ALUMNUS & PAST INTERN IS MENTOR BOEING ENGINEER PAYING IT FORWARD

Tech alumnus Daniel Martinez (CSEE ‘17), completed a Boeing summer internship in 2016, prior to his senior year. Now, Daniel, who is a satellite production engineer at The Boeing Company, has volunteered as a mentor to this year’s class of interns. After graduating from the Tech in 2017, Daniel attended Cal Poly, Pomona, where he earned a bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering and a master’s degree in Engineering Management. Prior to joining Boeing full time, Daniel worked in engineer manufacturing at Northrop Grumman. We recently asked him a few questions about himself, his career and the value of professional internships. What is something positive from your Bosco Tech days that will Daniel proudly supported the Space based stay with you? Infrared Geosynchronous Earth Orbit (SBIRSAll the advice, knowledge, and exposure that was gained through GEO) 6 Launch from Cape Canaveral, FL. the various unique events, classes, assemblies, and presentations. I don’t think one specific thing stayed with me, rather the experience and collection of events have stayed with me. What extracurriculars, clubs, activities were you involved in at the Tech? I was involved in the Ambassadors program, JV basketball and varsity soccer. How did you know which area of engineering you wanted to pursue? I was fascinated with electronics while growing up. I would use technology often such as computers, phones, video games, and radios. How valuable was your Boeing internship, and why? The Boeing internship is the reason I am working for them today. The internship program was a unique experience that one could not even think of a value that it was worth. I learned more about my career, life decisions, and education than any course I took in college. What was something valuable you took from the internship experience? Career, engineering position qualifications/requirements, formal communication, presentation, day-to-day activities, understanding the levels of management, life decisions, school and social life balance, managing finances, education, exposure to different engineering disciplines, learning industry practices, and learning satellite and space topics.
