Born To Ride #252 - May 2025

Page 1

You are riding along in the left lane of a one-way street, with a car ahead of you on your right. As the two of you enter an intersection, the car swerves left across your path to make a turn.

Strategy: Because traffic was light, the driver may have forgotten that he was traveling on a one-way street and never looked in his blind spot for you. Since there was no traffic in the oncoming lane, he felt free to make a normal left turn (without signaling), inadvertently trapping you in his path. There was no way, short of watching for the non-existent signal, to predict that this driver was going to turn left. But remembering that intersections are always situations of increased risk, you might have prepared for this by taking actions to separate yourself from the other vehicle. By riding so close (and inside the driver’s blind spot) you effectively hid yourself from the driver’s vision and greatly increased your exposure to danger.

THE MEANING OF MEMORIAL DAY

NEVER FORGET OUR VETERANS WHO SERVE

I have approached this subject several times over the years, Memorial Day is not the official start of summer, nor should it be the reason for a 3-day long weekend of parties, barbecues, or car sales.

Memorial Day has had several names over the 150 years of its existence; however, the reason for Memorial Day stays the same. The day is for honoring and showing respect for those who have been killed while serving in the military, beginning with the Civil War through current military engagements.

Over the years Memorial Day has diminished as a national holiday and has become the unofficial start of summer and

big box store specials. Why has it gotten to that point?

Simply stated, people don’t seem to care as much as they have in the past. With only 10% of the American population having served in the military, the other 90% seems to have forgotten what the actual cost of freedom is, those who have given their lives.

Cemeteries will have small American Flags placed on the final resting places of our warriors and American Flags should be flown at half staff from dawn until noon at which time they will be brought back to full staff (or to the top of the pole). To properly bring the Flag to the half staff position the flag

should be raised to the upper most position on the staff and then lowered to the half way position.

Now you should have some idea as to what Memorial Day represents and what respect and dignity the day should be shown.

Please say a special prayer for those who we have lost over the years. God Bless America and those who serve in uniform. It’s not about the war; it’s about those who serve to protect us.

-Terri Longpree

Remember and Honor our Veterans and Never Forget the meaning of Memorial Day.

I hope everyone out there is enjoying this spectacular riding weather. What great mental therapy it is! For me I’d rather ride and think about business than sit in a conference room and think about riding. Having served over 12,000 clients in 13 states in the past 20 years I’ve finally realized what can help my clients most. Sure, I can make them millionaires but so what! What really matters I’ve come to realize is helping them design an estate plan with a will and living trust the easiest most cost-effective way. It’s a bucket list thing everyone puts off but will gain a benefit from. So, I say, “Do something today that your future self will thank you for.” I have compiled some real stories on why you should take action and get yourself set up correctly using motorcycle situations. I hope you enjoy them on these few pages.

A Biker Helping Bikers

LET’S AVOID EVER HAVING TO SAY “I WISH I KNEW BACK THEN WHAT I KNOW NOW”

Our system is not in place …

The Inherited Iron that almost went to the wrong person.

When Raven Holloway’s father died, she didn’t expect to inherit much more than a pile of dusty old books and maybe a few rusty tools. Her father, Vincent, was known around town as the local mechanic with a dark, brooding presence—always dressed in black leather, always working on some project bike in his cluttered garage. What she didn’t expect was the legal nightmare that followed his passing. A week after the funeral, Raven was called to the lawyer’s once, where she learned that her father’s prized possession—his custom-built, jet-black Harley-Davidson—wasn’t as straightforward as she thought. Though Vincent had told her stories of how he built it from the ground up, no will was ever filed. Instead, the bike became entangled in probate, with other distant relatives suddenly laying claim to it.

One of them was her cousin, Derek—slick, greedy, and never close to her father. He claimed that he had “helped build the bike” and therefore deserved a share of its value. Another was Uncle Martin, Vincent’s estranged brother, who argued that as the oldest living relative, he should inherit everything. The lawyer, Mr. Harlow, laid out the situation. Without a clear will or proof of

ownership, the motorcycle would be evaluated as part of the estate and sold to cover debts—unless someone could prove rightful ownership. Frustrated, Raven went back to the garage, searching for anything that might help.

