Once again I am pleased to welcome you to the Valencian Championships, the 13th competition which, again has been sponsored by Linea Directa, to whom we are very grateful for supporting us despite all the upheaval.
My thanks go to the players, committees and owners of the host clubs who have kindly allowed us to use their greens and facilities. I give special thanks to John O’Brien, the Competition Secretary who, once again, has put so much work into the organisation of this event.
I also thank the co-ordinators at each venue as well as well as the Umpires and Markers all of whom have more responsibility this year ensuring that hygiene measures are observed. I look forward to meeting as many of you as I can during the Competition and wish everybody the best of luck, but, above all, enjoy the occasion.
Once again we will take every precaution to ensure the safety of the competitors has been taken and with everybody acting sensibly it should be another enjoyable competition.
Bob Donnelly Itis with great pleasure that I welcome everyone to the 2021 Valencian Championships. During these somewhat unusual and difficult times we have been very lucky to be able to hold these Championships without interruption. This year we have an even larger turnout of contestants which I am sure is due to the lack of competitive bowling over the past 12 months. This years host, Emerald Isle and Quesada bowls clubs are great venues as they both have excellent facilities for watching matches. There is a lot of work involved in getting these Championships organised and I hope that all competitors enjoy the return of competitive bowling to the region, and that many spectators will come and watch the excellent quality of bowling during this event. This year we are allowing spare rinks to be used by non-competitors as a way of helping members of the host clubs to continue to enjoy their game during the Championships. All games will be played to the Laws of Sport of Bowls - Crystal Mark Edition 3.2 Ladies & Men's 4 Bowl Singles and 4 Bowl Pairs,4 bowl mixed pairs and Mixed 3 Bowl Triples. Games to be played between 15th September and 28th September and players must be available for the whole of this period.

RulesandConditionsofPlay
During every game there MUST be at least one of the original substantive team playing. No replacement will be allowed in Singles. Replacement players must fulfil the entry conditions above and cannot have already played in the same discipline,or have been a member of any substantive team in that discipline.
A Substitute may be allowed in line with Laws 33.3, 33.4 and REPLACEMENT-33.5 is a change of player BEFORE the match has started and may play in any position, including SUBSTITUTE-Skip. is a change of player DURINGthe match but cannot Skip. Changes to the substantive team pre-competition and between rounds are "Replacements" they are not "Substitutes". Substitutes during a game who continue to play in the next round of the competition will then be regarded as a REPLACEMENT.
All competitors must be Federated. Any player who is changing clubs & wishes to play for the new club must have paid a minimum of their Club Membership Fee to their new club,and must have notified their change of club to the Federation Membership Secretary.Payment of full green fee membership must be made prior to commencement of the competition. In team events all players at the time of entry must be members of the same club and have their Federation membership with that club. All games will be played on a "Knockout" basis, Pairs & Triples:18 Ends.Singles:first to 21 shots. Players are asked to be prompt and arrive at the venue 30 minutes prior to the scheduled start times. Any player arriving more than 15 minutes after the start time,or re-scheduled start time of a game,will be disqualified.

Long tailored trousers or Bermuda length shorts. Bowling skirts, skorts or tailored cutoffs may be worn by Ladies. Shirts must have sleeves and a collar, Ladies may wear sleeveless tops providing they have a collar. Club Coloured bottoms and shirts, or whites may be worn. The general rule for The Valencians Championship will be as follows: The host clubs should sanitise equipment to be used before and after each Playersmatch. - should sanitise their hands on arriving at the venue, before leaving the venue and regularly during the match. Unless you are using a separate jack and mat for each team, Individuals should ensure that when they handle equipment i.e. Trolleys, jacks etc... you should sanitise your hands before and after handling such equipment.
Ditch Markers ñ You must sanitise your hands before and after using the ditch Bowlsmarkers.and/or Jack in the ditch or out of play ñ The player removing them must sanitise their hands before and after.
The wearing of masks during a match is no longer compulsory, but if you cannot maintain a safe social distance of 1.5mtrs from other players, you should wear your mask. Centring the jack ñ the skip must do that using their foot, or a recognised lifter if they have one. If the skip has touched the jack he must sanitise his hands afterwards and advise his lead so that they can do the same.
Touchers ñ These may be marked using a spray chalk or a chalk pen only.
You must also decide who will use the trolley to collect the woods at each end.
With the devolvement of responsibility for COVID protocol from the main Spanish government to Regional governments and from them it has fallen on the individual Town Councils to set the standards they require for Sporting venues.
Skips should agree the score at the completion of each end.
Scorecards - scorecards must be agreed at the end of a match and each skip must sign their own card, these must then be handed to the duty Umpire. All players are advised that the wearing of masks is still compulsory if you are visiting the Bar/restaurants or any other area where social distancing is either difficult or impossible to practice. Common sense must prevail, and players should politely remind each other about the protocol if necessary. We are all getting older and will forget something from time to time, especially when getting involved in a match. Issues that continue should be referred to the skips on the rink and then to the co-ordinators. The above protocol is subject to change by the Spanish Authorities at very short notice and applies to The Valencian Championships only.
Measuring ñ When measuring care must be taken to avoid contact with the jack or Scorebowl. boards ñ The skip of one of the teams should update the score board.
