BOULDER CHAMBER TODAY
s we entered 2021, there was a feeling of hope in the air — the hope that we would be returning to business as usual, back to the lives we had all been missing for so long. It seemed we had arrived at the end of a long tunnel. Instead, we were dealt with more blows: more of the COVID-19 pandemic, more government-mandated shutdowns, and more tragedies, starting the year with the King Soopers mass shooting and ultimately concluding with the Marshall Fire. Responding to the many pressing challenges and difficult circumstances was like navigating through a maze, between the urgent need to begin the recovery process, growing customer demands, ever-changing public health
protections, and the impact of the devastating events in our community. We know that for business leaders like you and for your workforce, the challenge was one of exhaustion, complication, and, for many, burnout. With honesty and frankness (we won’t say “resiliency” — you’ve heard enough of that word), we took into account the most immediate needs of our businesses and the evolving economic circumstances to face these challenges head on. We listened to you and your concerns, which served as our guiding compass in the discovery of solutions that would propel our community towards recovery. We helped secure direct financial assistance for those of you who were in dire

straits, shared information about shifting public health guidelines, and worked sideby-side with you to address the impact the past two years have had on your business operations. All studies show that the economic consequences of the global pandemic have been inequitable. While some businesses thrived over the past two years, many businesses in our community — and our workforce — fell further behind. So, we recalibrated our Boulder Together initiative to better address the systemic inequalities that were exacerbated by the pandemic. You also helped us double down on efforts to make Boulder more welcoming for underrepresented businesses and for a diverse workforce.
Together, we worked to create a more supportive environment for every businesses to thrive. While there is still much more to accomplish, our partnership with you, as a Boulder Chamber member, has sustained a vital economy that serves a broader agenda: to build a strong and vibrant community for all.
We’re proud that the Boulder Chamber serves in this role as a citadel of support for our businesses and community during these unprecedented times. In that manner, we are building on a legacy spanning more than 100 years of historic highs and lows. Continuing that legacy, the Boulder Chamber remains grounded in our unwavering commitment to being the number one partner in your business success. As we look towards the year ahead, we’ll continue to provide tailored solutions to address your unique business needs and develop strategies that elevate our local economy on the path toward a brighter future ahead. Thank you for your passion and persistence in making Boulder a thriving community, especially amidst today’s ongoing challenges. Your business plays such an important role in our economy, and you have been a shining light for us throughout these dark times. We wish you personal health and business success in 2022, and we will be by your side every step of the way.

Over and over again, we heard from members like you about your hopes for returning to normal business operations, your challenges of staying afloat in today’s economy, and your need to begin the postpandemic recovery process. You had to juggle growing customer demands, strategic goals, public health protection orders, and evolving workforce dynamics — in addition to the ongoing business responsibilities already on your plate.

Navigating the everchanging COVID-19 guidelines
We heard from many of you who were struggling to find reliable sources of information on the COVID-19 public health orders, interpret what they meant for your business, and implement those necessary changes. You asked, and we listened. The development is located conveniently along a major transit corridor, which will simplify commutes and promote public transportation. Grano says, “We were proud to support the Waterview development team in their efforts to secure approval for this project of great significance to our affordable housing efforts.”
Throughout the annexation discussions, University officials have also primarily committed to a village-style housing development of 1,100 homes and units on the CU South campus for University faculty, staff, and non-Freshman students. As rental and for-sale housing across Boulder have skyrocketed, this is a significant step in providing accessible accommodation for a diversity of residents.
