“Stilettos on Steel provides membership and networking services to female motorcycle riders all across the United States with over 1,000 members in 11 states” Greetings Lady Riders! Did you know that 25% of motorcycle riders are women? Yup, that’s one out of every four. Feeling the wind in your face is so much better when you’re holding onto the handlebars. Are you ready to make the move from the back seat to the front? My name is Wendy LaForce. I am the Sun Coast District Coordinator for Stilettos on Steel Female Riders Group. I started a chapter in May 2016. We have grown to over 100 members! We ride unapologetically deep! We empower one another’s uniqueness, strength, and peace of mind. We accept every female motorcyclist for who she is. We don’t judge but encourage each step in your journey. We are breaking through barriers and stereotypes one set of handlebars at a time. Stilettos on Steel provides membership and networking services to female motorcycle riders all across the United States with over 1,000 members in 11 states. Our driving desire is to help women who dream of riding to take the next step in becoming a motorcycle rider. Our more experienced members enjoy working with new riders to help them hone the skills learned in their riding class and prepare them for adventures on the open road with their new Stiletto Sisters. We have 5 chapters in the Tampa Bay area. Yes, we are near you, in 8 counties! BTR 16 | BORNTORIDE.COM

The number of women riders is growing faster now than ever before. I am committed to helping women break free from the passenger seat and to helping them overcome their fears of riding a motorcycle. This new position will give me the opportunity to reach out to even more people in our biker community. Not only women but to men as well. We can all empower each other. We can help each other remember the reasons why we began riding in the first place. Look out for my custom Fatboy Lo Cruella De Vil and me! We’ll be out and about looking for you! information on motorcycle endorsement classes. Meet and Greet with the members of Stilettos on Steel. There will be a ride over the Skyway especially geared to newbie riders and Skyway ‘virgins.’ Many new riders are extremely apprehensive when it comes to getting out in the wind on their two or three-wheel steeds. Sometimes, with encouragement and support from others that love to ride, a joyous occasion is celebrated when the once shy and timid rider feels a brand-new, unbridled freedom with new riding friends! What a way to do just that with a Skyway Ride! PINELLAS COUNTY 2ND ANNUAL INTERNATIONAL FEMALE RIDE DAY WITH STILETTOS ON STEEL, SATURDAY MAY 4TH, 2019 Sponsored by Born To Ride and Bert’s Barracuda Harley-Davidson International Female Ride Day© a global movement and ride day for women motorcyclists. By participating and riding on this one synchronized, united ride-day, women demonstrate their passion, devotion, and enthusiasm for the sport. Last year, for our first annual, we had 60 bikes. Our goal IFRD 2019 is 500 bikes! Each and every woman participant is a role model for women in motorcycling and contributes to the global mission of IFRD by building awareness of female motorcyclists; growing the number of women riders and encouraging more women to take up the sport and ride. Mark your calendars! Tell your friends! We’ll see you there! endeavors. Ron’s greatest passion was finding entertainment for the event. He recruited headliners like Confederate Railroad and Bobby Friss, who became a stable at the Bikefest throughout the years. Ron also sought local bands like Randy McNeely and Ben Myer that were full of talent and deserved the opportunity to perform for an audience. The Bikefest in its early days was 6 days of bikes, music, and sideshow talent unequaled at any motorcycle event. With the added bonus of it being completely free, word quickly spread, and the event gained notoriety every year.
