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 29. Visitors will have the opportunity to experience the 1900 village at night, lit by lanterns and candles as in a century ago. Buildings will be heated with wood fires if it is cool.
Costumed volunteers will provide tours of the historic buildings. Hot apple cider and fall treats will be served in the Livery. Peanuts and candy corn and root beer will be available in Duffy’s Tavern. Ray’s Promenaders, local square dancers, will entertain in the Livery. Visitors are invited to join in the dance. There will be “open mic” on the deck
of the Town Hall for individuals to offer a song or non-political dissertation. Children are encouraged to take advantage of this opportunity to entertain, read a poem or a composition. There is no admission charged for this event. Donations will be accepted to maintain the Historic Log Village.
