Want the secret recipe for a perfect holiday?
Just add water!
Whether you’re a wave chaser, river cruiser or lakeside lounger, waterfront parks give you millionaire locations without the price tag.
Plan the perfect escape but book early, especially for peak times because waterfront holidays are in high demand.
Many SA parks are in premium waterfront locations that are often in the best spot in town. Some parks offer waterfront caravan and camping sites, while others may save the waterfront for guests staying in on-site accommodation.

Love a little bit lux on your holidays? SA parks have you covered!
A selection of parks offer luxury on-site accommodation options designed to suit the most discerning traveller.
If you prefer to camp in luxury, or don’t have the gear, rest easy knowing that you can find glamping options too. There is an on-site accommodation option to meet your style and your budget.
Parking in style allows you choose picturesque natural locations and amazing park facilities, while still enjoying the modern comforts you love. Get close to nature while enjoying all the comforts you deserve.

Holidays give busy families the chance to reconnect. To slow down, put phones away and enjoy the great outdoors. To create priceless memories.
Little kids letting loose in a splash zone. Big ‘kids’ (and their partners?) enjoying a sundowner with mum and dad.
Whether your family aims for busy and active with loads of facilities, or is more laid back, you will find a holiday location that suits the entire family.
But it’s about the kids, right? Think jumping pillows, playgrounds, mini golf, pump tracks, swimming pools, waterparks and timeless memories. Find Family Parks

“Going bush” used to be a hard yakka experience for the brave and the bold.
Today, SA parks offer you authentic bush camping holidays, but with modern amenities and access to creature comforts.
Enjoy camp fires, bush walks and the ‘wind down’ feeling of camping… without the risks of camping alone.
We have parks on farms, stations, in the bush, by the river and in scrub by the sea.
Whether in your RV, or staying in on-site accommodation, it’s always a perfect mix of nature and comfort.

You know you’ll miss your moggy or fur baby when you’re on holidays, so why not bring them along?
With over 135 SA parks allowing pets, we’ve left no bone unturned for the paw-fect vacation.
If you’re not a caravanner or camper, that’s okay, as many SA Parks are now offering pet friendly cabin accommodation options.
Look for the Pet Friendly Park symbol. Parks that have pet friendly on-site cabin accommodation will list that in their features.
Of course, you can always leave your pets at home and come back to holes in your garden and shredded curtains.

A few KM’s down the road and the feeling hits, a joyous mix of lightness in your chest, a pulse in your stomach and a quiet grin that forms when those little daily stressors start to fade away. Not sure when exactly it happens, but the open road ahead seems to pull you forward whilst it drags those worries right out the back. This is the pure joy of heading off on a holiday on the open road.
South Australia is no slouch when it comes to road trip options. Any which way holds a host of wonders for you to wander where the pleasures are simple: salt on your skin, red dirt on your boots, fish straight from the hook. It isn’t about the big-ticket rush. It’s about little stops, long chats, and real places. A bakery that only opens three days a week. A cliffside you share with kangaroos. A bottle of wine with no label but the best story.
So, pack the car or caravan, travel at the pace of your appetite, and follow our lead with these handpicked road trip itineraries — remember that road trips, like good meals, are best when you take your time.

