INTRODUCTION
From the start of my graduation project, I have been trying to engage myself with the subject in different ways. My aim was to educate myself on the subject through literature, but even more important to get in touch with the target group. By doing ethnographic research, I wanted the target group to become participants in my graduation. By reading, observing and talking, I charged myself with content and developed enough confidence to translate the research into a design.
In addition, I get a lot of pleasure and inspiration from making physical studies. For this reason, I spent a lot of time in my atelier experimenting with new techniques. By making models, I was able to steer my process in the direction that led to my final project. Not only making scale
models has taken me further in the process, but also making 1:1 mockups has given me knowledge about feasibility.
While sketching, I was able to translate my idea from drawing to model. The inspiration I took from Constant Nieuwenhuys, the harbour area, temporary installations, metal and wood, Lo-Tek, the corner cast, identification and presence, history, mechanical repetition, pressing and casting and, above all, the people, enriched my project and made it into het Statushuis.
For me, the most valuable aspect of the project is the layered process in which interim products were created. The temporary aspect that has no end was woven into the process and is ultimately also the essence of het Statushuis.
