The Bowen Island Event Planner is a labour of love and it feels joyful to put together what is in essence an island-hosting almanac, a gathering of the people and places on our Happy Isle (early nickname from Union Steamship Days) that visitors and locals alike can use to celebrate anniversaries, birthdays, engagements, weddings and corporate events.

It is all about being here on Bowen and if you are looking to discover the right people and place for your celebration, the 2025 planner has new and shiny possibilities. It also has possibilities that have been here since the passenger ferry sailed on its first voyage across Howe Sound.

New locales this year include the just-opened Bowen Island Community Centre, available to host events small and large. Also new is Tippy’s Cookhouse, a venue right by the ferry, ready to make your gathering a great success.

The Art of the Party has long been a part of what this island offers and the possibilities that have always been here remain, choices like Endswell Farm, a magnificent backdrop for a celebration, with farm animals and farm-to-table meals, and the Union Steamship Marina Resort, with accommodations, a restaurant and plenty of space to party.

While here you can also take your group on wonderous hikes, tour the island on Bowen E-Bikes, try cider-tasting at the Bowen Cider House, charter a fishing boat with Bowen Island Boat Charters and tour surrounding islands with Mountain Tide Adventures. You can even experience a sauna and cold plunge at Mist Thermal Sanctuary, that while nestled in a forest.

The look on Michelle’s face as she walked into the party~ pure joy and surprise. Seeing her reaction made all the planning and effort completely worth it.

Watching our family home transform into a magical wonderland. Every detail was carefully curated to celebrate Michelle in a way that reflected her elegance and warmth.

What do friends still talk about?

The food! ~ Jessica, our caterer from the Ruddy Kitchen, was outstanding—every dish was beautifully prepared and thoughtfully chosen. The presentation was impeccable, making the meal feel just as special as the occasion.

The décor and table setting ~ a perfect blend of simplicity and elegance. Basia has an extraordinary gift for creating beautiful spaces.

Any advice?

Hire local! and make the event a reflection of the person you’re celebrating . As a host, don’t get too caught up in perfection ~ enjoy your guests, the space you’ve created, and the special occasion you’ve brought to life.

Doing it on Bowen meant.... It allowed us all to come together in a way we don’t often get to. It was a rare and special opportunity to slow down, connect, and truly celebrate without the distractions of everyday life.

Two things guests continually rave about: the food and the location. Pizza, pasta, salads, mountain views, ocean, and a lot of love—pretty special. Plus, the purple flowers in Tuscany were in full bloom, making everything feel even more magical.

Two things guests continually rave about: the food

One of my favourite moments was walking down the aisle, seeing all the people we love so much, and taking in the gorgeous backdrop of the mountains and ocean in Snug Cove. Right after our ceremony finished, the ferry was leaving the cove and so we ran to the dock to take pictures. Some of our favourite photos are of us celebrating in front of the ferry—pure joy captured forever.

Given that we had friends and family travel from all over the world, the majority of our guests had never been to Bowen! They still talk about the adorable deer family that paid us a visit at Tuscany. To me, it looked like a mother and her baby who wanted to join in on the celebrations—but they kept their distance, grazing peacefully in the field across from the restaurant.

Was there a lifesaver moment?

The amazing people that helped our day run smoothly. Our incredible photographer Gabi, Basia from Bowen Event Rentals, Sarah-Jane and her team at Tuscany, and the countless neighbours and friends that cheered us on throughout the weekend. Oh and another huge lifesaver? The leftover Tuscany pizza we devoured on the bus ride back to our accommodation. Absolute perfection.
