Mൾඌඌൺ඀ൾ ൿඋඈආ ඍඁൾ Pඋൾඌංൽൾඇඍ Dear Bosco Tech Community, Although this year has been a challenge, we have stayed focused on continuing our improvement and growth. Last year’s self-study and accreditation affirmed our plan to create a bold vision that will create long-term sustainability for the school and maintain the Tech’s respected position in education, industry, and leadership in Los Angeles.

During the month of September, we started our strategic planning process with our consultants from the Executive Service Corps (ESC). Working closely with ESC is our *planning committee, represented by board members, administrative staff, and one alumni/industry representative (see list below).

In October, we began examining our mission statement, with a goal to recalibrate it so it met the needs of today’s Tech and community.

November started phase two as we will spend the next two months collecting data and interviewing various stakeholders and organizations. Once the data is gathered, the team will analyze the information and begin to create the foundational goals of the strategic plan. While we’re scheduled to approve and share the overall strategic plan by June, I look forward to updating you of the on-going progress before then .

I hope you enjoyed reading the 2019-2020 annual report, encapsulating the year’s highlights and achievements. Individuals featured in the report, like our own Mrs. Darlene Nichols-Tom, represent the best of the Tech and what sets us apart! We are incredibly blessed by people like Mrs. Tom who have a proven, longterm commitment to our school and our students. I know that our accomplishments are due, in no small part, to the dedication and contributions of Tech community members like her.

As hard as it is to comprehend, it’s now the holiday season, and I want to wish you and your loved ones a festive Christmas and a happy, prosperous New Year. I’m praying that 2021 will be a year of tremendous blessing for your family and for the Tech community, as we continue to follow the Lord and celebrate our life in Him. 2020-2021 Aඉඉඋඈඏൾൽ Sൾඇංඈඋ Pඋංඏංඅൾ඀ൾඌ The following are the 2020-2021 approved privileges for current seniors.

1) Relaxed Dress every day –Seniors are allowed to be in relaxed dress every day during distant learning.

2) Allowing Hair Dye –Seniors are allowed to dye hair another natural color (blond, light brown, black, etc.) and that we can choose the style (highlights, all around, etc.)

3) Allowing Facial Hair – Seniors are able to grow out facial hair, and keep it well groomed (No beards from the Hobbit or James Harden!)

4) Allowing Earrings–Seniors are able to wear earrings. Only one stud earring per ear, with no multiple earrings and other piercings. (No eyebrow, lip, nose, gauges, ear stretching or plugs).

5) Leniency On Hair Length –Seniors are able to grow hair out past the length of the guidelines of the Bosco Tech handbook. Seniors must keep the hair wellgroomed and away from our eyes.

The students were invited to join the campus chapters because of demonstrated excellence in scholarship, leadership, service, and character. Aඅඎආඇඎඌ Aඋංඌ Gඈඏඃංൺඇ Pൾඇඌ Bඈඈ඄— Dඈඇൺඍൾඌ Pඋඈർൾൾൽඌ ඍඈ Cඁඋංඌඍංൺඇඌ ංඇ Aඋආൾඇංൺ Bosco Tech alumnus Aris Govjian (CS ‘09) recently wrote and published a book titled Spirits on the Mountain. It is a true story about Çatli Samel, the Armenian fighter and leader who repelled advancing Turkish armies for two years amid the first genocide of the twentieth century. The tale is especially timely as 150,000 Armenians now find themselves homeless, as winter rolls in, due to fighting in that same region. All proceeds from Aris’ book sales are going to the Armenia Fund that is helping house homeless individuals and provide medical supplies.

Aris tells us: I wrote, illustrated and published a short story titled “Spirits on the Mountain.”

It is a true story my father had shared with me about a folk hero who survived during one of the darkest times in his people’s history.

I was inspired to write this short story to share how even during the most difficult times, it is possible to come out from it, and be a hero to others. With his passing, I wrote it to honor my father, and I decided to donate 100% of the net proceeds to charity.

Tඎංඍංඈඇ Aඌඌංඌඍൺඇർൾ & Rൾൾඇඋඈඅඅආൾඇඍ ൿඈඋ 2021-2022 Sർඁඈඈඅ Yൾൺඋ Tuition Assistance: The online tuition assistance application for the 2021-2022 school year process for FACTS Grant & Aid is accessible through your Family Portal in the Financial tab.