That’s when she found it—a small, locked toolbox with the initials V.H. engraved on top. Inside were faded receipts, including one from twenty years ago: Custom Frame - Purchased by Vincent Holloway. Another receipt showed Engine Parts - Ordered by V. Holloway. At the bottom of the box was an old photograph of her as a little girl, sitting on the Harley’s unfinished frame, her father grinning beside her.

On the back, written in his scruffy handwriting, was:

“Built for my girl—Raven’s Ride.”

Armed with the evidence, Raven returned to the lawyer. The receipts and photo, combined with testimonies from Vincent’s longtime friends, were enough to prove that the bike was always intended to be hers. Derek and Uncle Martin fought it but eventually, the probate judge ruled in her favor.

When the decision came down, Raven rode her father’s Harley through town, the wind whipping through her black hair, leather jacket tight around her shoulders. The bike wasn’t just an inheritance—it was a legacy, a reminder of the bond they shared, and a testament to the miles Vincent had traveled just to leave her something worth fighting for.

Our system is not in place …

The Harley in Probate

When old Tom Callahan passed away, his beloved 1972 Harley-Davidson sat untouched

in the garage, its chrome dull and its engine silent. His daughter, Emily, couldn’t bear to look at it—knowing it was the last piece of him left. A week after the funeral, a letter arrived from the lawyer: “No will found. All assets, including the motorcycle, must go through probate.” Emily’s heart sank. Without a will, Tom’s estranged brother, Gary, stepped in—claiming the Harley should be sold to cover debts. Desperate, Emily searched through her dad’s cluttered workbench, hoping to find something that proved it was meant for her. Finally, tucked inside an old leather saddlebag, she found a crumpled, grease-stained note:

“For Em—your ride when I’m gone. Love, Dad.”

In court, Emily showed the note—barely legible but undeniably his handwriting. With tears in her eyes, she spoke about their Sunday rides and how her dad always said the bike would be hers. The judge, moved by her words and the note, ruled in her favor. That evening, Emily took the Harley out, the engine roaring to life. As the wind whipped through her hair, she felt her dad’s presence—riding with her one last time.

How our system passed along a Harley probate free …

The Last Ride

Ben Carter never thought his father would leave him anything—let alone a motorcycle. Growing up, his dad was always on the road, chasing the horizon on his beloved 1969 Harley-Davidson, while Ben and his mom struggled to make ends meet back home. When the old man finally passed, Ben wasn’t sure how to feel—until the lawyer handed him a faded envelope with his name on it. Inside was a single key and a handwritten note:

”Son,

I know I wasn’t around much, but this bike was my freedom—my escape. It’s yours now. Take one last ride for me. There’s something I left for you out at Blackwood Point. You’ll know where to look.”

Confused and a little angry, Ben drove out to his dad’s old cabin. There it was—rusty but beautiful, just like he remembered. After some tinkering, the Harley roared to life, its engine vibrating through his bones like a heartbeat. Riding through the open road, memories started to blur with the wind—the good ones, few and far between, but strong enough to remind him that his dad wasn’t just a wanderer—he was searching for something. When Ben reached Blackwood Point, he saw a small metal box buried under a pile of stones. Inside was a leatherbound journal filled with his dad’s thoughts, regrets, and dreams—things he never shared with anyone. Tucked in the back was an old photograph of them at a fair, with the words scribbled on the back:

”I never stopped loving you. I just didn’t know how to stay.”

Ben sat on the edge of the cliff, the motorcycle cooling beside him, and realized that sometimes, forgiveness is found on the open road—where the past follows but doesn’t have to catch up.

Our system is not

in place …

TOD created a costly legal headache

Jake Peterson was a motorcycle enthusiast with a collection of vintage bikes that he cherished more than anything. As he grew older, he wanted to make sure his prized possessions would go directly to his son, Lucas, without any hassle. To avoid probate, Jake added a Transfer on Death (TOD) designation to each motorcycle title, naming Lucas as the beneficiary. Unfortunately,

when Jake passed away unexpectedly, Lucas assumed the motorcycles would smoothly transfer to him. However, when he went to the DMV to change the titles, he discovered a problem. The clerk explained that the TOD designation was incomplete— Jake had never properly signed or filed the paperwork for two of his most valuable bikes.