Trying to determine the exact point where Mr. Bikefest was created is tricky. Ron was always an entertainer; he created a fun and welcoming atmosphere everywhere he went. His personality combined with a passion for conquering new challenges means he was always getting into something. The defining moments leading to Mr. Bikefest started in 2001. My dad and I had just finished the 1941 flathead and decided to debut that beauty at Daytona. With no preparation and little knowledge about that famous beach town, it was by chance that I entered and won the Daddy Rat ride in bike show. Best thing I ever did. Ron was so proud to show off that bike and tell our story. He couldn’t wait to take it to the next show or park it at River’s Edge and talk to anyone that was fascinated by our bike. Simultaneously, the Showmen’s club had come alive with motorcycle enthusiasts. Our members had brainstormed a single-day event staged at the Showmen’s club with a fundraising poker run. Enter Mr. Bikefest, his new enthusiasm for motorcycles, involvement of family and friends, and the challenge of creating an entirely new entertainment event had Ron excitedly jumping in with both feet. As a past president and active member of the Showman’s club, Ron had member support and started making preparations for an event we all know today as Gibtown Bikefest. Ron’s vision for Gibtown Bikefest was more than just an event for motorcycle enthusiasts. He wanted to create a safe event that was fun for the entire family, showed off the talents and abilities of his showmen community, and provided non-stop entertainment. To do this he allowed camping at the Bikefest to make sure riders didn’t need to drive after drinking; created activities for children like face painting, and had fellow showman members perform during the event, cook delicious carnival eats, and showcase our philanthropic
For 11 years Ron dedicated time, money, and passion for creating the most entertaining bike event in the world. Families and friends could come and dance to classic rock, listen to steel drums, witness death-defying stunts, drink a cold beer by the water, eat a variety of home cooked and carnival foods, and camp within walking distance to it all. This is how I am certain my dad lives on. He is a part of the joy that is in the memories of anyone who has attended Gibtown Bikefest.

Women’s World REFLECTIONS & RESOLUTIONS
It is a brand new year full of exciting adventures and endless possibilities. Consider all that you had dreamt of and let go of. Consider how your life could be different had you made different choices in life. Now celebrate that you are here and alive, able to read this article because that means you can change things and live your life in extraordinary ways, starting today. It is not too late to reinvent yourself. If you are here on earth and breathing, you can start to reinvent your life beginning with your mind and attitude. If you choose to look at things in a doom and gloom manner then that is the bubble you will live in. Instead, bust that dark bubble and blow a new rainbow colored one that is big, bright, and beautiful. This past year, I had the opportunity to have met a wonderful soul who was an inspiration to many and lived life in his very own wonderful and unique way. He knew how to live in the rainbow color balloon in more ways then one. In the October 2015 issue, I wrote an article about him, his name was “CRZ-T” (Crazy T). He was a gentleman with a great personality and attitude towards life. As I sat to write this New Year’s Resolution article, I was saddened by the news that CRZ-T had passed away December 19, 2015. God bless him. May he rest in peace and rock his world in heaven. CRZ-T knew how to live. He was a man who stood out and sadly many people did not get to know him better, due to their own ignorance. When you see someone different than you don’t run and don’t judge. Instead, see it as your perfect opportunity to learn and grow. Don’t let these opportunities pass you by. I approached CRZ-T and got to know him better. He was smart, incredibly funny, and had an attitude we should all have. We were waiting for our doctors in our cancer treatment journey when we met. We talked and joked knowing this is the journey of life. Can’t dwell on things, instead we have to live and go with the flow so to speak. We are not what happens to us, we are not our past and we surely are not our disease; therefore, look at the present and the future. CRZ-T knew how to be himself regardless of
what others thought, and he knew how to live in the now. I will surely miss not seeing him at my doctor visits. I feel blessed to have had the opportunity to meet him. I encourage everyone to learn to live life the EQ LifeStyle way and not wait any longer. Live free of all the useless nonsense. Clean out all the clutter and uselessness in your life to give room for you and your new exceptional life. So what will you do this year, starting today, with your one and only life? The year 2016 is your brand new year, make it extraordinary. Try brand new things you have never dared to do. So long as you are not hurting anyone don’t fear, don’t doubt yourself, and definitely don’t worry what other people say or think. All you motorcycle enthusiast how about that one dream ride that you have heard so much about? How about doing that ride and experiencing it first hand? Pick a place and go enjoy yourself. In 2015, I rode the Tail of the Dragon in North Carolina. I put all of my 1001 excuses aside and just picked up and went with a group of friends. We tend to keep waiting and postponing things until such future events happen and that is a great way to NOT experience life. The experience on those mountain roads was indescribably spectacular and it is embedded in my memory for a lifetime. I also rode the 7-mile Bridge to Key West, with breathtaking views like no other. How about riding in Palm Beach along A1A? It is a picturesque journey just like right out of a movie or magazine. You can feel the ocean breeze, the sun, and the ocean aroma. Once you taste the world outside of your comfort zone you won’t ever want to go back. Life becomes more and more delicious every step of the way. I invite you to come check out our upcoming events (Born To Ride Women’s World: An EQ LifeStyle) at www.EQWS.org and/ or www.borntoride.com. Join our mailing list so you don’t miss out. I’m looking forward to meeting you and making this journey called life tremble with love, joy, purpose and passion!

