Dear Editor,
Iamwriting to assure local residentsthat their elected representativesare still hard at work evenwhentheirlegislative bodiesare not sitting. Just likelocal government representatives,MLAsandMPs work year-round (asidefroma standardfew days ofannual leave)whilethe Legislative Assembly in Victoria and ParliamentinOttawaare in recess.
Thefocusofthe representative’s role simplyshifts. Whilethe Legisin session my
work ismostly focusedonexaminingand debatingproposed legislationandmeeting withprovincialorganizationsandother representatives. Outsideofthese sessions, we havemoretime to hearfromlocalconstituents, stakeholdersandorganizationsin our respectivecommunities.
Bothareimportantfunctionsofthe role, as my work intheconstituencyplaysa large part ininforming my work inthe Leg, and vice versa.
Ourprovincialconstituencyofficeisopen year-round. Constituents candropin at the Squamish Adventure Centre between10am and3pm,emailat jeremy.valeriote.mla@ leg.bc.ca, phone 778-655-5768, or1-888424-1658(tollfree line).

The Hearth Gallery welcomes back Bowenartists Guthrie GloagandArt by Difortheir secondcollaboration, Return to Nature (July16 to August 4,2025).Diand Gloagexplore themes ofcoexistence, perseveranceandwhat is ‘natural’ inamodern world, through two very differentlenses andmediums.
Gloag, a sculptor, most well-known forthe Bowen Mastodon, useshis backgroundinbiology asa starting pointforcreatingaccurateandlife size sculpturesofanimals outof reclaimeddriftwood. His work invitesviewers to walkamongthesecreaturesandcontemplate theirplace amongsttheminthe natural world.
Where Gloag’sformsaregroundedandtactile,Di’s paintings stand out witha rushofcolourandfluidity.Asa selftaughtartistDi reliesheavilyonaddingher own touch to what she seesinthe Pacific Northwestthat she callshome. You may recognizeher signature styleonthe Bowen Island Ferry mural, whereshe wasa keycontributor. Her paintings utilize large twistinglinesofcolour to build windingtrees andshorelinescreatingmovementandlifein everypiece, showingthat nature isanything but static.
