That warm, fuzzy feeling

T

hink of the relationships you have with the things you buy. Chances are, those one-of-kind items you picked up from a small shop off the Pearl Street Mall, Longmont’s Main Street or Historic Downtown Lousiville hold greater sentiment than whatever was in those stacks of Amazon boxes you bought late at night because it was 42% off. We are up to our ears in junk. And most of it is junk — massproduced, cheaply made and heartlessly consumed. It might fill the emotional gaps in your life for a few fleeting moments when you first unwrap it, but then you’re stuck with it: another thing to dust, another thing to move. And you can’t for the life of you recall why you bought it in the first place. That’s why we love local. These are the gifts you love and the Boulder Weekly

gifts you remember. You can give them to family members living far away, and they’ll think of you every time they see it or use it. And should you treat yourself — these are the things that’ll fill your home with life and love, not clutter and chaos. When Marie Kondo comes to raid your closet, she’ll know to leave these goodies behind. ’Tis the season for shopping, so start local in Boulder County. It’ll support your neighbors’ hopes and dreams, keep money in your community, cut down on packaging and transportation costs, and give you a warm, fuzzy feeling. That’s why we shop in the first place, isn’t it? And, as a bonus, we’ve included a calendar of holiday events and happenings to partake in while you’re out there shopping for loved ones (see page 14). It’s gonna be a busy month, don’t forget to take a breath, relax and enjoy the season. Happy Holidays. l

his holiday season, consider a gift to a local nonprofit! Boulder Valley Women’s Health Center (Women’s Health), is your locally founded, locally run, independent provider of reproductive and sexual health care. Founded in 1973 as the first abortion clinic in Colorado, our services have expanded over the years to include a full range of reproductive health care for adults and teens of all genders. As a locally based clinic, Women’s Health is responsive to the needs of our community. This year, we withdrew from Title X (the federal family planning program), rather than comply with the Trump administration’s gag rule. We continue to use other sources of funding to provide most of our services on a sliding scale based on income, assuring that everyone — regardless of income, insurance, immigration status, age, gender identity or sexual orientation — has access to high-quality care.

tarting a CBD marketplace company has been a project based in education, both about the products — who makes it and why — and what the consumer should know about them. Education is a big part of what Boulder-based Infused, A CBD Marketplace, does. When shopping for CBD remember that CBD is a general wellness product, it’s good for a lot of things. Though as a company we also carry formulated products with different herbs and cannabinoids that are found to interact with your CB1 and 2 receptors better. So when shopping for CBD at our store, we don’t just want to sell you a single brand, we want to find you the right product for your health and wellness concerns. Helping yourself to better health and wellness is a journey and we are here to help you along that path. Just like traditional remedies, finding the right product and dose is a process and we believe that the same is true with cannabinoid-based products. Give us a call, send an email, stop in the store, but remember not all CBD products or stores are the same or have the same objective.

The Christmas Revels: A Midwinter Night’s Revels Gordon Gamm Theater, Dairy Arts Center, 2590 Walnut St., Boulder rockymountainrevels.org

T

is the season once again for The Christmas Revels, playing Dec. 20 through 26 at the Gordon Gamm Theater in the Dairy Arts Center. This family friendly holiday performance features a cast of adults and children along with the Boulder Renaissance Consort and the Solis Singers’ Mo Bailey and Max McKee bringing songs and dances of the Elizabethan era. Each performance is replete with audience sing-alongs and a traditional Mummers’ Play. The Christmas Revels is an annual production that has become a Boulder holiday tradition, each year featuring music, dances and stories of Christmas and the winter solstice from different cultures. This year’s original show finds faeries and woodland sprites attempting to force holiday cheer on a grumpy Shakespeare who is determined to destroy his plays, as his literary creations resist his efforts. Journey with our troupe of players back to Merry Olde England for a fun-filled evening that signals “the holidays are here!”