January is “Human Trafficking Awareness Month.” Meet Sally. Sally is a survivor of human trafficking. Yep! As an avid biker, she is one of us. An icon representing courage in the communities and people she touches. She is also a seasoned professional model who you probably have seen in bikerrelated media before. Sally is a true warrior. Her story and what she went through is gut-wrenching. I am privileged to be her friend. Sally is the mother to six children and a grandmother of two. She is currently Co-Director of “Fighting Against Trafficking Organization.” Sally also strongly focuses on her practice as a consultant championing the cause of victims’ rights of sexual crimes, domestic abuse, and violence against women and children. Sally recently won a supreme court case in South Dakota, making it case law across the country, thus giving victims of abuse who are able to prove they have long suffered and currently still suffer from their abuse, the ability to take their perpetrator to civil court for a jury trial and pursue punitive damages. If you voted in the last election, one of the issues to vote on your ballot was a direct result of Sally’s hard work on behalf of victims nationwide. Sally’s expertise has been utilized by legislators throughout the Midwest to help pass new and tougher sex trafficking legislation. She is a sought-after speaker and has successfully contributed to organizations such as; Creighton University’s Human Trafficking Initiative, Women’s Fund, NHTTF Thriver Committee, National Survivor Network, and the Polaris Project. So, what does that have to do with us all? Well, the Sturgis Motorcycle Rally organizers, as well as the city of Sturgis, think it has very much to do with bikers. So much so they decided to team up with Sally’s organization and conduct a charity ride called “FAST Ride” which stands for “Fight Against Sex Trafficking.” In their Memorandum of Understanding the organizer’s state; “We recognize that trafficking doesn’t happen because of events like Sturgis. It happens because demand exists wherever there are large gatherings of people, and traffickers are more than willing to leverage any event to exploit vulnerable individuals for financial gain. But we also recognize that the biker community, in general, is filled with good, compassionate men and women who could be inspired and engaged in combatting this evil; and this is the opportunity we hope to capitalize on with the Sturgis F.A.S.T. Ride 2019.” FAST Ride Sturgis event will consist of a one-day charity ride. The event will provide the opportunity for Fighting Against Trafficking to have a platform to be heard on the issues of Human Trafficking. It will also allow the EPIK Project to enroll more men into the
movement and for the City of Sturgis to proactively participate in the solution as well. The City of Sturgis, EPIK and Ride My Road will combine efforts to host the actual charity ride with the goal of 150-200 riders participating and purchasing ride tickets. Proceeds from the ride will go to the EPIK Project. FAST Ride Sturgis, Ride My Road and EPIK will also partner in creating a custom “Survivor Bike.” A bike has been donated for the purposes of creating a one-off custom build. Proceeds from the bike raffle will go to local organization Fighting Against Trafficking. The city of Sturgis has generously offered to help promote and market the Sturgis FAST Ride within the biker community and within the various networks connected with the rally. Sturgis will also lend logistical and tactical support to event partners with the possibility of a press conference. Fighting Against Trafficking is a SD-based nonprofit organization led by survivor-leader Sally Richardson and Senator Lynne HixDiSanto. Proceeds from this event will benefit the development of services for victims of sex trafficking. The EPIK Project is a Pacific NW-based nonprofit with work across 11 cities nationally. EPIK focuses on engaging male allies in the effort to combat the demand that drives sexual exploitation. Ride My Road in partnership with The EPIK Project, is a producer of the FAST ride. Ride My Road is committed to bringing awareness to the fight against human trafficking among the biker community. Through fundraising and public speaking Ride, My Road supports survivor-led organizations and celebrates survivors through photography and media. So my question now is; “When is Daytona Bike Week going to join the fight?” There are multiple well-intentioned organizations fighting against human trafficking in the nation. All effective in their own merit to various degrees. Sally so far has championed the cause because of her own testimony. The fact she is a biker makes her a good ambassador for the cause among us all. Sally is scheduled to visit Florida in January/February 2019. We should all look forward to seeing her.

