Mൾඌඌൺ඀ൾ ൿඋඈආ ඍඁൾ Pඋൾඌංൽൾඇඍ Dear Bosco Tech Family— Undoubtedly, you’ve received the Tech Fund appeal in the mail. This year, we’re honoring two staff members and two students who are representative of the many invaluable individuals who help make the Tech the vibrant community it is, and one for which I am truly grateful. In this year’s appeal piece you’ll see:  Mr. Brad Stolz who has essentially dedicated a life of service to the Tech and its students. He is a fabled favorite among generations of alumni for his unflappable adventurer’s spirit that he shares in his travels with students, and his steadfast presence on campus.  Ms. Christine Gambill, who, as Director of College Advising and a newer member of our community, has jumped right in, guiding our seniors as they navigate the complex but crucial college application process onto the next part of life.  Senior Amar Kumar, whose academic accomplishment is surpassed only by his outstanding dedication to making the Tech community a better place. If you get a chance, ask him about the many clubs and service groups he helps lead.  Junior Christian Figueroa whose innovative work to help senior citizens access and understand internet technology was featured in November’s issue of The Gear.

While the list of noteworthy folks is long, these individuals represent the caliber of outstanding character that is evident every day on campus. We celebrate those who give so much of themselves to the betterment of the Tech and its students.

The Tech Fund, an important way for alumni, parents, and friends of the Tech to give back, does many things, including:  Keeping the Tech at the forefront of education in the country.  Allowing the school to defray the large costs of constantly updating our state-of-the-art, nationally

unique programs.  Helping us make sure we can keep tuition at an affordable level for our families.  Helping our students break barriers and become leaders in engineering, science, and technology.

2021 Bඅൺർ඄ & Gඈඅൽ Gൺඅൺ, “Bൺർ඄ ඍඈ Bඋඈൺൽඐൺඒ” Bosco Tech’s 2021 Black & Gold Gala, “Back to Broadway,” was an amazing evening of glitz and glamour, raising funds to help hard-working students. Longtime instructors Dr. Jorge Calienes and Mrs. Elizabeth Allison with this year’s honorees. Thanks to donors, volunteers, the planning committee, staff, and all in attendance.

ൾSඉඈඋඍඌ Tൾൺආ ආൾආൻൾඋ Lൾൺൽඌ ංඇ Nൺඍංඈඇ Congratulations to Brandon Bocanegra (MAT ‘23), Bosco Tech junior and varsity eSports team member! Brandon is currently ranked #1 in the nation in CIF/PlayVS League Madden competition. With a perfect score of 11-0, he has not lost a single point the entire season.

When Brandon has a little downtime between his studies and team commitments, the active junior enjoys art, photography, playing bass guitar, and working on cars. He says MAT is the perfect place for him because it allows him to “freely express my creative ideas, while at the same time learn new skills and ways to create that art.”

And Brandon loves Bosco Tech and the sense of brotherhood among his classmates. “No one here is just friends, they are family,” he says. “That bond is unmatched and priceless!"

Hඈඇඈඋ Sඈർංൾඍංൾඌ & Cඅඎൻඌ Hඈඌඍ Dංൺ Dൾ Lඈඌ Mඎൾඋඍඈඌ Fඎඇൽඋൺංඌൾඋ Many thanks to everyone who supported the Tech's National Honor Society, Sociedad Honoraria Hispánica, FRC Robotics Team, Red Cross, and Spanish Club's Dia De Los Muertos fundraiser. The fun festivities include delicious traditional desserts and drinks, and a raffle for free dress certificates. All proceeds from the festive day will directly help each of the student-run clubs and honor societies.

Oඉൾඇ Hඈඎඌൾ 2021 What a great—albeit warm—day it was for the Tech community when we welcomed guests to the campus for Open House on Nov. 14. Hundreds of prospective students and their families toured the facilities and witnessed our students in action.

