The Board and staff of Bowls Australia warmly welcome back all participants and spectators to the City of Gold Coast for the $314,200, 14-day festival of bowls that is the Australian Open.

The Australian Open, now in its 20th year, has certainly become the nation’s marquee lawn bowls event and indeed the world’s richest open bowls event, with a field boasting over 4,000 entries, ranging from club-level bowlers to world champions, all competing in an open draw.

Bowls Australia expresses sincere thanks to the 15 Gold Coast clubs and their members for contributing in hosting this prestigious event. As the Australian Open grows each year, so does the workforce, who do a spectacular job behind the scenes preparing their facilities and magnificent greens to share with our competitors.

To the officials and volunteers who will be working tirelessly over the next fortnight, we thank you for your invaluable services and contribution to the sport of bowls and trust you will enjoy your involvement and the opportunity to be close to the action.

Finally, we thank Bowls Australia’s wonderful partners whose continued support and contributions ultimately allow us to stage such renowned events. In particular, we make special mention of Tourism and Events Queensland, Experience Gold Coast, Australian Sports Commission, Australian Institute of Sport, Commonwealth Games Australia, Right at Home, Audika, Drinkwise, Aero Bowls, MakMax, BCiB, Original Matress Factory, Titanium Caravans and Puma.

We hope the 2025 Australian Open will exceed your expectations and wish the best of luck to the competitors.

Enjoy your stay on the beautiful Gold Coast.

The Gold Coast will once again play host to the world's biggest bowls festival, now it its 10th year in the City, as some of the best players from the nation and planet converge on Queensland for the 2025 Australian Open.

Each year the Australian Open reaches new heights and 2025 is no different, with the tournament set to enter uncharted territory on June 7 across Australia's Gold Coast.

Familiar and new names will return to the Sunshine State for the world's biggest bowls festival and the matchups will no doubt be tantalising once play commences across a staggering 15 host clubs and more than 4000 competitors.

Vying for more history in the men's singles will be Aron Sherriff, striving to win a fourth consecutive crown in what would be one of the greatest achievements that that sport of bowls has ever seen.

Standing in his way in section 27 are Tasmania's Rick Dunn, Victoria's Ashley Beckwith and South Australia's Andrew Peters. Come day one, Sherriff's last loss in singles play at the Australian Open will have come 1,444 days prior in the semifinals of the 2021 edition against that year's champion, Aaron Wilson. That still remains his only loss at the event post 2018.

A two-time singles winner himself, the man affectionately known as 'Disco' will kick off his campaign on day two, with his opponents coming in the form of two Queenslanders in Alan Craggs and Matthew Blyth, as well as New South Wales' Zachary Miller.

Other former champions will also take their place in the draw, including 2015 champion Aaron Teys, 2018 winner Ryan Bester, 2014 conquerer Nathan Wilson and the inaugural winner from 2005 in Shane Globits.

When it comes to Right at Home Jackaroos, Corey Wedlock, Carl Healey, Lee Schraner, Cody Packer and Ben Twist will all be determined to add the singles trophy to their list of honours at the tournament, while Nick Cahill, Kane Nelson and Nathan Black are aiming to cement their names onto the Australian Open honour roll for the first time in their careers.

An in-form Jack McShane will look to disrupt the status quo once more with the Emerging Jackaroo fresh off his World Bowls Indoor Championships singles title in April, while his championship winning pairs teammate from 2024 in Joseph Clarke aims to add more silverware to his growing Australian Open collection.

2024 singles runner-up Cohen Litfin will be hoping to go one better, as will his fellow Emerging Jackaroos in Jack East, Tyson Cromie, Kyle Hansen, Dale McWhinney-Shillington and the 2023 silver medallist in Jacob Nelson.

Former Jackaroo and reigning fours champion Ray Pearse will be back, as will his winning teammates from twelve months ago in Gary Kelly and Peter Taylor, while two-time fours winner and Bowls Premier League (BPL) star Ryan Burnett will front up once again.

Barrie Lester, a champion in the 2018 pairs and 2023 fours disciplines, will also aim for a maiden singles title to add to his illustrious list of accolades, while another former Jackaroo in Matt Lucas will bid for success in his own campaign. Para Jackaroos Tony Bonnell and Damien Delgado take their place in the draw, as do a plethora of internationals such as Ali Forsyth, Aiden Takarua, Sheldon Bagrie-Howlie, Olle Backgren, Pontus Palmkvist and Izzat Dzulkeple.

An abundance of other noteworthy names are littered across the gargantuan field, including Josh Walker-Davis, Riley Gerick, Flynn O'Shaughnessy, Chris Rosanes, Cooper Sutton, Kevin Anderson and Stuie Whyte.

Defending women's singles champion Laura Butler will be ready to go come game time, poised to face 2024's under-18 girl's singles runner up in Anda Panchawat, South Australia's Renata Callisto and New South Wales' Deborah Hood.

After falling to Butler in last year's decider, Kelsey Cottrell will be aiming for a fourth straight final appearance and third title to add to her 2009 and 2022 triumphs.

Her initial challenges come in the form of Western Australia's Joanne Watson, New South Wales' Lynne Tarrant and New Zealander Cheryl Calder.

Two-time champion and reigning pairs winner Ellen Fife takes her place in the draw, as does 2023 champion Cassandra Millerick, who has drawn Emerging Jackaroo Kira Bourke in her section.

2022 runner up Dawn Hayman looking to claim one of the biggest titles of her career to date, especially after falling just short of a second final twelve months ago.

After winning her maiden Australian Open title in the pairs with Fife last year, Kristina Krstic will be striving to add another gold medal to her list having previously made the singles final on one occasion.

The Western Australian's section is one of the most stacked in the draw, with Rebekah Lord, Emerging Para Jackaroo Annette Ruffle and Victoria's Clair Smyth awaiting.

Krstic's fellow Jackaroos in Brianna Smith, Kylie Lavis and Jamie-Lee Worsnop will all bid for their own glory, as will Emerging Jackaroos in Sophie Kurzman, Jessie Cottell, Olivia Cartwright and Samantha Ferguson. Para Jackaroos Cheryl Lindfield and Serena Bonnell are ready to create more history, while Emerging Para Jackaroos Jodie Nikolic will take her place in a stacked draw.

Former Jackaroo Chloe Stewart will look to continue the rich vein of form that she has carried for the last 18 months, while two-time pairs champion Noelene Dutton will also take her place in the draw.

New Zealand Commonwealth Games bronze medallist Selina Goddard has been placed in a tough section, headlined by 2022 pairs champion and now Gold Coast native Olivia Bloomfield, while reigning fours winner Kelly McKerihen takes her place in the draw on greens where she carries supreme form.

2023 World Bowls Championships singles winner Tayla Bruce is an imposing figure in the draw, while reigning fours winners Emma Boyd, Louise Cronan and Leanne Chinery will front up for more silverware.

Former under-18 singles winner Reese Finn-Young will be looking to make a run in the open field, as will reigning girl's singles champion Akasha Fortune.

World Champions Ellen Falkner MBE, Carmen Anderson, Aleena Ahmad Nawawi and Nur Ain Nabilah Tarmizi headline some of the other big names in the field, as does 2024 semifinalist Sharon Cavanagh.

Former Jackaroo and Queensland local Bolivia Millerick will look to add another title for her family, while Western Australia's Lisa Featherby, Queensland's Wendy Wilson Victoria's Tris Doolan round out a huge list of players contesting for the title.