Parents must apply annually online through FACTS Grant & Aid for Tuition Assistance located through your family portal. Tuition Assistance awards are valid for the year of application only. Assurance of an award is not guaranteed on an annual basis and depends on many factors, including available funding and application timing. We encourage families in need only of tuition assistance to apply. For merit scholarships only, please do not apply through FACTS Grant & Aid; if your son qualifies, Mr. Nolasco will email you a merit scholarship application.

The deadline to submit an online Tuition Assistance application through FACTS Grant & Aid is: December 4, 2020, thru February 5, 2021- No exception will be made after the deadline.

Please follow the steps below: To apply online for tuition assistance through FACTS Grant & Aid, you will need to 1. Login to your Family Portal and select the Financial tab 2. Select Apply for FACTS Grant & Aid; sign in with your family portal email and password. FACTS Grant & Aid processing fee is $35.

3. Click on Start Tuition Assistance Application.

4. Select the appropriate school year (2021-2022).

5. Complete the steps as prompted.

Please note: Applicants will not be reviewed until all documentation is received and the fee paid. If your FACTS payment plan account is past due, your tuition assistance application may be denied. The Tuition Assistance program is designed to provide funds to eligible students from institutional and private funding sources and is limited.

Reenrollment Reenrollment for the school year 2021-2022 will be available on December 5, 2020, through your family portal, with a deadline of January 31, 2021.

Enrollment Packets are pre-populated with information; please update or confirm the data and submit your enrollment packet by January 31, 2021. As stated in the enrollment contract, a $650 enrollment fee is charged to your FACTS payment plan and due with an automatic withdrawal from your account on February 26, 2021.

Following charges are the student service fees of $750 in two payments of $375 on March 26, 2021, and April 23, 2021.

DBTI MUSIC PROGRAM & BAND NEWS Tis the Season to Give Thanks!

—Bਙ Bਁ਎਄ Bਏਏਓਔਅ਒ Jਕ਌ਉਅ Pਁਔਉ਎ਏ Our Music Program and Band Students continue to stay busy! With practices weekly and one-on-one coach lessons twice a week, our students continue to stay strong throughout this pandemic. Of course, all practices and lessons are held virtually so our students remain safe while learning in the comfort of their homes. A shout out to Mr. Almanza, Coach Evan, Coach Pedro and Coach Thomas for ensuring that our band students continue to learn, grow and strengthen their music skills while distance learning.

Citadel Shopping Extravaganza Fundraiser Update Special thanks are in order! The Music Program and Band Boosters would like to thank everyone in the Bosco Tech Community for participating in our annual Citadel Shopping Extravaganza Fundraiser. This year, ticket holders had the opportunity to shop all month long, receive special discounts while shopping, plus be entered into grand prize raffles and have the opportunity to win $25 gift cards to the shops at the Outlet. Congratulations to all the gift card winners! The band will be receiving a check for approximately $2,400!

Join us in thanking and celebrating the Pasadena Showcase House of the Arts, which granted the Bosco Tech Music Program $8,000 this year to apply towards replacing our 30+ yearold marching band uniforms.

The PSHA has been a crucial partner in building the Bosco Tech Music Program over the past six years. In 2014, they sponsored the purchase of $10,000 worth of new instruments, which helped grow our small program from 10 students to over 100 students.

Thank you PSHA, for believing in the power of our music program. 2020 has been such a challenging year, and your grant has given us hope for a brighter future. Special thanks to Anne Sigoloff writing the grant.

Cඋൾൺඍංඏൾ Tൾൺർඁංඇ඀, Dൾൽංർൺඍൾൽ Tൾൺർඁൾඋඌ Creative teaching, dedicated teachers--during distance learning, Bosco Tech teachers have demonstrated their creativity and technology skills to interact with and unite students in their virtual classes. Using the Google Classroom platform, and Google Meet and Zoom video conferencing tools, teachers are engaging their students, using the most current tools available.

"Even though we're teaching remotely, I'm enjoying working with students online,” said Dr. Tony Arguelles. “The technology and resources make all the difference in the learning experience."

"While we miss seeing students face-to-face," said Tech Principal Jeff Krynen (BT '81), "I’m incredibly proud of how Tech instructors have adjusted the delivery of curriculum and expanded their range of technology to give the best education experience to students.”

