Hey you. Yeah you. What are you doing? You’re reading this rag, duh. Nice job. You know, the ONLY way this here wordy dishcloth gets birthed, along with the countless off-the-chain HASSLE events covered herein, is through the steadfast and pure intentioned hard work of people just like you. A thankless job? Barely. We have fun. We stay up late. We hang out and write and scheme and connive together and little by little all this crazy shit gets did. You want in on the madness? Then you’re invited to the Hassle’s New Volunteer Orientation: Tuesday, 10/21 at 7pm @TBD. Questions? Just go to BostonHassle.com/Volunteer and we’ll see ya soon! - Zach Peckham

Owen Maercks - Teenage Sex Therapist LP In 1978, if you were into out sounds, it was because you had a semi-lousy personality. Maercks had one, so he met everybody else who was the same. He tried out for Human Sexual Response & the Girls in Boston, played in MX80 briefly, made a record with Eugene Chadbourne. But mostly he was friends with fellow guitar abuser Henry Kaiser. Kaiser invited Maercks to visit California & record some too-smart, too-angry Roxy Music/Talking Heads pop originals. Maercks threw in Television-style protopunk as a bonus. Issued by Feeding Tube in Western Mass. Get it at Weirdo. - Angela Sawyer

You May Be Boston’s Next Big Film Star, Do Somethin’ About It! Are you the next Jodorowsky or Sion Sono? I think you might be! If you’ve finished a film (be it a short or feature length project), give it a shot! There are plenty of festivals coming up and they could screen YOUR work. Many of these festivals happen in March – which is closer than you might think. The submission dates are even closer. So take a chance and think about submitting to the BOSTON STUDENT FILM FESTIVAL or, if you’re feeling lucky, give it a whirl with the infamous BOSTON UNDERGROUND FILM FESTIVAL (regular submission starts 10/6)! - Ariel Shvartsman

Winter is coming weather you like it or not. Time stock up on some zines! Cross the river if ya wanna see what independent publishing is all about at TWO free festivals over TWO weekends! On 10/4 & 10/5 it’s the 5th annual MASSACHUSETTS INDEPENDENT COMIC EXPO (M.I.C.E.) over @Lesley’s University Hall in Porter Sq with 150 creators, workshops, panel discussions & more at MICExpo.org. nt Revamp JP Skate Park with DCR Gra

Starting in spring 2015, construction of the new JP skatepark will commence with the help of FANCY LAD SKATEBOARDS, the DCR and Converse. The DCR will be matching an already sizeable donation from Converse to revamp this sick spot for skating and chilling. Thanks to Doug Moore and his company Colonial Technologies, the park is currently skateable and will be accessible to the public until the renovation begins. Go forth and shred. Be sure to keep tabs on the Fancy Lad crew, they’re out there breakin’ bones and creating zones for our lucky domes. - FancyLadSkateCo.blogspot.com - Natalie Roosa

Crash Safely 2014: A Benefit for the National MS Society The spirit of self-organization and righteous do-goodism is sewn into the seams of New England’s incomparable coat of music and art. And it has a lot to teach us about how to live. CRASH SAFELY, a series of shows happening 10/10 @Midway Café and 10/17 @MidEastUp, will channel the healing forces of rock n’ roll into a fundraising hadouken and aim it right at destroying Multiple Sclerosis. The event has been organized by Boston rockers and bookers whose lives have been touched by MS in some way, and now it just needs YOU to come make it awesome. Hit CrashSafely.org for tickets and more info. - Zach Peckham

h By Palberta S

Here’s the sitch: Shitheads in a Ditch, the freshest denary of MPEG-3s crafted by the NY-based trio PALBERTA, rips like the tag off a mattress: a mattress made of wicked discordance and satisfying irresolution, fitted with a fascia of seraphic-toned sheets, upon which a pyramid of baby-talking body pillows & shrieking micro-raschels snaps to grid. While also yet to be corporeally available, their previous document My Pal Berta will soon be birthed upon wax through yr pals at FEEDING TUBE RECORDS. Watch them fuck off, roll around, and decimate yr previous idea of what a “dope set” was 11/8 @HASSLE FEST 6. PalbertaPalberta.bandcamp.com - Anthony Richards
