TRY THIS WEEK: Black Bean Burger @ Caffè Sole
BLACK BEAN BURGER, $12. Caffè Sole, 637R S. Broadway, Boulder, 303-499-2985, caffesole.com
Caffè Sole has been doing great work during the pandemic, raising funds from the community in order to prepare and deliver 3,400 meals to the Sister Carmen Community Center. It’s a mutually beneficial arrangement, as the community donations allowed Caffè Sole to keep its doors open while those in need got meals. About these meals — we chose the black bean burger from the restaurant’s menu of sandwiches, salads and more on a recent visit. Served on a pressed brioche bun, the vegan burger puts other plantbased substitutes to shame with its earthy flavor and substantial chew. The salsa roja, pico de gallo, avocado and mixed greens on top are fresh and vibrant.

Drink this: Oskar Blues Brewery’s Slow Chill Munich-style Helles
THE MOST RECENT addition to Oskar Blues’ European-inspired lager series, Slow Chill, is a classic Munich-style helles: Pale straw color with a slight chill haze, a rocky head of foam and a sweet mouth of cereal grains. There’s enough of a hop presence to keep the brew from tipping toward sickly sweet, and the crisp, clean lager finish makes it an ideal quaff for a toasty afternoon. And at 5% ABV, you can knock back a couple and still keep your wits about you this Father’s Day. More lager recommendations for Pop on page 25.

Flagstaff House reopens with new menu
FLAGSTAFF HOUSE reopened at its iconic spot in the foothills this week with a new menu from Executive Chef/Partner Chris Royster. The new menu includes Spanish octopus puttanesca, with crispy potatoes, castelveltrano olives, white anchovies and sweet peppers, and country-style venison torchon with cornichons, house pickles, whole-grain Dijon mustard and brioche toast. There’s also an allnew cocktail menu with modern takes on classic drinks. Both the three-course menu and the multi-course Chef’s Tasting Menu have undergone revisions.