Aൽඏൺඇർൾൽ Pඅൺർൾආൾඇඍ Uඉൽൺඍൾ Did you know that 40 percent of the Bosco Tech student body are currently enrolled in our Advanced Placement program? They are taking one, or more, of the sixteen AP courses the Tech currently offers. These potentially college credit classes are taught in the Sophomore, Junior, and Senior years, and, if the prerequisites are met, have included freshmen as well.

An International program of the College Board, Advanced Placement provides an opportunity for high school students to experience the challenges and rewards of College-level instruction while remaining on their home campus. Every Tech student is encouraged to enroll in at least one AP course during their Tech career, many choose to enroll in multiple courses.

This past Spring, 126 students sat for 249 AP exams, resulting in 15 Techmen being designated by the College Board as AP Scholars for their extraordinary performance. Of these students, nine achieved the rank of "Scholar," two were awarded "Honors" status, and four were named to the highest level possible as "Scholars with Distinction."

Enrollment for the 2022-2023 AP program will take place early next semester. If your son chooses to accept the AP challenge, he should pay careful attention to the daily bulletin for AP enrollment information, follow the instructions for applying, and meet the specific deadlines specified. Students will be notified of AP status before the end of the Spring semester. There is no added fee for admission to the AP program at the Tech, but all students are required to take the AP Exam administered in May of each academic year. The College Board assesses a fee, currently $96/exam, collected through FACTS. The Tech requires that students enrolled in AP courses to take the Exam as a condition to receive AP designation on their transcript and the benefit of a "weighted" GPA for the course. Further information regarding our AP program are included in a brochure accessible through this QR code.

Tiger Strike, the first boxing team in Bosco Tech history, had their exhibition, "Fight for Glory," at the CM Boxing Stables in Alhambra on Veterans Day to honor veterans. There were seven internal bouts, Black team vs Gold team, and seven medal winners.

The club began with 26 students and only 15 remained after three months of intense physical training and army combat leadership skills. The final bout was between Jose Cagungun (CSEE ’23) and Henry Yang (MSET ‘24). The picture below shows Jose throwing an extended right hand and Henry slightly out of reach. The fight was tied for the first two rounds and Henry reclaimed the fight with his endurance, composure and aggressiveness.

In the end, the boys who won their match received first place medals. Joe Mora (MSET ’23) received the Most Committed award, Theodore Truong (MSET ‘23) received Most Improved, and Jose Cagungun was named Most Inspirational.

The Eye of The Tiger Leadership award for all around excellence was awarded to Elijah Williams and Henry Yang.

The Bosco Tech Marching Band had a very busy month of November!

11/5 DBTI Football Game—Bosco Tech Tigers vs. Hamilton at Salesian High School. Opened with the National Anthem and performed during half time. It was a great evening, but unfortunately the Tigers lost. Congratulation to a great season, Tigers!

11/6 Annual Black and Gold Gala—Lead by our director, Mr. Sam Hankins, the Marching Band kicked off the evening’s festivities and lead those in attendance to the start of the event.

11/14 Bosco Tech Open House—It was great day performing for all the prospective students and their families who attended. We were able to promote our program and meet new people! Looking forward to seeing all the new faces on campus next year.

We would like to thank everyone who has helped and supported the music program this year! We would not have been able to continue successfully as we have without the support of the Bosco Tech community!

Rൾൾඇඋඈඅඅආൾඇඍ & Tඎංඍංඈඇ Aඌඌංඌඍൺඇർൾ ൿඈඋ 2022-2023 Sർඁඈඈඅ Yൾൺඋ Tuition Assistance: The online tuition assistance application for the 2022-2023 school year process for FACTS Grant & Aid is accessible through your Family Portal in the Financial tab. We encourage families in need only of Tuition Assistance to apply. For Returning families, the enrollment packet will need to be submitted before applying for Tuition Assistance.

Parents must apply annually online through FACTS Grant & Aid for Tuition Assistance located through your family portal. Tuition Assistance awards are valid for the year of application only. Assurance of an award is not guaranteed on an annual basis and depends on many factors, including available funding and application timing. If applying for a merit scholarship only, please do not apply through FACTS Grant & Aid; if your son qualifies, Mr. John Garcia will email you a merit scholarship application.