To make matters worse, another complication arose. One of Jake’s ex-wives, Sarah, claimed that Jake had verbally promised her one of the motorcycles during their divorce settlement. Although it wasn’t written in the divorce decree, Sarah argued that the bike rightfully belonged to her. Now, Lucas found himself in probate court, battling not only to claim the motorcycles that didn’t have valid TOD designations but also to defend his right to the bike his father supposedly promised to Sarah. The judge had to sort through the conflicting claims and incomplete paperwork before deciding who would inherit the motorcycles. In the end, the judge ruled that the motorcycles without proper TOD paperwork had to go through probate, and Sarah’s claim was dismissed due to lack of evidence. Lucas finally gained ownership of his father’s collection, but not without months of legal headaches and unexpected fees.

You don’t need more money you just need a better plan. After having the privilege to serve tens of thousands of people over the years I can attest to the statement “That money won’t make you happy! But riding a motorcycle will! “

ARE PEOPLE BECOMING LESS COMPASSIONATE?

UNDERSTANDING THE SHIFT IN HUMAN CONNECTION

It’s a question that echoes through conversations in coffee shops, online forums, and quiet reflections: Are people becoming less kind, less patient, less connected? If you’ve found yourself wondering this lately, you’re definitely not alone. Many are sensing a shift in how we relate to one another—and while there’s no single explanation, several key factors are likely contributing to this change.

1. The Impact of Social Media and Technology

Technology has revolutionized how we connect, but not always for the better. Social media platforms, while offering convenience and global reach, often promote curated versions of reality. When people are constantly exposed to idealized images of others’ lives, it can foster feelings of inadequacy, jealousy, or even resentment. In this environment, interactions can become more performative than authentic.

Moreover, the rapid pace of content consumption—scrolling through videos, memes, and posts—can shorten attention spans. This makes deep, meaningful engagement more difficult. Without sustained attention, empathy—something that requires time and presence—begins to erode.

2. Economic Stress and Survival Mode

There’s also the increasing pressure of just getting by. Skyrocketing living costs, student debt, housing crises, and job insecurity have left many people stretched thin. When survival feels uncertain, compassion and patience often give way to competition and self-preservation. It’s hard to think about someone else’s struggles when you’re overwhelmed by your own.

Economic stress doesn’t just wear on individuals; it reshapes communities. As public trust in institutions and safety nets declines, so does the sense of shared responsibility.

3. Cultural Shifts Toward Individualism

Modern culture increasingly champions the pursuit of personal goals, self-care,

and “doing you.” On the surface, these messages can be liberating. They challenge outdated expectations and encourage self-empowerment. But when taken to the extreme, this emphasis on individualism can erode communal bonds.

Without the balance of community-oriented values—like mutual support, cooperation, and empathy—individualism can become isolating. The more we focus inward, the less room we leave for others.

4. Rising Polarization

Another major force at play is social and political polarization. With the help of algorithms, people are often exposed to content that aligns with their existing beliefs and biases. Over time, this creates echo chambers where opposing views aren’t just different—they’re vilified.

When disagreement feels like danger, it’s no wonder that patience and understanding give way to defensiveness and hostility. This kind of division makes empathy across differences not only difficult but sometimes seen as disloyalty.

This was never more evident than during the past elections and current administration where others views not matching our own seemed like a personal attack or insult.

5. The Mental Health Crisis

Mental health struggles are at unprecedented levels. Anxiety, depression, burnout, and loneliness are widespread, and they affect how we show up in our relationships. When people are hurting—emotionally, mentally, or physically—their capacity to be kind, present, or understanding naturally diminishes. Unfortunately, stigma and lack of access to care often mean these issues go unaddressed, compounding the emotional distance between people. That coupled with the belief that seeking help is a sign of weakness doesn’t help the situation either.

Are Things Getting Worse, or Are We Just More Aware?

While it’s easy to feel like things are spiraling, it’s also worth considering another perspective: perhaps we’re just seeing more of what’s always been there. News cycles and social platforms tend to amplify conflict and negativity, making the world seem harsher than it might actually be. After all drama and conflict sell.

So, is compassion really disappearing? Or is it that our lens has changed—zoomed in by constant exposure, distorted by digital filters, and burdened by unrelenting stress?

It’s a deeply personal question, too. Where have you noticed this shift—in your workplace, in friendships, online communities? And more importantly, what small steps can we take to push back against the tide and re-center human connection?