Take your taste buds on tour
South Australians have long known that life tastes better when shared—and there’s no better place to savour it than along the Epicurean Way. This road trip meanders slowly and deliciously through four of our most loved wine regions, where we grow what we eat, bottle what we drink, and pass it around with stories as old as the vines.
The roads between Willunga, Hahndorf, Birdwood and Nuriootpa are made for road life, with powered sites close to wineries, produce markets and storybook towns. Take your time moving between world-class estates and family-run cellar doors, where tastings happen fireside and conversations with winemakers are part of the pour. Many cellar doors welcome dogs, some even offer overnight stays, and cycling slowly between stops is another favourite way to explore.
This is foodie heaven—hidden gems appear in old sheds, barns and inns, alongside Chef Hat–awarded restaurants and indulgent degustations. On Saturdays, Farmers Markets brim with small-batch honey, cheeses and sourdough—perfect for a fire-cooked meal by the van.
Drift along a seafood safari
Along the Eyre Peninsula, your itinerary shifts from Google Maps to tide charts. This road trip isn’t about queues or crowds—it’s about wind in your hair, salt on your skin, and the freedom to move at your own rhythm.
Travel from Port Lincoln to Ceduna past tumbling dunes, oyster farms in Coffin Bay, rockpools at Greenly Beach and the surf breaks of Streaky Bay. Stop at farmgate sheds for the freshest catch, or camp above sea cliffs where stars fall into the ocean. Take the plunge with giant cuttlefish, dive with great white sharks, or wade into quiet bays where sea lions play. Board a boat to watch whales breach metres away.
Camp at Memory Cove, a secluded wilderness in Lincoln National Park accessible only by permit. Join the Coffin Bay Oyster Farm Tour—don waders and savour oysters shucked knee-deep in the sea. Then drive the Talia Caves Scenic Route, picnic above sandstone cliffs, and marvel at Lake MacDonnell’s pink waters. Time it right to celebrate with the region’s iconic events: the Tunarama Festival in Port Lincoln and Ceduna Oysterfest.
A desert trail that leads to the outback
When was the last time you truly heard silence? A quiet so visceral you could almost touch it. Along the Explorers Way, that silence is everywhere. It clings to the vines of Clare Valley, drifts across the red ridgelines of the Flinders Ranges, and sinks into the cool, dug-out homes of Coober Pedy.
Begin with a legendary glass of Clare Valley Riesling. With more than 50 cellar doors, pick your favourite or hire a bike to ride the Riesling Trail at your own pace. Drive north to watch Wilpena Pound rise—glowing gold by day, glittering under an ink-black sky at night. Camp in Brachina Gorge or stay at a local station, then walk to Arkaroo Rock to see Adnyamathanha rock art and storytelling sites etched in ochre.
Stay at Rawnsley Park Station or Wilpena Pound Campground for powered sites and stargazing tours. Refuel at Parachilna for the Prairie Hotel’s famed feral-mixed grill, then journey east to Arkaroola and Kati Thanda–Lake Eyre for a scenic flight over the vast salt lake and fiery Anna Creek Painted Hills. Finish in quirky Coober Pedy—hunt for opals and sleep soundly underground after your epic adventure.

