Welcome Back—Student Cohorts Return to Campus

Mൾඌඌൺ඀ൾ ൿඋඈආ ඍඁൾ Pඋൾඌංൽൾඇඍ Hello Tech family— Along with our faculty, it was my great privilege to recently welcome back to campus students in our Black and Gold hybrid-learning cohorts. We all have missed our students, and it was profoundly gratifying to see these young people in person, many of whom have grown taller since the last time we saw them in March 2020. We miss their classmates who continue to distance learn and look forward to seeing them soon!

I was especially happy to welcome our freshmen, who have not yet had the ‘normal’ high school experience of walking across campus, from class to class, and interacting with their classmates and instructors in a live setting. I’ve heard from several parents how much their sons enjoyed seeing classmates and teachers.

I’m thankful to the Lord that we’ve arrived at this juncture, and I know I speak for many when I say how much I’m looking forward to a full, in-person school experience for our students this coming fall.

We’re currently planning both a hybrid high school-level summer school, open to the community, as well as a hybrid Summer Scholar opportunity for seventh to eighth graders. We’ll be sharing more about each of these soon.

On May 15, we’ll host an in-person Freshman Tie Ceremony to officially welcome our newest family members! This very special occasion will be held outdoors and will strictly follow all health and safety guidelines. Seating will be adequately spaced and limited to three guests per student (4 people total). Details will soon be sent to all class of 2025 families.

And, on Saturday, June 5, we’ll celebrate the class of 2021 with an outdoor baccalaureate and graduation ceremony. More details about the socially distanced event will soon be sent to families of our seniors. While the guest list will be limited for each graduate, the ceremony will be livestreamed for extended family and friends to watch. Please join with me in praying for these young men as they leave Bosco Tech and prepare for their further studies across the country this fall.

As I hear about our seniors’ impressive college acceptances, generous scholarship offers, and intended majors, I am reminded of the remarkably mature resilience that has seen these students through a period that they will, undoubtedly, tell their future children and grandchildren about one day. They have not missed a step, and for that I’m truly grateful! Thank you for sharing these bright young people with us, and for allowing us to work with them daily.

Cඈൿൿൾൾ ඐංඍඁ ඍඁൾ Pඋංඇർංඉൺඅ Many thanks to the Bosco Tech Parent Council and all the parents and faculty members who attended the recent Coffee with the Principal event! With a spring-themed backdrop, it was a great gathering with helpful updates on several topics including the recent return to campus, freshman tie ceremony, graduation, and plans for a fully on-campus fall semester.

Sൾඇංඈඋ Aංൽൺඇ Cඁൺඏൾඓ Nൺආൾൽ Eൽංඌඈඇ Sർඁඈඅൺඋ IDEA senior Aidan Chavez has been named a 2021 Edison Scholar.

Aidan is one of 30 local high school seniors granted the honor that comes with a $40,000 scholarship by Edison International to pursue science, technology, engineering or math studies. All thirty Edison scholars will be celebrated in a virtual reception on May 21, 2021.

"The Edison Scholars class of 2021 is outstanding," said Pedro Pizarro, president and CEO of Edison International. "They are navigating school, leading organizations and securing internships, often while balancing jobs. That's difficult in any environment, let alone a pandemic. We are so proud to help these students pursue their STEM dreams."

Chavez, who plans to begin studies in mechanical engineering at Oregon State University this fall, was selected for the scholarship annually awarded to high-achieving high school seniors within Southern California Edison’s broad service area. The honor student is currently studying Integrated Design, Engineering & Art at Bosco Tech, and is active in the school’s National Honor Society, Youth Ministry Core Team, Ambassador program, American Society for Metals chapter, and the school’s Car Club. He has played on the soccer and cross country teams and served as captain of the tennis team.

“We’re incredibly proud of Aidan and his achievements,” said Bosco Tech President Memo Gutierrez. “He is truly representative of a dedicated Bosco Tech student. As he shared in his scholarship application, his desire to address climate change by making electric cars more efficient and accessible shows a great commitment to the preservation of our environment and natural resources. We’re grateful to Edison International for recognizing forward-thinking young people like Aidan and for their generosity. We’re thrilled that another of our students has earned this major honor.”

Hඒൻඋංൽ Lൾൺඋඇංඇ඀ Bൾ඀ංඇඌ!

Bosco Tech’s faculty and administration were thrilled to welcome back to campus students in the Black and Gold cohorts during the week of April 22. After health screenings and wellness checks, the campus community gathered to pray for the Lord’s blessings on the coming weeks.