Spyke & Mike
What’s up my BTR friends. Mike and I made it through another Christmas. It was a pleasant holiday, but he’s still a little bruised up from the beating he took from a couple of part-time Santa’s offended by his ‘Santa is a woman’ story last month. … Mike tells me this New Year symbolizes a unique chapter in the book of his life. It offers him the greatest opportunity to bring about a change in his undesired traits and behaviors. Also, to accomplish a personal goal: improve his inner harmony, so he says. In past years, he set many resolutions and had almost all of them fail. Like most of us, his intentions and ideas are usually in his best interest. But it’s his follow-up or lack of that ends up biting him in the ass. “Yes Spyke,” Mike cuts in, “You hit the nail on the head again. So this year I’m starting with a new winning streak. I’m going right down the middle, aiming to maintain mediocrity. Unlike last year, I’m not going to let you get a hold of my list and chew it up. I need it for reference.” I cackle, ‘Is your photographic memory broken? Do you have a bad case of CRS (Can’t Remember S**t)? Well, I couldn’t take seeing a grown man cry. That’s what happened last year when you failed everything by Jan 5th. So, what’s on your mind besides mediocrity?’ I roll my eyes as Mike pulls out another list. He backs away BTR 60 | BORNTORIDE.COM
New Jeans in 2019! from me and starts reading. “My therapist said to improve on what I’m good at. I looked in the mirror and told myself the same thing. Looks like I’ll be good at nothing. So I’m not going to set my resolutions too high. I’m only going to go for 240p. To me, it feels like a low-quality year. As a lifelong student at the School of Hard Knocks, this is one thing I have to accept year-in and yearout. I’ve read so many horrible things about drinking and eating recently that I made a resolution of no more reading. And I am really trying not to cling to all my mistakes just because I spent a lot of time making them. Every year I say I’m going to grow up. Instead this year I’ll let my hair grow out again, that seems to be easier. I think I’m going to be more like a cat and give zero crap about anything in 2019. From what I can tell, it’s working out pretty good for them. Seems to me when I put in my two cents worth about something, it always costs me a few hundred dollars, sometimes even a trip to the emergency room, and I’m done with that.” I squawk, ‘Yeah, they know you on a first-name basis and have your admission forms pre-printed. Also, those bumps and bruises take longer to heal when you get older. I think you should just stick to blinding a handful of people with your brilliance before baffling everyone with your bullshit. So, being the wise ole bird in your life, pull up a chair and listen to my advice. Letting go of some things doesn’t mean giving up, but rather accepting that there are things that cannot be. Nobody can go back and start a new beginning, but anyone can start today and make a new ending. You are whoever you want to be. You just have to decide to be and follow through. You need to smile and laugh more, forgive and forget, chase rainbows, and give hugs along the way.’ ‘I learned these last ones from your mom. It doesn’t matter who you are, it’s when you can make people smile is what makes your heart feel good. It doesn’t matter what you have, it’s about what you can share with others. And last but not least, it doesn’t matter what you love, just love it unconditionally.’ ‘Mike, over the years I’ve seen you rise and I’ve seen you fall. I’ve seen you spit blood and lose teeth. I’ve seen you give the shirt off your back to somebody you’ll never meet again. I’ve watched you put your life on the line for someone that means nothing to you knowing that doing the right thing was the right thing to do. I’ve seen you in love and be burned by it only to turn around and love again. And I’ve watched you wear those holey freaking patched up jeans for 30 years and hopefully soon you will buy a new pair and retire them.’ Mike wipes a tear from his eye and babbles, “Awww thanks Spyke! You really know how to put the love in ‘I love you.’ Now that you mention it, I could use a sponsor to spend money on me. If anyone’s needing a charity case, I’m available!” I cackle, ‘Dude, you’d get money quicker standing in front of the mall sporting them, ringing a bell with a sign on a bucket saying, your daughter might be bringing me home while I’m wearing these pants! I think it’s time for some wind therapy. Close your brain and open the garage door. You need to get my wings in the wind, your knees in the breeze, and the Fat Bird 2 wheels rolling down the road.’ SPYKE

