Spencer Washburn joined KION NewsChannel 5/46 in March of 2014 as the evening anchor of the 5, 6, and 11 p.m. newscasts on KION.
Joshua Matadamas, BGCMC 2018 Youth of the Year Joshua is a senior at Seaside High School and has been a member of the Seaside Clubhouse for over a decade and considers it his second home. His goal is to attend San Jose State University to learn film and media and go on to become a Director of Photography. Josh was recently named the 2018 Youth of the Year and awarded a $10,000 scholarship.
He came to KION from Colorado, where he served as anchor and executive producer for KJCT Channel 8 in Grand Junction. Spencer is a Southern California native and happy to be back in the Golden State, where he's excited to serve viewers on the Central Coast. Spencer has more than ten years experience as an award winning reporter and anchor serving communities from San Diego to Colorado. He looks forward to continuing his career here with KION News Channel 5/46 for years to come.
Jasmine, a senior in high school, grew up in the heart of the Alisal community and is a member of the Salinas Clubhouse. She’s currently the Associated Student Body (ASB) president and was recently awarded the Hank Aaron Chasing the Dream Scholarship in recognition of her talent. She hopes to create a company for young artists to realize their potential. Her goal is to attend a four year university, majoring in Business and Music.
Angela Valdez, Club Member Angela is the product of a hard-working family, which instilled in her a desire to try her best at everything she does. She’s currently a junior at Carmel High School and a member of the Keystone Club, a teen leadership group at the Seaside Clubhouse. She plans to attend college for a career in leadership. She was recently awarded a Hank Aaron Chasing the Dream Scholarship to help further develop her talent with music and voice lessons.

Our auctioneer tonight is Christian Kolberg, one of the most prominent professional benefit auctioneers in the country. Christian has served as the auctioneer for numerous charity events from the Grammys® MusiCares gala to the Big Ticket Gala for the Super Bowl®, working with personalities, Presidents and most importantly donors, helping charities raise millions for their causes. Christian is proud to share his talents tonight to benefit the thousands of children and teens that come through the doors of our Clubs. “Comics for Kids is always a great evening filled with a lot of laughter, love and generosity. It is wonderful to see individuals supporting such an important cause, kids and community,” Christian said. A marketing professional for more than 20 years, Christian found his true calling by accident when he volunteered to “stand in” as the auctioneer at a charity gala he was attending. Little did he know that this one night would turn into several requests for future events and let him know he had found something incredible. After nearly 25 years of auctioneering, Christian has helped organizations throughout North America raise anywhere from $50,000 to $27 million in a single evening.
Anthony Anderson Emmy and Golden Globe nominated actor Anthony Anderson is the star and executive producer of ABC’s sitcom “black-ish.” Anderson has received three consecutive Emmy nominations for “Outstanding Lead Actor in a Comedy Series,” a Golden Globe nomination, and two Critics Choice nominations for his popular role. In 2016, he won his third individual Image Award in the category of “Outstanding Actor in a Comedy Series.” His hit show “black-ish” has won multiple awards and been twice Emmy nominated for Best Comedy Series.

Your gift will fund our signature academic programs – Power Hour, Science, Technology, Engineering, Art and Math (STEAM) Exploration and College & Career Readiness: • Power Hour: Provides daily homework assistance with trained tutors and proven intervention programs, Dreambox and Read Live, for students below grade level in math and reading. • STEAM Exploration: Centered on building the skills to analyze data, think critically and solve problems, our members explore their interests through real-world experiences and hands-on projects, such as building solar cars, Claymation videos, and computer coding. • College & Career Readiness: Our teen members work one-on-one with staff and mentors to create an individualized plan for their future. The program offers a full scope of services, including: tutoring and academic coaching, college and career workshops, college tours and job fairs, SAT/ACT test preparation, internships and scholarship opportunities.