Nature's version of stillness therapy
Three regions, three ways to slow down. Threading the Limestone Coast, Kangaroo Island, and Fleurieu Peninsula, this road trip offers nature’s stillness therapy at every turn.
In Mount Gambier, dive into the magical world of Kilsby Sinkhole, snorkel its crystalclear waters, or take a refreshing dip in Blue Lake/Warwar or Little Blue Lake. Wander Umpherston Sinkhole/Balumbul, a sunken garden blanketed in flowers, ferns, and lush grass. Tantanoola and Naracoorte Caves tell ancient stories—stalactites drip, fossils glint, and torchlight brings them to life.
Penola and Coonawarra invite wine tasting and lingering over Wagyu steaks. Robe’s beaches are made for bare feet, lobster lunches, and slow walks, while Kingston S.E. balances quirky landmarks with quiet corners to rest. Park near Lake George or Beachport Conservation Park and fall asleep under stars. Paddle Coorong lagoons, hike Deep Creek ridges, or simply watch the waves. Hop on the ferry to Kangaroo Island: seals loafing on sand, dunes ready for a tumble, and Flinders Chase cliffs meeting the Southern Ocean. Take it slow.
Follow the flow
On the banks of the Murray River, everything flows differently. Days stretch. Mornings begin with a kayak paddle or a black coffee by the water. Life uncoils.
Book a powered riverside site at one of the many caravan parks, where your doorstep opens onto the river, or choose the comfort of a houseboat and drift downstream as morning mist lifts. For something more authentic, step aboard a paddle-wheeler and set sail, watching the world go by.
Start in the Riverland, where cellar doors, breweries, and roadside stalls tempt you with stone fruit, small-batch wine, and sunripened apricots. Explore Renmark, Berri, Loxton, and Waikerie at your own pace— no rigid plans needed, just a paddle, a deck chair, and permission to do nothing… maybe some fishing too.
Further downstream, wander Ngaut Ngaut rock art sites, kayak beneath ochre cliffs, or spend a night under one of the darkest skies on Earth. Visit Monarto Safari Park, then continue through Mannum and Goolwa, via Langhorne Creek wine region, stopping for eco-cruises, riverside pubs, or a campfire cook-up with locals.
Roam a seaside playground
Kick back, unclip the chairs, and let the sea set the pace. At Ardrossan, locals bend over shallow waters, scooping blue swimmer crabs, while you sizzle them fresh by the van with butter, lemon, and a gulf view. South in Stansbury and Port Vincent, powered sites stretch onto sandy beaches. Morning strolls along the shoreline reveal rock pools teeming with tiny crabs or invite a quiet cast from a sunlit jetty. At Edithburgh, tidal pools offer a cooling dip, while fresh oysters from farm gates taste of pure sea breeze.
Flaherty’s Beach and Hardwicke Bay beckon, while Marion Bay offers sheltered swimming, surf, fishing, and wood-fired pizza paired with local wine. At day’s end, retreat to a cabin or pitch your tent and let the waves lull you to sleep.
Dhilba Guuranda–Innes National Park bursts with wild drama: emus stride across dunes, surf hammers cliffs, and a shipwreck skeleton juts from the swell. Camp beneath Cape Spencer’s lighthouse and wake to waves rolling ashore. From Moonta Bay to Port Hughes, the slow road invites swimming, fishing, and sunsets melting into the horizon.

Experience the Adelaide Hills, a region where every season offers a wonderful reason to visit. From the enchanting morning mists and warm fires of winter, to the vibrant explosion of garden blooms in spring, through to the inviting shade of botanic gardens or fruit-picking in summer and glorious displays of colour in the leaves of autumn.
Cuddle a koala, engage with talented winemakers, savour craft beers or ciders, take in an event or market, or just indulge in a leisurely, long lunch.
Just a 20-minute drive from Adelaide, you will find a patchwork of vineyards, intertwining with expansive forests, steep ridges, rolling hills, and lush orchards.
Art enthusiasts will be delighted by the fine studios and galleries, from the historic cultural gem of Sir Hans Heysen's former residence, 'The Cedars,' to vibrant community spaces and galleries.
The Hills boasts an impressive list of over 50 cellar doors, ranging from intimate, boutique operations to modern and stylish venues. It’s a region where traditional craftsmanship reigns supreme, where cheese, chocolate, craft beer and cider, gin and even bread and jam are crafted with care and dedication. South Australia’s Wild Side - Stretching between the Southern Ocean and the Outback, the Eyre Peninsula is South Australia’s wild frontier — where rugged coastlines, vast open spaces and welcoming communities define the region.
Framed over 2,000km of coastline, it’s shaped by the sea: towering cliffs and surf on the west, tranquil bays and beaches on the east, and the ancient volcanic Gawler Ranges inland.
From Port Lincoln’s seafood capital to Coffin Bay’s oysters, Elliston’s surf and Ceduna’s sunsets, each town offers its own charm.
Adventure thrives here — swim with sea lions, cagedive with great whites, or explore national parks alive with wildlife. Beneath the waves, reefs and giant cuttlefish dazzle divers; above, vast dark skies blaze with stars.
The Eyre Peninsula’s bounty extends to its tables, with world-class seafood, grain, gin and wine. Remote yet accessible, it’s a place to breathe deeply, connect with nature, and rediscover life’s simple pleasures.
Are you ready to discover your wild side? Eyre is an invitation to step gentler, explore slower, connect deeper and leave feeling a whole lot lighter.
Explore ancient rock formations like Murphy’s Haystacks
Drive rugged routes from Bunda Cliffs to Elliston’s trails
Encounter sharks, whales, dolphins, sea lions & cuttlefish
Taste world-class seafood on tours & local menus
Sample local gins & wines across the region’s cellar doors
Tackle scenic 4WD tracks through national parks
Hike Carappee Hill or Yeldulknie Conservation Park trails
Meet wildlife at Mikkira Station or Glen Forest Park