Change starts not in sweeping movements, but in the everyday acts of empathy we choose, even when it’s hard. Try to consider what others are going through. After-all we don’t know what’s going on in other people’s lives that triggers their behavior.

Hate to say this but even with all the things mentioned here in this article that may be reasoning behind this one thing is not mentioned. That one thing is this. Some people are just assholes. Plain and simple. What do you think?

Be safe out there and watch your back. Simple to remember everyone , rich poor etc has one thing in common. We all have an asshole behind us.

TIL next time.

Pets are not just animals they are gifts to us that bring love and joy to our lives.

MAY I SEND YOU A MESSAGE?

With all the recent activity in my life, it becomes unusually difficult for me to enjoy just hanging out or being my usual rotten self. I have been constantly reminded of my degenerate lifestyle and lack of reasonable income, plus the fact that no matter what I do, some kind of crap comes up that prevents my happiness and success. Well, not really. I mean, it could be worse - much worse.

Here’s an example: I had to go to the office today to do some business and when I left there, RT60 was in total Eastbound chaos. There was some sort of serious accident involving a motorcycle which spread small pieces of debris and parts all the way across the 3 eastbound lanes. If I had arrived an hour later, I wouldn’t have been able to make the turnaround to the BTR office. Evidently, this was fairly serious and every type of police and emergency vehicle were present on the scene. Every month I remind all of you, my dedicated readers, to look out for and respect the motorcycle riders that are out there using our nation’s highways. I suspect that most of you actually have and ride a motorcycle, but this message goes out to the general public: Watch out for and respect motorcyclists and remember to share the road! Correctly. … And we all said please and Amen. (No, I’m not really a preacher)

Originally, I was going to write the majority of this story about Lynne’s hair. You see, Eddie and Lynne are Co-Hosts on Born To Ride radio on Tuesday night. We have a lot of fun doing it and it provides a ton of valuable information to those of us who ride. But Lynne’s hair is so large it allegedly has its own zip code and area

code. On Born To Ride radio it simply has its own cameras and it’s a topic of discussion on most of the shows but not the most important of topics. I love doing Talk-Radio, and I know that Lynne and Eddie do also, but we are trying to do something good for our local community and worldwide.

I can’t seem to avoid the “Talk-Radio” circuit because I have a really cool radio on the bagger, and infrequently the radio in my old pickup still works. I used to listen to the CD player on the bagger or try to find the ‘one out of many’ stations that didn’t play the same worn out seven songs between commercials. Good radio is hard to find nowadays – especially when you want to rock out or enjoy some progressive country music that doesn’t make ya want to cry in your beer. Anyhow, following talk-radio has brought me to the same plateau that watching television does. Maybe I shouldn’t say plateau, I should say cliff. Yeah you know, the one you wanna jump off when you’ve had enough BS in your life from the regulated media. And this revelation that I was given by listening to regular radio be it talk, music, or a combination of both brought me back to my abnormal reality.

So with all the aforementioned conflicting and sometimes useless information that I am supplying you, I decided to get back in the Internet broadcasting business, largely due to the fact that I had extra room in my new location and moreover my personal desire to try to make things better for the general public and bikers, whether that constituent is listening or not. Honestly, I hate to just talk about radio in general and I am continually trying to change it with the help of Born To Ride.

The truth of the matter is that wherever you go, you will still be exposed to the same ‘media’ slant that all the regulated outlets cram down your throat. Unless you live in a small town where you can actually call into a radio station and get your request played, you are pretty much stuck with what you get. … I am trying to change that.

For what it’s worth, I believe that in the very near future the Internet is where all you regular people will get all your entertainment. It’s alarming to observe the huge number of people who get all their content from their phones ... be it TV, radio, or movies the Internet has taken the forefront in the delivery of your content. For better or worse, just live with it. You are stuck with it.

Don’t forget to tune in to Born To Ride radio every Tuesday night between 8 PM and 11 PM. I thank you and so does Lynne’s hair. …

Embrace the Journey: Encouragement for Those Ready to Travel, Adventure, or Relocate

Have you ever felt the call of the open road, the longing for adventure, or the need for a fresh start in a new place? The idea of traveling, exploring, or relocating can be thrilling, but it can also be intimidating. Doubts creep in—what if things don’t go as planned? What if I don’t fit in? What if I fail? But here’s the truth: the biggest adventure of your life is waiting for you, and all it takes is one step forward.