Nൾඐඌ Fඋඈආ Cඈඎඇඌൾඅංඇ඀ Cൾඇඍൾඋ SENIORS (Class of 2021) Early decision and early action application notices will be announced in December. Seniors should closely monitor their incoming emails and standard postage mail for correspondence from colleges and universities. If information is requested, please contact Mr. Chavez at rchavez@boscotech.edu immediately so that a response can be completed as quickly as possible. Also, seniors are asked to report all college acceptances to senior counselor, Mr. Chavez.

SENIOR COLLEGE APPLICATIONS: Although many college application portals will close on November 30, several universities and colleges will continue to receive applications throughout December and thereafter for Fall 2021 admissions.

Please access the Common Application at www.commonapp.org, or contact Mr. Chavez to obtain college information regarding specific colleges.

SOPHOMORES (Class of 2023) Bosco Tech is planning on administering the PSAT exam to all 10 grade students on Tuesday, January 26, 2021. Please look for more detailed information regarding this testing event.

Sඍඎൽൾඇඍඌ Pඎඍ Fൺංඍඁ Iඇඍඈ Aർඍංඈඇ ඍඈ Hൾඅඉ Oඍඁൾඋඌ Cൺආඉඎඌ Cඅඎൻඌ Mൺ඄ൾ Sൾൺඌඈඇ Bඋං඀ඁඍ ൿඈඋ Kංൽඌ Bosco Tech’s National Honor Society, Sociedad Honoraria Hispanica, and Key Club are joined forces to help make Christmas brighter for children all over the world! Through a massive effort, the clubs’ members set a new school record, filling more than 280 shoeboxes for Operation Christmas Child, a ministry longsupported by students at the Tech.

First brought to the campus in 2014 by alumnus Grayson Wade (ACE ‘18), Tech students have donated hundreds of boxes filled with small gifts, school supplies, and personal hygiene items for the international relief organization Samaritan’s Purse. The program provides the gift boxes as a means of reaching children all over the world with the Gospel. Grayson Wade, who currently works part-time at the Tech as an assistant to the principal and helped our students get their boxes sorted for delivery, was chosen to travel to the Philippines a few years back to distribute the boxes personally and meet some of the recipients.

"The elation of the kids who received the boxes was almost indescribable,” Grayson said. “The whole group opened their boxes at the same time and let out laughs and cheers. Some kids cried because they were so happy while others immediately started playing with the items in the boxes. At all of our distribution locations, several kids were converted to Christianity on the spot. When students participate in this project, they are participating in something so much bigger than just providing toys and school supplies to underprivileged children--they are providing renewed hope, an introduction to faith, and an offering of love to kids and families who are missing all of those."

“This COVID-19 season has been difficult for many people all around the world,” said Brenton Dunn (CSEE ‘22), Key Club President and NHS Vice President. “I hope that with these boxes, we can give those who are less fortunate some joy and peace of mind. The results shattered my expectations in the best way possible. I learned that when Bosco students put their mind and heart into it, they can definitely get the job done and help a lot of people!”

Rൾൽ Cඋඈඌඌ Cඅඎൻ Dඋංඏൾ Hൾඅඉඌ Hඈආൾඅൾඌඌ Vൾඍඌ Bosco Tech's Red Cross Club is kicking off a survival and hygiene item drive to help homeless veterans. The student-led club invites students, especially those in Bosco Tech service clubs including the Key Club, National Honor Society and Sociedad Honoraria Hispanica, to join in this important project.

Veterans currently make up a large percentage of the U.S. homeless population. About 1.4 million additional veterans are considered at risk of homelessness due to poverty, lack of support networks, and dismal living conditions in overcrowded or substandard housing.

"We felt that participating in this veterans drive would be a great way to honor our veterans and improve their quality of life," said Tech sophomore Amir Ben Ammar (MAT ‘23), co-president of the campus’ Red Cross Club.

The drive runs from Thursday, Nov. 12, through Thursday, Dec. 10. Students earn one hour of service for every four items they donate. An extra hour can be earned for driving items to Bosco Tech or to the Arcadia Red Cross Chapter on December 11 between the hours of 2:30 and 5:30 pm. The Arcadia Chapter is located at 376 W Huntington Dr, Arcadia, CA 91007. If you are dropping off items at Bosco Tech, make sure to fill in the sign-in sheet at the front desk. The list of items needed is posted in the clubs Google Classroom.
