The loading bay required better circulation of air to beneft the trees.
It was important that the design refected the building’s former use as a silversmith’s by recreating the engineturned barley pattern that was used on cigarette boxes.
With the constraint of the shutter slats - we arrived at a pattern that plays with the internal and external light when the shutter is down whilst also creating a ‘memory’ of the building’s former use.

Artists At Three BPN Architects
Jewellery Quarter 2019-2020
In late 2019 we began a series of pop up art exhibitions. Three artists exhibited their work before we had to close the ofce in March.

Alexander Ward
’Kiocosa’ is a suspended sculpture constructed from identical pieces interconnected to produce a refective mosaic. Alex says “An organic theme runs through the very heart of the project, much like an organism, the mosaic can grow given the space, resources and time”.

Clean curves and sharp lines are challenging to achieve in lino, but Lorna has perfected the use of a compass, rulers and some very sharp cutting tools to achieve her designs. All are hand inked and pressed at home using a table-top printing press. Variations often occur between prints so each one is unique.

Anna Lorenz
Art and architecture inspire Anna’s work as much as the desire to explore materials and concepts. Her work is diverse and multi-layered, utilising gold and metalworking techniques.

In early 2020 we waved goodbye to Joelle as she returned to her homeland of The Netherlands but in turn, Architect Razvan Pop joined us.
March saw the whole country go into lockdown and the ofce closed. The team relocated their workstations and began remote working.
As an ofce, working collaboratively is at the core of what we do at every stage of a project and working from home was a big adjustment for the team.
Trainee Architectural Technologist Colm Kinsella was welcomed into the fold in August and as restrictions were eased our drawing skills were tested in life drawing workshops, organised by Bare Skin Life Drawing.
In November Architect Alex Billingham and Part II Architectural Assistant Sarah Edwards joined the team.
And ending the year on a high, Irena completed her studies in December.