THE CALL TO EXPLORE

Many of us feel a deep-seated need for change, whether it’s a desire to see new landscapes, experience different cultures, or build a life somewhere that truly feels like home. The good news? You’re not alone. Countless adventurers before you have set out with little more than a dream and a willingness to embrace the unknown. And guess what? They found their way—and so will you.

Life on the road or in a new place isn’t just about the destinations; it’s about personal growth. When you leave your comfort zone, you develop resilience, adaptability, and a deeper understanding of yourself and the world around you. The challenges that come with travel and relocation are not roadblocks; they are opportunities to learn, evolve, and thrive.

OVERCOMING FEAR AND DOUBT

It’s natural to have concerns about stepping into unfamiliar territory. What if you don’t find bbbbbbbbbbbbbbworries are valid, but they shouldn’t hold you back.

You learn to navigate new places, make unexpected friendships, and adapt to different lifestyles. You build confidence in your ability to handle the unknown. The more you explore, the more you realize how capable you truly are.

PRACTICAL STEPS TO BEGIN YOUR JOURNEY

Start with Research – Learn about potential destinations, cost of living, job opportunities, and cultural differences. Make a Plan, But Stay Flexible–Having a road-map helps, but be open to unexpected opportunities.

Connect with Others – Join online communities, talk to locals, and reach out to fellow travelers for advice and support. Trust Yourself – Your instincts and experiences will guide you. Growth happens when you take that leap of faith.

Take the First Step – Whether it’s booking a trip, applying for a job in a new city, or downsizing your belongings, action turns dreams into reality.

YOUR ADVENTURE STARTS NOW

No matter where you are in life, it’s never too late to embark on a new journey.

Out of all the ‘biker exploitation’ movies I have reviewed, this one may be the funniest! The 1991 film features Billy Bob Thornton, MTV VeeJay Martha Quinn, and a few other B movie celebs. This movie has it all – hot chicks, lesbians, motorcycles, midgets and a troop of blind orphans - who wouldn’t love it? First off I must tell you the Chopper Chicks don’t actually ride “Choppers” but they do ride Sportsters, all equipped with engine guards and various custom paint jobs. The girls in the film are members of an all female motorcycle gang called the “Cycle Sluts” which in itself is funny. They do have the usual trappings of women traveling in groups, such as being on the rag, and searching for meat.

Anyway, the film begins when the Cycle Sluts cruise into the small town of Zariah looking for a good time. In Zariah, an evil scientist turned mortician has been killing local townspeople with the help of dwarf that he continually abuses. After turning the folks into zombies, he uses them as labor at an abandoned mine. The mine is too radioactive after underground nuclear testing to be mined by living people. He later admits the real reason he’s doing it isn’t for the money, it’s because he’s just plain mean. The zombies are released when a curious little boy opens a door in the apparently abandoned mine, thus releasing the un-dead, and of course this

act is his un-doing. In the mean time, the girls are in town, and decide to split up and go look for some meat. One of them is run over by the mortician, and is turned into a zombie, while the others find their way into various sexual situations with the local guys. This is where we first meet Billy Bob who plays the ex of one of the chopper chicks. They meet in a church where the dwarf is attempting to shoot her, and retreat to his trailer for some fun. Another mistake for the midget, and more punishment later, the zombies are still marching on, and they are getting hungry!

On the way to town the zombies encounter a group of blind orphans, who are stranded just on the outskirts after their bus breaks down. Luckily for the kids their bus-driver always keeps an Uzi on the bus (for sentimental reasons) and while the driver seeks help the kids (shooting blindly) manage to hold off the zombies until the chopper chicks arrive to rescue them in a hearse. Even though the girls are doing some good deeds, the locals don’t seem to like them too much and repeatedly attempt to run them out of town. That is until the town is overrun by blood thirsty zombies! But wait – the town folk refuse to help the girls fight the zombies because “they are all family.’’ Hordes of zombies begin eating their relatives as the girls fight them off. The dwarf decides to turn against the mortician, and tells the girls that the only way to kill the zombies is to “cut their heads off.” The chopper chicks use baseball bats, chainsaws, and other devices to do away with many of them, but just when they think they have won, dozens more arrive. The girls devise a plan to lure all the remaining zombies into the church using raw meat as bait. They load the meat truck with dynamite, and crash it into the church. The timer on the dynamite goes off and the church goes up in flames burning up most of the remaining zombies.