The deadline window to submit an online Tuition Assistance application through FACTS Grant & Aid is December 6, 2021—January 10, 2022. No exception will be made after the January 10 deadline.

Please follow the steps below: To apply online for tuition assistance through FACTS Grant & Aid, you will need to : 1. Log in to your FACTS Family Portal and select the Financial tab from the left side menu bar.

2. Select Apply for FACTS Grant & Aid; sign in with your FACTS Family Portal email and password.

3. Click on Start Tuition Assistance Application.

4. Select the appropriate school year (2022-2023).

5. Complete the steps as prompted and submit with the Grant & Aid processing fee of $35.

Please note: New Applicants will not be reviewed until all documentation is received and the fee paid. If your FACTS payment plan account is past due, your tuition assistance application may be denied. The Tuition Assistance program is designed to provide funds to eligible students from institutional and private funding sources and is limited.

Reenrollment: Reenrollment for the school year 2022-2023 will be available on December 6, 2021, through your FACTS Family Portal, with a deadline of January 10, 2022.

1. Log in to your FACTS Family Portal under the Apply/Enroll tab 2. Select the Enrollment/Reenrollment tab 3. Select Click Here to open enrollment 4. Click on the Start Enrollment packet.

Returning family’s enrollment packet will need to be submitted before applying for Tuition Assistance.

Enrollment Packets are pre-populated with information; please update or confirm the data and submit your enrollment packet by January 10, 2022. As stated in the enrollment contract, a $650 enrollment fee is charged to your FACTS payment plan and due with an automatic withdrawal from your account on February 25, 2022. Following charges are the student service fees of $750 in two payments of $375 on March 25, 2022, and April 22, 2022.

JPL Vංඌංඍඌ ඍඁൾ Tൾർඁ Many thanks to Mr. David Larriva, Air Force EOD and JPL Health and Explosives Safety Officer, for recently visiting MSET students and discussing with them life choices, careers, communication skills, and the importance of good team work. Mr. Larriva is a colleague and friend of Tech alumnus and MSET Chair Paul Ramirez (MS '02).

Rൾൽ Cඋඈඌඌ Cඅඎൻ Hඈඌඍඌ Sඎർർൾඌඌൿඎඅ Bඅඈඈൽ Dඋංඏൾ Bosco Tech’s Red Cross Club hosted the first in-person blood drive, in partnership with Cedar's Sinai Hospital, since 2019. The donor turnout was higher than expected, with 32 donors donating 30 pints of lifesaving blood.

The club kicks off a Homeless Veterans Hygiene Item Drive on December 2 that runs through the end of the month. A collection drive for refugees is planned for spring. The club also works on Disaster Preparedness education by encouraging members to attend online courses offered by the Red Cross.

Cross Country’s last regular season meet was the most important: Del Rey League Finals at Hollydale Regional Park in South Gate on November 3.

It is at this meet that the league champions are determined, as well as which top ten individuals would receive All League awards. Our competition included two of California’s top teams: Cathedral and Bishop Amat. Against these, our teams ran well; our JV team finished second in the league, with junior Nicholas Quezada and senior Mateo Nakano finishing among the top ten runners to win All League awards.

The varsity team, likewise, performed well and gained the league #3 spot with junior Christian Perez receiving a medal for varsity All League.

Our varsity team advanced to compete in post-season action at the CIF Southern Section Prelims at Mt SAC in Walnut on November 12. This was our first time since 2018.

The purpose of the prelims is to qualify teams for the CIF SS Finals. All teams consisted of seven varsity runners and five alternates. Although we did not reach our goal of qualifying for the CIF Finals, our varsity team consisted of five underclassmen and two seniors, with freshman Daniel Cendejas turning in the third best Mt SAC time for a freshman in the last 15 years, and junior Christian Perez finishing among the top 15 in our heat. We had 18 new team members this year, and if you exclude seniors, the best JV team in the league. We had five underclassmen on varsity. All of these are great indicators that our future looks bright for next year! Come, join us for track and field and get next year’s cross country season off to an early start.
