A Letter from the Executive Director

Cheerful and warm greetings to you all!

On behalf of the board and staff of Bolingbrook Park District, we all hope you and your families are enjoying a lovely autumn and preparing for a fun Midwest winter.

2022 was a fun year for Bolingbrook Park District! We opened up some great renovated playgrounds, we had free movies, free concerts, free play days, and some amazing and fun free special events, which were all very well attended. Our program participation has been strong as well. We have seen so many smiling faces in gymnastics, pre-school, dance, Ninja, Learn to Swim, youth and adult athletics, Camp Alotta Fun, adult trips, and REACH. Of course, our facilities have been busy as well with record numbers at Pelican Harbor this summer, continued strong golf participation at Boughton Ridge, and increased use of Lifestyles Fitness Center.

We have a great plan of programs and activities in store for you in 2023. Our annual Winterfest is scheduled for Saturday, February 4th! Look for information on this outdoor fun event in the program brochure or online at www.bolingbrookparks.org.

The Park District is nearing completion of our updated strategic plan, which will outline our direction for the next 5 years. You can look forward to our final two 2018 referendum playground renovations (Erickson and Balstrode), plus a return of our free community events and services.

I hope your upcoming holidays are filled with joy and celebration. Thank you for your continued support of your Bolingbrook Park District programs, services, parks, and natural areas.

Sincerely, Ron Oestreich, Executive Director

Preschool

It is never too early to learn! Our programs provide a balance of child-led and teacher-guided play allowing children opportunities to feel secure in their environment yet challenged to move out of their comfort level. Students will develop social, physical, and cognitive skills using art, sensory exploration, group time, and creative movement. Curriculum is based on the Illinois Early Learning Guidelines for Children Birth to Age Three.

LITTLE LEARNERS a preschool preparation program

Education & Camps

Two Sites... One Common Goal... Create a Learner for Life

The Bolingbrook Park District preschool programs, offered for children ages 2 ½ to 5 years of age, focus on educating children in a way that makes learning fun. Experienced teachers create a warm, positive educational environment that fosters a child’s natural creativity and curiosity. Children are engaged in a variety of developmentally appropriate activities that are aligned with state preschool learning standards. We communicate with kindergarten program administrators in the area to ensure that our curriculum prepares our students for success in elementary school.

PRESCHOOL PROGRAMS

SOON 2B3 PROGRAM

Children 2 ½–3 years old have their first positive experiences in a preschool classroom and become comfortable separating from parents for a regular period of time. Development of social skills, large and small motor skills, and basic curriculum concepts are a part of your child’s day. Diapers and pull-ups are acceptable to begin with, but children should be on his or her way to taking care of their own toileting needs. This class runs 2 days per week.

3 YEAR OLD PROGRAM

This program nurtures a 3 year old’s social and emotional growth and provides a curriculum focusing on letters, numbers, shapes and colors and the beginning stages of writing. This class runs 2 or 3 days per week.

4 YEAR OLD PROGRAM

In this program, 4 year olds strengthen relationships with friends and teachers and begin to understand responsibility as they become more self-sufficient. The curriculum focuses on emerging literacy, math, science, creative art and fine motor skills to prepare children for Kindergarten. This class runs 2 or 3 days per week.

PRE-K PROGRAM

The Pre-K program is designed for children 4–5 years old who are ready for additional time in the classroom. This program takes our 4 year old curriculum to the next level with in-depth exposure to pre-literacy, math, self-expression skills and class projects. This class runs 4 days per week.

Children must be potty trained unless otherwise indicated in class description.

PLEASE NOTE: 3’s, 4’s and Pre-K students must be 3 or 4 years old by September 1, 2022. Soon2B3’s students must turn 3 by March 1, 2023.

YOUTH & TEEN DANCE (7–18 YEARS)

Keep in mind: While the dance department offers classes by session, students should take a class for at least one year or more until the requirements of the next level have been mastered. Participating in a class for just a session or two may not be a sufficient length of time to adequately prepare the student for the next level of training. Please also keep in mind, while ages have been provided in the brochure’s description of classes to assist in the registration process, they do not supersede the recommendation of the teacher. Please stay in a level until the teacher recommends advancement. Do not hesitate to request feedback or evaluation from your teacher.

CRAYOLA IMAGINE ARTS ACADEMY

—ARTIST’S PASSPORT

Ages 6–12 years

Embark on an around-the-world cultural adventure! In this 4-week series, kids experiment with art techniques such as calligraphy, sculpting and patterning developed by artisans around the world.

Aboriginal Dot Art—Australia: We are going to the Land Down Under! Enter Australia's Western Desert and see how family stories are carried from one generation to the next. Every family has its story, and we will pass on our personal tales by painting with the dot art technique used by Australia's aboriginal peoples.

Truck Art—Pakistan: We're driving into a kaleidoscope of colors when we visit Pakistan! The roads are full of decorated vehicles, each one made to its driver's liking. We will observe the basics of Pakistani truck art and apply what we learn to create our own eye-catching model buses.

Tiki Masks—Polynesia: Let's set sail for the South Pacific! The people of the Polynesian islands believed that they needed to stay connected with nature in order to live comfortably. They created "tikis", or carvings, to connect with personifications of the forces of nature. We will think about our connections with nature and design tiki masks for our homes.

Block Printing—Europe: World travel is great for mixing up new ideas. Block printing concepts from the east were brought to the west, and the art of wallpaper began in Europe. Let's admire European wallpaper styles and then design and print our own block patterns.