Towing comes with responsibility, and you are a critical person in the logistical team. Your first step is to review the current towing resources, regardless of whether it’s your first time, or you have experience towing.
Wrapping your head around legal requirements, vehicle dimensions, towing parts, weights, braking systems, tyres, and the plethora of towing jargon can at first feel overwhelming. Understanding about the loaded mass of your trailer, caravan sway and how to safely load your trailer is essential. Weight limits cannot be exceeded, and you need knowledge of weight distribution hitches and more.
Proper training can increase driver confidence and improve safety. A caravan and trailer course will teach you the best techniques for safe, secure towing and is a perfect way improve your skills.
For a complete guide to everything towing in Australia download the National Recreational Vehicle Towing Guide at www.towing.letsgocaravanandcamping.com.au/ download-the-towing-guide
While your road trip is about ‘getting away from it all’ good communication is an essential safety consideration. Once you leave the hustle of the city and regional towns behind, communication options can be important. You should consider the need for additional items and ways to stay in touch if your mobile phone loses signal. Mobile signal boosters can boost your mobile phone signal, while satellite phones can send and receive from virtually anywhere in Australia. Another useful resource is a UHF radio which will allow you to tune into emergency channels and to talk on public channels and connect with fellow travellers.
These additional options can enable ongoing communication with friends, family and emergency services.

When you're out travelling the country, a new suspension or the latest fridge for your caravan might make you comfortable, but they won't save your life! Australia can be unpredictable, but prioritising communications can make all the difference in a sticky situation. Read on for some of the many options available to help you stay connected.

If you're travelling outside of mobile coverage, satellite communication is a necessity. You don't have to drive far out of the city to lose signal, and satellite communication can keep you in touch with friends, family and emergency services virtually anywhere on the planet. Iridium Extreme 9575 satellite phone (pictured), allows you to contact others as well as add on GPS and SOS button.
A GPS is an invaluable device for those travelling to unfamiliar areas. A GPS preloaded with topographic maps, such as the Garmin Overlander (pictured) can help you find your way, even when outside of mobile coverage. Many GPS' also offer spoken directions and voice activation, keeping your hands and eyes on the road. If you're on foot, a handheld GPS is a lightweight option. Some even offer inbuilt satellite messaging and SOS signalling.

UHF CB Radios are the most basic starting point for travellers on Australia's roads. A UHF is essential safety equipment, just like your spare tyre. These devices allow you to contact other road users, as well as emergency services. A UHF in your car means you are easily contactable and in the know about situations unfolding around you on the road.
A mobile phone signal booster is a must for your vehicle. These boosters can be installed into all types of vehicles to dramatically improve voice quality and increase data speeds on 4G and 5G networks. The Cel-Fi Roam 41 (pictured), supports multiple bands, ensuring compatibility with various network providers. Cel-Fi is the only one of its kind approved for use in Australia. Beware of illegal boosters available on the internet.