In the final scenes the Cycle Sluts are rewarded with a sack full of cash and induct the dwarf and several of the blind orphans as honorary members of their gang. They then ride out of town with some of the men folk (their new ‘bitches’) on the back of their bikes and toss wads of money into the wind as they roll down the road to a new destination and adventure.

This review could not possibly expose you to all the hilarious action that this film provides. It is sometimes so ridiculous that you would find yourself rolled up in a knot from uncontrollable laughter. It takes shots at old films, TV and life in general, but it never leaves you bored. I admit that I have a sick sense of humor, but for some unknown reason, I actually liked this film! (I usually don’t) Try this one out. It’s available on DVD from Troma Films, www.troma.com or at your local ‘strange DVD dealership.’ I have to give this one 4 out of 4 stars just because it’s super-funny. … Till next month. ...

HALL OF FAMER VICKI “SPITFIRE” SANFELIPO AND TRIGGER, HER 1993 HARLEY SOFTAIL

Accident Scene Management founder, Vicki “Spitfire” Sanfelipo, was inducted into the Sturgis Motorcycle Museum Hall of Fame in August of 2020. Known as “Spitfire” by her friends, Vicki certainly lives up to that moniker. Ever since starting to ride motorcycles in the late 1980s, she’s been a bundle of energy. The single parent raised three young daughters and became a Registered Nurse at a hospital in Wausau, Wisconsin, finally settling in the surgery department.

In 1987 Vicki bought her first motorcycle and then in 1995, she joined the Governor’s Motorcycle tours as the only female Road

Captain and ride nurse. Shortly after, she attended a workshop presented by “Slider Gilmore” entitled Two Wheel Trauma. Gilmore, an EMT in Iowa, lectured on how to treat injured motorcyclists before professional help arrived.

Energized by Gilmore’s presentation, and with his blessing, Vicki authored a program she named Accident Scene Management (ASM), and along with three fellow nurses from Wausau Hospital, began teaching a “hands-on” class to riders in Wisconsin. The Wisconsin Department of Transportation learned of her efforts and supported her in presenting more classes for anyone interested.

Her devotion to education and saving lives led Vicki to leave her nursing career and devote her time as a volunteer director, educator and instructor trainer for ASM. Today, with instructors in states across the U.S. and in other countries, thousands of students have been trained in roadside assistance at motorcycle crashes.

Vicki’s every day ride is “Trigger”, her customized 1993 Harley that started life as a Fatboy. The only original parts left are the frame, transmission and rear wheel. The motor is an S&S 100ci 4x4 with a 585 cam and S&S shorty “E” carb as well as a Crane single fire ignition. Other details include Indian Larry rotors and GMA

brakes up front, a Springer front end and LED headlight, Chubby beach bars and a custom seat by Leather and Lead. The pipes are White Brother Porker upsweeps and Trigger’s Taildragger rear fender includes a Tombstone taillight and a full “real” horse tail.

The custom paint is by TS Customs and the graphic on the gas tanks says it all. Ride forever, Spitfire!

IT’S TIME TO GET YOUR SCOOT OUT OF THE GARAGE!

It’s already May my BTR friends. What April showers we had will bring May flowers and hopefully wash away a whole lot of the tree pollen. It doesn’t really bother me, but it leaves Mike sneezing his brains out and popping Benadryl like TicTac’s. He’s always running from the dust when outside, darting here and there wearing a mask like back in the days of Covid. In the spring I find him full of dust, doubt and snot while screaming I don’t have allergies!

Mike breaks in, “Spyke quit pollen my leg. I see you sneezing a lot when your perch and toys outside all have a green/yellow tint to them. I know it leaves you feeling a bit stuck in the pollen of life!”

I cackle, “I will sneeze a little but I do like the taste of it and when life gives me pollen, I make sure to enjoy the flowers. But for you and other humans pollen is nothing to sneeze at. Mike, you should seek therapy. You’re struggling with a grain of self-doubt and disbelief but with help you will soon blossom with confidence!”