Cohorts are limited in size to ensure maximum safety.

Students have been reminded of all health and safety protocol like keeping masks on, washing hands frequently, and maintaining safe social distancing. Bඈඌർඈ Tൾർඁ ASB: Sඉංඋංඍ Wൾൾ඄ —Bਙ Jਕ਌ਉਁ਎ Bਕਅ਎ਏ, Pਕਂ਌ਉਃ Rਅ਌ਁਔਉਏ਎ਓ ਆਏ਒ ASB Eਘਅਃਕਔਉਖਅ Cਏਕ਎ਃਉ਌ The final Spirit Week of the 2020-2021 school year took place from March 8–March 11. Spirit Week is a fun way for Tech students to express their creativity and wear something other than their uniform.

There was a large range of themes for each of the days throughout the week:  Starting with Slumber Monday, where you dress up in your pajamas.  Teacher Tuesday, where you dress up as your favorite teacher.  Disney Wednesday, where you dress up with Disneythemed products.  Finally, Tech Thursday, where you dress up in your tech colors, this time including our new tech BMET! Although this online event was the last for the class of 2021, they won by a landslide! To those who participated, ASB thanks you! We hope that the ASB board that takes after this year may continue this tradition and motivate even more students to participate! Bඈඌർඈ Tൾർඁ Fඈඈඍൻൺඅඅ 2020-2021 A Tൾඌඍൺආൾඇඍ ඈඍ Fൺංඍඁ Tඁඋඈඎ඀ඁ Aൽඏൾඋඌංඍඒ —Bਙ Hਅਁ਄ Fਏਏਔਂਁ਌਌ Cਏਁਃਈ Rਁਕ਄਒ਉਃ Cਕ਒ਔਉਓ

In March 2020, all of our lives changed forever as a new virus and sprawling pandemic hit the world by storm. We had just entered our offseason training and were looking forward to growing our capabilities to be more competitive than the year before seeking constant improvement through hard work and dedication. Schools were closed, the health department shut gyms and fields down, forcing everyone to adapt to a new reality. Many programs and players lost interest and priorities shifted to the very life, health, and safety of us all because of the COVID-19 threat.

Our football players, staff, and administration immediately adapted scheduling zoom workouts three times a week for several months. We, as a football program, continued to develop physically, mentally and spiritually placing all faith in our Christ Lord that we would have some hope to play football this year.

Through major setbacks and raised safety concerns, we remained faithful. After we could reopen, the parent and community jumped into action to support our young men hosting adjusted “summer conditioning” sessions. With no guarantee that we would have a season, our young men remained faithful and dedicated.

When the covid pandemic hit its worst stage and it forced us to go back to Zoom, our young “Techmen” remained faithful and dedicated.

Then our prayers were answered, by the grace of Jesus Christ, and we could play a shortened two-game season. Our young men were ready. We played the Web Schools first which is a perennial playoff team and battled in a tough contest in which our young men represented themselves with class, pride, and grit. We lost by one touchdown, but held our heads high and got back to work on improving, determined to get better and win the next game.

St. Monica was our last game, and they were good. A large roster, big players, and a history of success did not deter our Tigers. We played one of the best games I’ve ever been a part of at Bosco Tech and our seniors led the 2020-2021 football program to its first victory of the season and an improvement .500 record which is a 40% increase from last season. The Bosco Tech football program is back and ready to continue its growth for next season and it’s all thanks to the faith and dedication of this year’s 2020-2021 football team.

Iඇ-Pൾඋඌඈඇ Fඋൾඌඁආൺඇ Tංൾ Cൾඋൾආඈඇඒ ංඌ Mൺඒ 15 —Cਅ਌ਅਂ਒ਁਔਉ਎ਇ ਔਈਅ C਌ਁਓਓ ਏਆ ‘24 The Bosco Tech community is pleased to announce that we will be celebrating this year’s Freshmen Tie Ceremony on Saturday, May 15, at 9 a.m. This special occasion will be an in-person, socially distanced, outdoor event on the Tech campus.

In order to provide a safe environment for all in attendance, we are limiting capacity to three family members per freshman student (4 total people).

Sඎආආൾඋ Sർඁඈඅൺඋඌ ൿඈඋ 7ඍඁ-8ඍඁ Gඋൺൽൾඋඌ Registration for the Tech's popular Summer Scholar program will soon be available through the school's FACTS family portal; new users will be prompted to create an account.

This year, the hands-on exploration program, tailored to seventh to eighth grade boys, is available in both a virtual and an in-person format. The five-week program runs June 21-July 23.