Layers of Land, Sea and Story - Carved from ancient seas and volcanic earth, the Limestone Coast is a place of vivid contrasts. It's where coast meets country and every town has a story to tell.
From rugged coastline and fishing villages to vineyards and volcanic lakes, the region unfolds in layers of geology, flavour and creativity.
Marvel at nature’s architecture - the moody depths of Blue Lake/Warwar and the surrounding crater lakes trail, uncover the history and heritage in towns like Penola, and journey between coastal communities from Kingston SE to Port MacDonnell - each with its own rhythm and charm.
Worth a second or third visit are the Naracoorte Caves, the only site in South Australia listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. It’s an experience where you step back 200 million years in time. The Victoria Fossil Cave is spectacular, while the Alexandra Cave and Bat Tour are a little more family-friendly.
Immerse yourself in lush wine country with six wine regions to choose from. While Coonawarra Cabernet Sauvignon is the region’s rock star, the diversity of the Limestone Coast sees sublime shiraz, merlot and cabernet franc blends, chardonnay and riesling all vying for your attention.
A landscape to be explored slowly, shaped by time, tides and the people who call it home.
Follow scenic drives linking coast, caves & country towns
Sip your way through six distinctive wine regions

Feast on southern rock lobster and fresh local seafood

Come and play outdoors. Whether it’s paddling or water skiing, cycling or walking, racing cars or four-wheel driving… this region has it all.
Famous for iconic houseboat holidays and paddle steamer history, but there’s more on offer. The waterways begin in the lower Murray near Swan Reach. This stretch boasts some of the River’s widest expanses and most spectacular ochre cliff faces. From here follow the Mighty Murray Way towards Mannum and Murray Bridge.
Float south towards the Lower Lakes, Murray Mouth and Coorong - one of the most unique environments
in the world – made famous again by the 2019 film remake of Storm Boy.
Along the way, you’ll go through Tailem Bend, now firmly on the map thanks to Shell V-Power Motorsport Park. Further south, you’ll start catching glimpses of Lakes Albert and Alexandrina as they begin to open up to the Coorong National Park.
The laid-back town of Meningie, set next to Lake Albert, is known for spectacular sunsets and fresh seafood. On the other side of the Coorong you can travel through to Goolwa, which is where the River Murray meets the sea.
Cruise the Murray River or explore the Coorong by boat
Go wild on safari at Monarto Safari Park
Gaze at the River Murray International Dark Sky Reserve
Spot migratory birds in Coorong National Park
Sip local wines at Langhorne Creek cellar doors
Admire vibrant silo art in Coonalpyn and Karoonda
Feel the thrill at Shell V-Power Motorsport Park
Relax by the river, lakes and sandy shores
Perfectly positioned on the banks of the mighty Murray River, waiting for you to visit. Make your adventure one to remember.

The Riverland, a region where adventure meets ease and nature invites you to slow down, reconnect, and explore.
Just two hours northeast of Adelaide and 90 minutes from Mildura in Victoria, the Riverland is home to the mighty Murray River. Famous for stunning river scenery, houseboat holidays and family fun on the water, there is much to discover on and off the river.
Beyond the iconic river views, you’ll discover charming towns, award-winning wineries, and seasonal produce that captures the true taste of South Australia. With a selection of cellar doors, restaurants, pubs and unique produce outlets, it’s worth taking a drive to discover
some of the best locally made food, wine, beer and spirits.
Families can enjoy the many unique playgrounds and play spaces across the region or see history come to life at a historical village, museum or on-board a paddle steamer. For on-water adventure, the mighty Murray River and Lake Bonney provide the perfect setting for wakeboarding, water skiing, paddle boarding and swimming.
The Riverland offers an opportunity to reconnect with nature with picturesque national parks and reserves to explore, some which include walking, riding and canoe trails.

Selected fresh fruit and vegetables cannot be brought into SA or the Riverland because it can spread destructive pests like fruit fly. If you’re caught carrying at-risk produce, you may receive substantial fines and your items could be confiscated.
The Riverland has an international 'Pest Free Area' (PFA) status.
That’s why we need you to leave restricted fresh fruit and vegetables at home and buy local instead. By following quarantine laws and leaving at-risk produce at home, you’re helping to protect local jobs, businesses, and food security.
For more information on restricted items, quarantine checkpoints and how to report suspected fruitfly refer to the information below.