Two great flea markets, and a lot of scenic back roads between them. My ride in this months issue starts at the famous Websters Flea Market (Swapo-Rama), and ends at the popular Howards Flea Market. The ride takes a little detour down some very cool back roads. Roads like E Trails End Rd, Withlapopka Dr, and E Gobbler Dr are all popular back roads with bikers heading up towards Sleepy Hollow. You will find lots of twists and
turns, some canopy, and fun roads to ride on two wheels. I have several scenic riding guides for motorcycles, and I try to incorporate biker friendly establishments in most of them. These two flea markets are great destinations for motorcycles, and are located in an area of Florida with some of the best riding back roads. roads in Florida, check out one of my scenic riding guides at www.finzfinds. com. It’s always a good time to travel down some of the little known back roads that are in my scenic riding guide books. Some of those obscure roads are outstanding, discover the best of them! We don’t have mountains in Florida (with the exception of Sugarloaf Mountain at 305ft elevation), but we are riding in the winter time, and all year long. The best roads hide - I find them! AN AMAZING YEAR-IN-REVIEW
As I’m writing this, I’m reflecting on what an astounding year 2018 was, both in motorcycling and in my own life. The memories, experiences, and stories come rushing back into my mind, and I’m grateful for each one. The MIC report that showed women riders in America is up to 19% is fantastic news, decades in the making. The “Give A Shift” initiative, among others, to encourage more people to take up motorcycling is showing signs of having a positive effect. The legendary Royal Enfield Motorcycle Company has entered the American market, and all of the major brands are stepping up their game to reach new and young riders with approachable, affordable bikes. In racing, MotoAmerica, American Flat Track, and all the AMA “Cross” divisions had banner years. It has been a great year in motorcycling, with better days ahead. In my own life, 2018 was most memorable. I interviewed NHRA motorcycle drag racer Ricky Patterson, met skateboarding icon Tony Hawk, spent much time with AMA and MotoGP racing legend Wayne Rainey, and enjoyed getting to know so many of you,
our readers, via the Great American Motorcycle Show, the Great American Biker Bash, and The Ride to Remember, to name a few. I’ve said it many times, and still believe it’s true- the best part of riding is the people you share it with. I traversed the continent this year, beginning with an epic adventure back in March, riding the entire length of the Baja Peninsula, courtesy of Born To Ride and MotoQuest. It was the journey of a lifetime. I relished the privilege of covering several MotoAmerica race rounds for the magazine, from Road Atlanta, to Road America in Wisconsin, wrapping up at Barber Motorsports Park in Birmingham with the crowning of the 2018 champions. I toured the incredible Harley-Davidson in Milwaukee. I capped off the year by taking Ken Anderson’s ProRider Atlanta course, the most challenging and rewarding rider safety class I’ve ever experienced. Oh, and I bought a new motorcycle this year, my beloved
Bonney- a Triumph Street Cup. With it, I’ve come full circle, riding what my father rode in his younger years, and what I learned to street ride on as a kid back in the late 70s, a Bonneville. Sadly, 2018 was also the year my dad and mom had to give up riding, but we all treasure the memories, the miles, and the years we rode together. What a year. I’m looking forward to 2019, in the motorcycle industry and in my own life. There will be new roads, new rides, new opportunities, and new friends. So keep reading, keep riding, keep in touch with us, and we hope to see you out on the road somewhere. Ride safe, ride much, ride life, in 2019. If you have a story you would like to share with Born To Ride, Call: 888-795-5779
