Holidays Lights at the Beach

Virginia Beach | Oceanfront New this year enjoy shorter lines with timed entry. Guests purchase tickets online, in advance and for a designated time slot. Guests navigate their vehicles through holiday, nautical and adventurethemed light displays on the Virginia Beach boardwalk, listening on their radios to a soundtrack playing traditional holiday music. Festive fish, musical crabs and hard-working elves—all in brightly colored lights against the moonlit Atlantic Ocean—are the stars of the BayPort Credit Union Holiday Lights at the Beach. They are joined by Santa taking off from the pier, a 40-foot tall dancing light Christmas tree, fish “swimming” overhead, colorchanging archways, and light displays that honor the region’s strong armed forces community. New this year, immerse yourself in the dazzling RGB tunnel, an exhilarating explosion of seemingly endless lights. This is a ticketed event. Norfolk | Elizabeth River Trail Virginia Beach | Pleasure House Point Natural Area Created by Pulitzer Prize-winning composer and sound artist Ellen Reid, SOUNDWALK is a GPS-enabled work of public art that uses music to illuminate the natural environment. The experience is guided by the listener. The path you choose dictates the music you hear, with no two visits exactly the same. Install the free app and download the location of your choice to explore the area, triggering musical cells carefully crafted to harmonize with the landscape and attractions. Reid’s cinematic score was rendered remotely by a patchwork of artists from across the country, tailored specifically for each location. Made in Virginia, Shaping Memories: Expressions in Clay, and Agnes Grochulska: Archetypes Art Exhibits

Virginia Beach | Virginia Museum of Contemporary Art Made in VA features 30 photographers and is juried by a curator with a national purview, providing Virginia artists with often hard-to-achieve national visibility. In Shaping Memories: Expressions in Clay, six artists use clay to explore not only formative moments in their lives but also stories passed down through generations. In her exhibit, Richmond-based painter Agnes Grochulska uses the concept of Carl Jung archetypes as a starting point in her investigations, putting forth her interpretation of the archetypes while encouraging viewers of the work to do the same.
