, r e d a e R r Dea During a particularly challenging month, I wanted to discover the words we draw strength from each day, the memories that we hold closest to heart. I hope this little book inspires something in you, if you need it. I implore you to carry it around, to live deeply and find some words to live by. Use the last pages for that. “He who would climb a ladder must begin at the bottom,” from Haruichi Furudate. Very similarly: “If I am worth anything later, I am worth something now,” once penned by Vincent Van Gogh. 4

It’s comforting to ground myself in faith and remember that life is ultimately out of our control.

Try your best, but don’t get caught up in the outcome.

We are meant to show up as our authentic selves and take up space. Especially in rooms where we are the minority, we shouldn’t make ourselves small for the comfortability of others, instead we should embrace our identities and each unique characteristic that makes us who we are. 15