Mike replies, “Well Spyke you produce quite the dander yourself. It’s a good thing that I’m not allergic to you. I’m glad that you enjoy a rainy day or being in the waterfall otherwise I’d be following you around with the vacuum and I know how much you hate that. Enough of pollination and let’s talk about population. The first thing that comes to mind is the Leesburg Bikefest.

One weekend a year this sleepy little town of about 32,000 is inundated with over 200,000 bikers for one of the largest three day events in the country. This year was no exception. The weather was great, the bands were awesome and there was no lack of vendors from which to buy motorcycle accessories, clothing, and knickknacks.

The area is well known for its back roads riding from the Ocala Forest to Wildwood

to the outskirts of Orlando. You and I really enjoy riding through the little towns and around the lakes that inundate the area seeing friends we only run into once a year.

One of our favorite haunts is Gator HarleyDavidson. With all the vendors, live music, carney food, and friends that hang out there, it’s a blast! Right across the street the Dirty South Saloon always has an upfront parking space for us. Every year the

bikini girls wash the Fat Bird 3 and you get free pineapple drinks.”

I cackle, “dude, I love that place especially since it’s a country bar. YEE-HAAW! It’s always a lot of fun during the bike fest. The place gets off the chain when Amanda puts on her pudding wrestling contest and I get to be in the photo shoot with the winner. Last year it was chocolate and what a mess that was! I really loved the bike wash because they wash the Fat Bird 3 and hose down my chocolate covered talons. It’s a real Toofer!”

Mike babbles, “That was awesome my pudding poser but I thought you totally enjoyed the Pirats Oasis in Weirsdale better. You looked like you were having way too much fun laying on the back of the metal parrot sculpture more than you did standing on the shoulder of one of the pudding wrestlers. It’s here you found one of your favorite signs for a special Kodak moment. That was a great ride and a great stop out near the Ocala Forest.

Speaking of great rides, it’s time for me to get your scoot out of the garage. Finish up the story so I can get your wings in the wind, my knees under the triple trees, and the Fat Bird 3 wheels rolling down the road.”

HONOR ON MEMORIAL DAY AND EVERYDAY

CHRISTIAN MOTORCYCLISTS ASSOCIATION

Several years ago I went on a poker run near West Palm Beach Fl. It was a fundraiser to assist veterans to receive support dogs. We were able to see and pet some of the dogs that were in training to become support working dogs. The ride was really nice with different destinations for each card in our hand. The event was able to raise money for their cause. We know that the people who receive from these charitable organizations really appreciate the efforts of each of us who participated.

The first Saturday of May each year The Christian Motorcyclists Association (CMA) celebrates its annual Fundraising work done through the year. It is a time that all the Chapters in CMA stop to celebrate what the Lord has done in our fundraising efforts. We may not sponsor poker runs but, we creatively find ways to raise funds in each of our chapters. You may see yard sales, ice cream socials, chili cook-off, candy sales and so on. We also have several different ways to donate either in person or on-line. So, where do our funds go?

We have a love for motorcycles and Christ. For us, our cause is to raise money each year for what we call “Run For the Son”(RFS). This is the CMA’s investment into world-wide evangelism. Over the past 37 years RFS has played an important role in 39 million salvations in 194 countries around the globe. Over those 37 years, CMA, through RFS, has been able to raise funds for biker evangelism in the United States and around the world. With a vision for changing the world, one heart at a time, we are reaching out to the motorcycling community around the

world with the love and life-changing power of Jesus Christ.

One of the verses in the Bible that relates to this cause is Mar 16:15-16 “And then he told them, “Go into all the world and preach the Good News to everyone. Anyone who believes and is baptized will be saved.” Another verse is Romans 10:14-15 “But how can they call on him to save them unless they believe in him? And how can they believe in him if they have never heard about him? And how can they hear about him unless someone tells them? And how will anyone go and tell them without being sent? That is why the Scriptures say, “How beautiful are the feet of messengers who bring good news!” This is good news of Jesus Christ and the true heartbeat behind CMA.

Teach’s Takeaway,

- We all are passionate about something and are willing to ride in support of it.

- A cause that touches others is important to the community.

- When Jesus is our reason, we can be messengers and bring the good news

Who would have guessed that loving to ride could help someone? Motorcyclists can be some of the most generous giving people. Be passionate and truly affect the community around you.
