Bradshaws began with a simple belief –that beautiful things for the home could elevate everyday life. In the spring of 1895, John Leeming Bradshaw opened his doors in downtown Stratford, filling his shop with fine china, glassware and imported treasures from Europe. His passion for quality and artisanally-crafted set a standard that would guide the store for generations to come.
Through wars, economic changes, and a century of shifting tastes, Bradshaws endured – not just as a shop, but as a trusted name woven into the fabric of Stratford. John’s son, Harold, and later his grandson, David, carried the business forward with that same dedication to service and excellence.
In 1975, the Bradshaw family sold the retail business to Gordon and Bill Wreford, who saw the store as a legacy worth preserving. They expanded Bradshaws’ vision while honouring its heritage –creating a place where people could find not only beautiful tableware, but inspiration for life’s most meaningful moments. Bill and his wife Sharon owned and operated Bradshaws together for 32 years before selling to their son Jeremy and daughter-in-law Carrie in 2006.
As the current stewards of Bradshaws, we feel humbled and inspired to carry forward a legacy that began more than a century ago. From the brands we carry to the experiences we create, every decision is guided by the values that built this store: quality, craftsmanship, and connection. What started in 1895 as a small china hall on Ontario Street has
grown into a modern lifestyle destination that continues to evolve while staying true to its roots. Being recognized with the 2024 Global Innovation Award was an incredible honour, and it represents more than innovation – it’s a reflection of our team, our community, and six generations of families who’ve made Bradshaws part of their story.
